"Oh well, before we go into that, let's see what happened to the poor bastards who sailed with her, shall we?" - Cats Kitebrook

Brelan tells Cats that the Copernicus cost one billion ecus and had been in service for only two months. Cats is more concerned with the crew. He tells the Professor that he should get some sleep.

Victoria wakes up from a nightmare, worrying Anna and annoying Herlinde in the next cabin. Herlinde tells Victoria that she should see Harriet and get some counselling.

Piers examines Finbow who wants to get out of the airlock. He tells Piers that he has found a friend, Gregor, a spider who he talks to about spaceships. Piers tells him that he needs some visitors.

Mercedes warns Helinde about Alex, but Herlinde knows what she wants and reminds Mercedes that she was once interested herself. Alex joins them and Mercedes leaves. Alex tells Herlinde that Mercedes is jealous and immature.

Brelan tries to contact the Copernicus without success. Cats is not optimistic about possible survivors, and thinks that there should be a planned salvage expedition from Space City. An angry Victoria has been listening from the back of the bridge and tells them that they cannot turn back. The Professor tells her that she is in an irrational state of mind, and asks her to leave Comcen. After she leaves he tells Cats and Mercedes that he wants them to try and dock.

Finbow, having left the airlock for a breather, joins Herlinde in the common room, and asks why she hasn't visited him. She joins Alex and tells him she is sick of children. So is he. She tells him that he is the only man on the ship, and says that he should talk to her father about ging to Mars. She wants to go with him.

Harriet awkwardly talks Victoria through the stress codes, but they do no good. She tells Victoria to "buck up and snap out of it". Victoria leaves.

Finbow joins Brelan on the bridge as Cats prepares to dock the Ilea with the Copernicus. Petra believes a collision is imminent and takes evasive action, putting them back in a holding station away from any risk. A frustrated Brelan orders Finbow back to the airlock.

Anna takes Finbow's lunch to the entryport, but all she finds are cobwebs.

Herlinde complains that Alex cannot keep his eyes off Mercedes. He tells her that she has to be cool if she wants to be with him. Mercedes and Chantal watch Alex leave and Anna joins them. She tells them that the radiation is worse than they thought - Finbow has turned into a spider!

Harriet comes onto the bridge as Cats tries to dock again, but Petra tells him that no link with the Copernicus is possible. Cats decides to go across in the shuttle and cut his way in. Harriet is appalled at what he might find, and thinks that he ought to talk to Piers.

In the lift, Alex pesters Mercedes and asks her if she is hurt by Herlinde. Mercedes tells him that she is more worried for her.

Piers is concerned about the posibility of infection from bacteria that may be feeding off the bodies on the Copernicus, but Cats shrugs it off. Piers suggests that Cats is vaccinated against possible viruses that could survive the environment, but Cats tells him tht he doesn't like injections. The Professor and Piers can't believe it - the living legend scared of a needle!

In the gym, Victoria tells Chantal that nobody cares cares about the Copernicus and they all just want to go home, but Chantal argues that they are all risking their lives for the crew.

Brelan runs into Mercedes. He invites her to dinner at Annabelle's when they get back to Space City. She agrees.

Piers gives Cats his innoculations. Mercedes enters Medicom, and Cats invites her to dinner at Annabelle's when they get back to Space City. He jokingly asks her if she is going to marry the Professor, and wonders why she goes for cold-blooded ambitious types.

Harriet tells Chantal, who is worried about the morale of the students, that they need a bursar on board.

Mercedes sees Cats to the airlock. Back in Comcen, Cats reminds Mercedes of their dinner date over the comms link as he launches the shuttle. Brelan warns him to take care.
