"It's eerie isn't it, half the time you don't notice the stars but now they're not there... Finbow, if it isn't an electric storm that's somehow ejected millions of volcanic particles, what can it possibly be?" - Rosemary Greenwood

Finbow attempts to contact the Valencia, but Chantal discovers that Petra is locked solid. The scanner is completely blotted out. Eliot tells Rosie he believes it is a malfunction and goes to the Dome to see for himself. He orders Finbow to get Cats back on board.

Daniel visits Melody and asks her not to rush into marriage. Jean-Francois rushes in, saying that there is a problem with the shuttle. He notices Daniel who says that he was just checking to see if Melody was alright.

Eliot sees some kind of electric storm from the Dome and returns to Comcen and congratulates Finbow for spotting it. Cats tells him that all comms are down. Eliot tells Rosie to put the Dome out of bounds to students, and tells Chantal to liase with James to avoid panic.

Fiona finds a worried Timmy in the Club, after he has stolen a chocolate bar from the stores. He admits that he was hacking into Petra, and this time he thinks he has "knackered it for good".

Eliot informs the ship that they are out of comms with Space City, but the Ilea is undamaged. He requests that no one use the computer, and asks the shuttle passengers to be patient until things return to normal. Victoria tells James that she is worried about her father.

In her cabin, Jean-Francois asks Melody to come with him to Space City to be married. But she wants to marry him on Earth, and suggests a long engagement. Eventually they agree to wait.

Finbow and Rosie discuss the nature of the storm in the Dome. She wonders why it has stopped in Jupiter System and he tells her that it is still moving, and they are moving with it. Sara and Herlinde enter the Dome. Rosie reminds them that it is out of bounds, and that she expects them to act in a responsible manner. Sara says that they just wanted to see the 'space serpent'...

Rosie tells Eliot about the rumours of a 'space serpent'. Eliot says it is a lot of nonsense, but Cats and Rosie remind him that there have been other mysterious occurences. Cats advocates moving the ship, but Eliot still thinks that they are in a parking orbit over Space Harbour, which Finbow thinks is nonsense. He tells Rosie that with the computer down they have no instruments to tell them where they are. Cats wants to take the shuttle for a look around. Finbow and Rosie disagree, but Eliot orders Finbow to make the Centaur ready for launch.

Fiona stands guard and helps Timmy while he tries to get Petra back on-line. She tells him that if he doesn't tell someone what he has done, she will.

Mercedes visits Cats and tries to persuade him to take her with him. She says he needs a navigator, but he refuses to take her because of the possible danger.

Fiona and James are playing chess when Petra becomes partly operational again. Fiona rushes off to find Timmy.

Finbow tells Eliot that Petra must have switched herself off when te storm hit, done an internal audit and switched herself back on. He goes for a break.

Timmy confesses to a preoccupied Rosie what he did. She asks him why he is such an idiot and gives him a VitaChoc bar. This worries Timmy further.

Finbow tells Herlinde that he has valued her friendship and he wants to tell her what he feels about her. Herlinde becomes worried about the storm.

Jean-Francois tells Daniel that he thinks Melody has gone off him, and asks Daniel why he is always hanging around her. Daniel reminds Jean-Francois that he asked him to look after her.

Eliot visits Cats and they share stories of Cranfield over a drink. Cats seems to be having second thoughts about his mission.

Rosie comes to see Cats off. He boards the shuttle and, from the bridge, Finbow, Eliot and Rosie watch the launch. Cats contacts them to check comms, but whilst he is talking, comms are suddenly lost, and the Centaur vanishes off the scanner...
