"What's the matter, Cats? Can't you find anything unless you shoot straight at it?" - Mercedes Page

As the Ilea approaches Amalthea, Cats wonders why the Copernicus' computer has not corrected its orbit. Finbow thinks they may have had to hide to maximise radiation sheilding. Mercedes says that on the edge of Jupiter's radiation belts, with Io swinging past every sixteen hours spewing sulphur, is there anywhere to hide?

As Petra checks the Ilea's radiation shields, Finbow tells Cats that they are taking a bashing. The shields should keep them within allowable radiation tolerances until they reach the radiation belts. Then they will have to get in and out fast.

Chantal and Victoria discuss the problems of avoiding Io's plasma ring and the electrical flux tube, and getting to Amalthea when it's not too close to Io. Chantal says they have to go in when Io is at its least active.

Petra predicts that there will be a failure of the radiation shield in the upper quadrant of the Dome.

Brelan is in the Dome with Mercedes, explaining to her the mythic nature of Jupiter System, when Finbow calls for an evacuation. They rush to Comcen, where Brelan tells Finbow that he has panicked the entire ship. Cats says that people have a right to know the dangers, and thinks they should not go on. Brelan tells him that they have to think of the Copernicus. Mercedes suggests that they keep the rotational plane of the Dome away from Jupiter until they are sheltered by Amalthea. Cats thinks it is too risky and tells Mercedes she is being stupid and reckless.

Piers contacts Fiona in Space City. She tells him that she does not want to go to Mars, but he tells her she has no choice. Timmy tells Fiona that he is looking forward to staying with her family, although he will miss Melody. He tells her that they should start packing.

In the Stardust, Melody and Sara are waitressing, and are having difficulty in coping with the orders.

On the Ilea's brdge, Cats wants more information before going on. Finbow discovers that there is someone moving in the Dome.

In the Stardust, Sara is feeling exploited, but Melody has made 730 ecus in tips. She thinks they can do alright for themselves, but Sara is angry as she is doing all the work.

On the Ilea, Chac is still in the Dome and Finbow is concerned. Cats wants a report from the physics lab before going on.

In the physics lab, Chantal and a tired Victoria think that there is not much activity on Io at the moment, but Victoria is worried about a pressure build up. Chantal tells her that Petra will work out the probability, and then its up to Comcen to make the final decision.

Mercedes becomes exasperated at Cats' caution. An alarm goes off, and Petra announces that someone is approaching the Dome.

Piers is called to Comcen and asks who has gone in to the Dome. On the screen they see a spacesuited Finbow enter. Piers goes down to the lift, and Chantal contacts the bridge to tell them there should be no problems with Io this orbit.

Mercedes warns Finbow that he has three minutes to get out of the Dome before the radiation becomes intolerable.

Back in their room at Callisto's Transit Hostel, A weary Sara is alarmed by what she thinks is a cockroach. Timmy arrives and tells Melody that he is all packed for the journey to Mars tommorrow. They fight affectionately, annoying the other residents. She says she has the next day off and they will spend some time together. He leaves, and Melody gets upset.

Finbow has managed to save Chac from the Dome. Brelan cannot believe it. Piers says he will look Finbow over and Brelan suggests a brain scan... to check if he has one!

When Mercedes argues with Cats about the approach, he wonders who is in command. Brelan sides with Mercedes, and Cats storms off the bridge.

Piers talks to Chac in Medicom as Chantal arrives and tells him that Kitebrook has walked out of Comcen, and that Mercedes has taken over at Brelan's request. She wonders if Piers has heard from James, and wishes that he was there.

The Ilea is passing through the sulphur storms in Io's orbital plane. Brelan asks Mercedes if there have been anymore transmissions from the Copernicus. She tells him that she would rather be dead than be down there fro a month.

In Club Galileo, Cats complains about Mercedes, and about Brelan taking charge, but tells Finbow that he has to get back to the bridge as that is where the action is.

On Callisto in the Stardust, Sara sees Fiona off, and tells her that Melody is relying on her to look after Timmy. Melody and Timmy arrive, laden with farewell presents, as the last call for the shuttle to the liner is announced. Timmy thanks Melody for their day, and Fiona and Timmy leave for the shuttle departure lounge. Melody is upset, and tells Sara that she has never felt so alone. She is broke, in debt, and doesn't even have the Ilea to live on anymore.

The Ilea sails onward towards Amalthea.
