"That won't bother Cats Kitebrook, surely? I thought the rougher it came, the better he liked it." - Charles Brelan

In the shuttle, Cats continues his approach, but is unable to raise the Copernicus. There is no docking collar, and Brelan advises that he abort. Cats ignores him and tries to dock regardless. He has trouble and fails in the attempt. The Ilea loses his signal as Brelan looks on helpless.

In the common room, Herlinde apologises to Alex about going on about Mercedes. He tells her that Mercedes means nothing to him. They kiss, surprising everyone. Alex mentions Mercedes again which upsets Herlinde. He leaves.

Brelan is concerned about Cats, as they are unable to locate or contact him. Chantal contacts the bridge from the physics lab and warns them that the volcanic activity is worse than they first thought. She doesn't know how long they will have. Finbow is called to the bridge due to a sulphur storm. He suggests that they move to a lower orbit. Mercedes wonders if Cats had made it onto the Copernicus. If not, he's in trouble.

Herlinde runs into Alex and tries to apologise, but he brushes her off. He tells her that he does not need her money. Harriet witnesses the event.

Harriet joins Jean-Francois and Chantal in the lab, who tell her that the conditions are worsening. Harriet realises that Chantal will not be giving her seminar.

Alex goes to Medicom and uses the terminal to hack into Herlinde's confidential personal record.

Brelan suggest to Finbow that he return to the airlock, but he wants to stay on the bridge to do another status check. Mercedes is concerned that Cats will be unable to make it back in a comms blackout, but is interrupted when Cats appears on the screen. He tells them that he thought they had all pushed off. He is coming in.

Harriet finishes a seminar. She asks Herlinde to stay behind to talk about Alex, and warns her that he will be leaving them in a few weeks. Herlinde tells her that she is not entangled with Alex, but it is no business of hers if she was.

Cats is met by Finbow who has been sent back to the airlock. Cats asks him back to Comcen, as he needs his help.

Alex arrives in the Dome, where Herlinde is exercising. Herlinde tells him that Harriet has warned her that he is a threat to her moral well-being. Alex thinks that she is right.

Cats tells Brelan and Mercedes that both entryports on the Coprnicus are dead, but says that the internal functions may still be operational. Finbow explains that the Cpernicus' external functions are powered by different independant systems. Cats had soft-docked, but was unable to get in. There is a possiblity, but it will take time. Chantal warns Brelan that they may have only 24 hours. Cats needs to operate the doors' subsystems. Brelan suggests that they call for the expert.

Petra calls Alex to Comcen. He dresses and leaves a happy Herlinde in the Dome.

Brelan orders Finbow back to the airlock, and he reluctantly leaves. Alex arrives and Brelan tells him that they need him to penetrate the control systems on the Copernicus. Cats tells him that they have 24 hours maximum.

Victoria goes to see Mercedes, and complains that the shuttle is back and that they have given up on the rescue. She leaves, upset. A glowing Herlinde tells Anna that she is in love with Alex.

In Comcen, Alex attempts to log into the Copernicus' systems via Petra.

Anna tells Herlinde that she is mad, as Alex is only after what he can get. Harriet arrives in the lobby and asks Anna if she has seen Victoria. Anna tells her that there is someone else who needs more help than she does.

In the lab, Chantal tells Jean-Francois that the radiation build up will soon be critical.

In the Club, Harriet tells Brelan about Herlinde and Alex. She wants him to keep Hartmann away from the students and Gantry 4. The Professor is called to the bridge, but he promises to see to Alex.

Alex is unable to break into the Copernicus' subsystems, and Brelan reluctantly agrees that they should leave. Victoria rushes onto the bridge and tells them that they cannot go. She begs Cats to do something. Cats wonders if he could manually force his way in by EVA. Chantal warns him that they have only 18 hours till the radiation becomes unbearable. He will give it a go. Victoria is relieved.
