Dr. Zucco and Sonia Bell are finishing their lunch and
are getting ready to go back in the Bio-Lab.
BELL
Has anyone ever found a trace of
him?
ZUCCO
(disturbed even more)
I had an old friend of mine, a ex-
Belgian government ranger checking
for me and he told me several months
later there was a report of an
unknown species of animal resembling
half man and half Ape seen
gorging itself on some Zaire Cattle
and the owner shot it dead. Because
of their religious beliefs they burned
the body, we think that was my dear
friend.
BELL
I see why you don't want to talk
about it.
ZUCCO
(still disturbed)
Oh yes, I still hurt over this whole
nasty affair. This is what happens my
dear when you mess with something
only god can and should do.
BELL
Both of you were scientist's
following instincts that have
made our civilization so great!
I would have done the same
thing!
ZUCCO
(misty eyed)
Yes! But don't you see my dear,
we had no generic investment
in the process so naturally
we were lacking the necessary
precautions and tests you
normally endure.
BELL
There was no time for tests,
you wanted to save his life!
ZUCCO
Yes, but I was acting like god
and I really didn't have the
right ......I just didn't
have the right to decide
between my friend living or
dying! It wasn't whether I
could save his life, but rather
If I should save his life!
BELL
Of course you should save his life!

ZUCCO
(somber)
My own theory, I believe the spore
is sound, but the sample I used was
probably contaminated with a very
small Monkey part that blended
with his DNA and caused the
de-formation!
BELL
I agree with you.
ZUCCO
(still disturbed)
I believe under laboratory conditions
we could isolate the spore to the
point where a pure re-creation
could take place.
BELL
Can we get some fresh samples?
ZUCCO
Yes, of course we can but then we
go back to the original issue,
do we have the right to?
BELL
Do you have any idea how many
human beings we could save with
the Genesis Spore?
ZUCCO

EXT. KITUM CAVE
Sharif, Lensi, Gauthier and Duvall are sitting around the
the campfire cooking a freshly caught fish.
SHARIF
Well my friends it was a stroke
of luck that Mr. Lensi was able
to get the radio working so we
could tell the pilot to come back
tomorrow. I estimate it will take
two to three hours for us to
prepare the bodies with the spore.
Dr. Gauthier it appears your arm
has a greater infection than
before, so you can sit this out,
Dr.'s Lensi and Duvall can assist
me!
DUVALL
(looking at Sharif)
He surely is going to die, I just
can't stop the infection!
GAUTHIER
(not concerned)
Don't worry about it Jean Luc, I've
had a long life and maybe it's just
my turn.
SHARIF
What agent was responsible for his
infection Dr. Duvall?
LENSI
(smiling)
It wasn't the Genesis Spore was it?
DUVALL
(concentrating)
We think it was. The process with
a live body apparently is an
unknown at this time.
SHARIF
There's a verse in Aramaic that goes
like this " Basho-len-kava", loosely
translated it means You must die before
you can be re-born!
DUVALL
We'll see you in a few hours!
GAUTHIER
Jean Luc, if I'm worse in the
morning leave me behind with
a gun.
LENSI
(Speaking to Duvall)
If Dr. Gauthier is terminal, why
don't we prepare him tonight
with the others. We can give
him a sedative. It's possible
he could wake up tomorrow
in a new body.
DUVALL
(upset)
If anything goes wrong, I will not
be able to live with myself. I'm
afraid that's out of the question.
GAUTHIER
Remember Jean Luc, I have a choice
too.
LENSI
(smiling)
He's right Jean Luc, let him make
the decision.
The two young men are seen in the moonlight inside their
Racal Bio-suits starting to prepare the two corpse.
DUVALL (O.S.)
(talking to himself)
Shit, I feel like Dr. Frankenstein!
LENSI
I heard that, yes you're right my
dear friend and colleague, we're
exactly like Dr. Frankenstein!
GAUTHIER
Jean Luc, I'm getting worse and
the pain is unbearable, please
give me the sedative and give me
a chance for a new life!
DUVALL
As you wish my dear friend!
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - EBOLA RIVER MORNING
EXT. BANTU VALLEY
INT. KITUM CAVE
Lensi, and Duvall are in their Racal suits and are near
the three bodies covered with the green Genesis Spore.
LENSI
(whispering)
Well, what do you think Jean Luc?
WAIT I JUST SAW MOVEMENT IN ONE OF
THE COCOONS!
Lensi and Duvall are watching the movement in the three
cocoons covered with the Genesis Spore.
SHARIF (O.S.)
(yelling)
Let's go gentlemen or we'll
miss our plane.
LENSI
(yelling)
We'll be out in a minute!
EXT. KITUM CAVE
Duvall and Lensi are removing their Racal suits and Sharif
is looking on.
SHARIF
You say you saw movement, it's too
bad we're not able to stay and watch
the awakening!
JEAN LUC
(upset)
I would rather not know, one
way or another.
The trio grab their gear and start the long trek back to
the airstrip.
JEAN LUC
Good by my friend, I wish you God
speed with your new life.
CUT TO:
EXT. LAKE GENEVA SWITZERLAND DAY
EXT. WILHELM RESEARCH LABORATORIES
INT. WILHELM RESEARCH LIBRARY
Dr. Zucco and Sonia Bell are finishing their Research
and are getting ready to go home.
BELL
Dr. Zucco, I can't seem to get
the Genesis Spore out of my mind.
ZUCCO
(smiling)
It's been ten years since I lost my
friend and I still get cold chills
when I think about it.
BELL
In the bible, Genesis 2 has Adam
made from clay, so why make Eve
from one of Adam's ribs, I don't
understand, the processes are not
consistent!
ZUCCO
(understanding)
Oh yes, I struggled with the same
problem. I guess it's all in the
interpretation. In Aramaic Eve was
made from a piece of Adam's ear lobe.
BELL
I'm a scientist and I struggle
with certain statements about
Genesis found in the bible.
In our modern day scientific
literature, if we don't agree
with the statement, we can attack
the author, but in the bible
there is no who?
ZUCCO
Yes! But don't you see my dear,
Genesis is regarded by many as
a literal rendition of creation,
the view of most Christians and
Jews until the latter half of the
ninetieth Century. Some see the
book as myth or legend expressive
merely of tribal beliefs,
superstitions, and mores!
BELL
Dr. Zucco, as a man of science
how can you live, knowing
that you have found the Genesis
spore, but cannot tell the
world about it.
ZUCCO
I have tried to tell my fellow
scientists, but without proof
they think I'm crazy!
BELL
I want to go to Africa and look
for the spore, will you go with
me?
ZUCCO
(somber)
You're risking your life, looking
for the spore.
BELL
I'm going, with or without you!
ZUCCO
(still disturbed)
In Revelation 22, there is a passage
that reads "If anyone tries to change
the meaning of the words in the book,
will add to him the plagues described
in the sacred book"!
BELL
Your, saying if I find the spore and
try to use it I will be taken by
the plagues described in the bible?
ZUCCO
Don't you see, if we were gods, we
would be in our heaven, not in the
flesh.
BELL
Do you think Jesus used the spore?
ZUCCO
My my, you are an inquisitive person
does your mind ever rest?
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - EBOLA RIVER DAY
EXT. TRAIL TO THE AIRSTRIP
Sharif, Lensi, and Duvall are sitting on a rock
outcropping. The temperature is extreme. As Lensi
is drinking water he lays back on the rock and
drops his hand over the side and touches the
grass. His hand is inches from a viper who is
startled and strikes him.
LENSI
(screaming)
Something bit me, please help me!
SHARIF
(in shock)
Oh, my god he was bit by a viper
quick, Jean Luc, kill it so we
can determine the species and see
if we have anti-venom!
DUVALL
(Killing the snake with
his machete)
It's a Black Mamba!
SHARIF
(holding Lensi, who is
going into shock)
Quickly, get my bag and find the
anti-venom for the Mamba, quickly!
LENSI
(coughing and choking)
I'm going to die, I know I'm
going to die!
DUVALL
(looking for the anti-venom)
It's not here, you have everything
but! I know Dr. Gauthier has some
in his bag!
SHARIF
Quickly, help me with Lensi and we'll
go back to Kitum!
The trio is seen dragging their injured comrade through
the bush!
CUT TO:
INT. WILHELM RESEARCH LIBRARY
Dr. Zucco and Sonia Bell are still conversing on the theory
of the spore.
BELL
Dr. Zucco, you didn't answer my
question, do you think Jesus used
the Genesis Spore?
ZUCCO
During the time of Christ, what he was
doing was considered the practices of
a priest. Priests were always secretive
of there processes and to some degree
they still are.
BELL
In the bible, Jesus took a loaf
of bread and duplicated it, many
times, how do you think he did
that.
ZUCCO
(understanding)
Oh yes, I struggled with that too!
But don't you see my dear, he was
the son of god, he had permission
to use the spore, we don't!
BELL
As a scientist, I struggle
with that but what concerns
me the most, is no one ever
questions the good book!
ZUCCO
Yes! But don't you see my dear,
Genetic Engineering questions
it every day.
BELL
Dr. Zucco, in the name of science
we need to go to Kitum and get the
spore.
ZUCCO
I have someone doing it right now!
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - EBOLA RIVER DAY
EXT. BANTU VALLEY
INT. KITUM CAVE
Sheriff, Duvall and Lensi have arrived at the cave
entrance and they've placed Lensi on a small cot.
LENSI
(whispering)
Am I going to die?
Sharif has just given an anti-venom shot to Lensi and is
monitoring his blood and heart beat. Duvall is looking
into the deeper part of the cave, watching for movement
from the three Genesis Spore patients.
SHARIF (O.S.)
(yelling)
Quick, come here Jean Luc!
LENSI
(yelling and gasping)
The pain, the pain ........
Duvall comes to Sharif's side and sees Lensi going into
spasms and foaming at the mouth.
SHARIF
(crying)
He's gone, we gave him the
Anti-venom too late!
JEAN LUC
(upset)
We can bring him back like the
others, if you wish?
SHARIF
(crying)
Where does it end Jean Luc,
do we keep bringing all our
dying friends and relatives
and treat them with the
spore?
JEAN LUC
He would do it for us!
CUT TO:
EXT. LAKE GENEVA SWITZERLAND DAY
EXT. WILHELM RESEARCH LABORATORIES
INT. WILHELM RESEARCH LIBRARY
Dr. Zucco and Sonia Bell are conversing about the Genesis
Spore.
BELL
Dr. Zucco, I want to be part of
the Genesis Research, please let
me participate.
ZUCCO
(somber)
It's been ten years since my last
bout with the spore and I still
can't sleep nights thinking about
it. I don't want you to be cursed
the rest of your life the way I was!
BELL
I'm a scientist first and a person
last. I want to be part of it even
if it kills me!
ZUCCO
(understanding)
Oh yes, I believe you, but I still
have to live with myself.
BELL
As a scientist and a friend, how
can you deny me the opportunity
of a life time!
ZUCCO
Yes! But don't you see my dear,
Genesis is wanted by someone
who is hell bent on taking
over the world. He lives in
the middle east, but I can't tell
you his name. He's very dangerous.
BELL
Dr. Zucco, as your protégé, I have
gone to the wall with you, who is
this person who is stopping my life?
ZUCCO
He is the new anti-Christ!
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - EBOLA RIVER DAY
INT. KITUM CAVE
Sharif and Duvall have prepared Lensi with the Genesis Spore
and are removing their Racal Suits.
SHARIF
(crying)
I don't feel very good about
playing god.
JEAN LUC
(upset)
We knew the risks involved being
in Africa and working with toxic
substances. But this is what we
do! And we do it well!
SHARIF
(crying)
We went from six men to four
maybes and two live men!
JEAN LUC
(upset)
Stop beating yourself up, we
could be one of those maybes
back in the deeper part of
the cave!
SHARIF
(concerned)
What do you suppose happened to
the other three?
JEAN LUC
(upset)
I don't know, maybe they woke up
and were hungry so they ran into
the jungle, looking for food!
SHARIF
(crying)
Let's go, I can't take anymore of
this cursed place.
JEAN LUC
It's late, so we'll have to make
double time, so we can make it
to the airstrip!
CUT TO:
INT. WILHELM RESEARCH LIBRARY
Dr. Zucco and Sonia Bell have come to an agreement.
BELL
Dr. Zucco, I will not let you down.
ZUCCO
I have spoken to my colleagues and
like a lot of men they're very hesitant
about having a woman as part of the team.
BELL
I understand, I can handle it.
ZUCCO
(looking a little sick)
Quick, get me my nitro out of my
jacket pocket, quickly, my hearts
acting up!
BELL
You must have left your jacket in
the cafeteria, or the lab, it's not
here.
ZUCCO
(gasping)
The pain, .....
(Zucco drops on the floor)
BELL
(hysterical)
Dr. Zucco! ......Dr. Zucco
ZUCCO
(coughing)
Oh my lord!
BELL
Please don't die!
ZUCCO
(gasping)
The pain, .....
(Zucco is gone)
BELL
(hysterical)
Dr. Zucco! ......Dr. Zucco!
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - EBOLA RIVER AFTERNOON
EXT. TRAIL TO THE AIRSTRIP
Sharif and Duvall are running and have just stopped
to catch their breath.
SHARIF
(out of breath)
Oh, my god....... I just can't
keep up this pace, I just can't!
DUVALL
(looking at his watch)
It's still another mile to the
airstrip, it will be dark in
a few more minutes, we don't
want to be caught out here
after dark.
SHARIF
(bracing himself against
a small tree)
Go ahead .....I'll catch up, if
you don't go ahead, the pilot
will leave, go Jean Luc go!
DUVALL
(looking at the position
of the sun)
Ok, the pilot and I will come and
get you, ok?
SHARIF
Quickly, go .... go!
Duvall starts to run again and is seen disappearing down
the jungle trail.
SHARIF (Cont.)
(GASPING)
Oh my heart!.... Oh my god I
must be having a heart attack,
Jean Luc, come back.
He staggers and falls down grasping his chest and dies.
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - EBOLA RIVER NIGHT
EXT. BANTU VALLEY
EXT. AIRSTRIP
Duvall has emerged from the jungle and is in shock when
he sees the plane is gone.
DUVALL
(talking to himself)
Well I guess that just about does
it.
Duvall starts setting up his camp and starts a small fire.
DUVALL (cont.)
(talking to himself)
Well I should be all right as long
as I can keep the fire burning.
Duvall starts making some bouillon soup and looks at his
watch again. He calls Sharif on his small hand held radio.
DUVALL (cont.)
(talking into the mic)
Jean Luc calling Dr. Sharif,
over!
(silence)
Jean Luc calling Dr. Sharif,
over!
(silence)
Jean Luc ......
(talking to himself)
Shit, I'm wasting my time.
Duvall sits next to the fire and looks deep into the
flames.
DUVALL (cont.)
(talking to himself)
Well I should have had my head
examined before I agreed to
come on this project.
Duvall starts sipping the soup when he hears a noise
at the edge of the jungle.
DUVALL (cont.)
(talking to himself)
Ok, ex-Foreign Legionnaire, keep cool!
Duvall has dosed off and a creature resembling half-man
and half Ape approaches the campfire. It stays in the shadows
and stares at Jean-Luc.
GAUTHIER
(whispering)
Jean-Luc, it is me your old
friend Claude!
DUVALL
(startled)
Oh, my god it's you Claude the
spore works! Come here near the
fire so I can see you.
GAUTHIER
(whispering)
Jean-Luc, you don't want to see
me, ...... I'm disfigured. I'm
half beast and half man.
DUVALL
(upset)
Oh, my god something is still
wrong with the preparation of
the spore.
GAUTHIER
Jean-Luc, I found Dr. Sharif
dead on the trail, it appears
he had a heart attack.
DUVALL
Please, I want to see you.
GAUTHIER
It's best you don't. I came here
to warn you about the others.
DUVALL
The others?
GAUTHIER
Jean-Luc, ..... O'Hare and Weiss
are coming to get you. I was able
to get away, but when they know
I'm gone they will come here!
DUVALL
Do they have any weapons?
GAUTHIER
No, but they will kill you with
their hands and then eat you!
DUVALL
Claude, what went wrong with
the Genesis Spore?
GAUTHIER
I don't know Jean-Luc, ....
I don't know! Maybe just maybe
the spore is contaminated with
monkey DNA, and is unable to rid
itself of it!
DUVALL
Please, I want to see you.
GAUTHIER
(startled)
Get your gun Jean-Luc they're
here I must go, oh one more
thing.
DUVALL
I'm ready, let them come.
GAUTHIER
Jean-Luc, if you escape, you will
find a large box under my desk
in the office. it contains a
lot of money. I want you to take
it all, it's a small payment for
all the grief I have put you
through during this expedition.
I must go .... good luck!
DUVALL
Please, don't go Claude!
Duvall has a gun in each hand and is ready, he hears
something approaching from the right side and he
fires. A loud blood curdling scream is heard and
something falls down in agony. Something jumps him
from the left, he fires, but too late the creature
throws him down. Jean-Luc fires several times and
the creature goes down.
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - EBOLA RIVER DAY
EXT. BANTU VALLEY
EXT. AIRSTRIP
A small plane makes two low passes over the small strip
when the pilot sees something at the edge of the
air-strip.
PILOT
(talking to himself)
Well I guess I better land and
see what that is.
The pilot makes a smooth landing and taxies the plane
up to the edge of the forest, he shuts the engine
down and gets out of his airplane.
PILOT (cont.)
(talking to himself)
Well it looks like a badly
injured white man. He was
probably attacked by wild
animals during the night.
The pilot walks over to the young man laying on his side
with gashes on his forehead and arms. Jean Luc smiles when
he sees his rescuer. The pilot drags him over to the plane
and places him in the front passenger seat. He climbs in
the pilots seat and starts the engine, runs it up then taxis
to the end of the strip. He runs up the engine and takes off.
CUT TO:
ONE MONTH LATER
EXT. LAKE GENEVA SWITZERLAND DAY
EXT. WILHELM RESEARCH LABORATORIES
INT. TOXIC RESEARCH LAB
Dr. Sonia Bell is conversing with Jean Luc Duvall about Dr. Zucco.
Duvall has just completed his story about Zaire.
BELL
(somber)
I think that if Dr. Zucco were still
alive he would be very grateful to
you Jean Luc for Delivering this
spore to me, even though it's dead.
DUVALL
Dr. Bell I had a large investment
in this spore and I wanted to help
you with the research. No one knows
the spectrum of properties associated
with Genesis.
CUT TO:
INT. WILHELM RESEARCH - CAFETERIA
Dr. Bell is continuing a conversation with Jean Luc.
BELL
Dr. Zucco was going to take me
to Africa to get the Genesis
Spore.
DUVALL
(disturbed)
I think that's something that's
best left alone, my dear.
BELL
You can trust me, I will not tell
a soul!
DUVALL
(disturbed)
Too many people have lost there
souls over the spore and the risk
is too high for a woman to go to
Africa.
BELL
It's that bad?
DUVALL
You have no idea?
BELL
I will go by myself.
DUVALL
Don't be stubborn, you have no
idea what is waiting for you
in Zaire!
BELL
What lions, tigers and bears!
DUVALL
No, two half human's and a
toxic spore!
BELL
I'm a risk taker!
DUVALL
A month in Zaire would cost at
least sixty-thousand, do you
have that kind of money?
BELL
I can get it, my family is
very wealthy. Give me a name
of a guide so I can start
setting this up.
DUVALL
You win, I will take you to
Zaire, but there is a very
high probability, we'll not
return!
BELL
I'm a scientist first and a
frail woman last! This is an
opportunity of a lifetime,
our names will go down in
the history books, we will
be famous!
DUVALL
We will be dead!
CUT TO:
TWO WEEKS LATER
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - KITUM CAVE HEAVY RAIN
EXT. ENTRANCE TO CAVE
Bell and Duvall have just arrived and are now setting up camp.
BELL
(out of breath)
Jean Luc, thank you for bringing
me here and thank you for taking
care of me.
DUVALL
(looking at his watch)
Your welcome. It's too late in
the day to go into the cave and
harvest some Genesis Spore. We'll
do it first thing in the morning.
BELL
(whispering)
Jean Luc, I have a feeling we are
being watched. I thought I saw
someone or something watching us
from inside the cave.
Jean Luc removes his 9MM pistol from his holster, chambers
a round and walks up to the edge of the cave. He starts
yelling into the cave opening.
DUVALL
Claude ...... Claude ...is that
you, I won't hurt you.
He hears a rusting noise and what appears to come into the
shadows is an animal resembling half-beast and half-man.
GAUTHIER
Yes, Jean Luc it's me, your old
friend Claude, don't come any
closer, I don't want you to see
my appearance.
DUVALL
Don't be silly Claude, I want
to see you.
GAUTHIER
If your here for the Genesis
spore, your too late. It's
all gone.
DUVALL
What happened to it?
GAUTHIER
I don't know, we've searched
the entire length of the crevasse
and there is nothing!
DUVALL
Who is we?
GAUTHIER
Lensi and I. There is extreme
danger here for both of you.
DUVALL
Why?
GAUTHIER
Lensi wants your assistant for
a mate. The spore brings out all
the Primal animalistic traits
in humans and he plans to kill
you tonight and take her.
DUVALL
Where is he now?
GAUTHIER
He's deep in the cave at our
watering hole, he will be
back shortly. For a reason
unknown to us we are not able
to go out into direct sun
light. Please leave now
Jean-Luc! I must go now, I
think I hear Lensi coming back!
Jean Luc runs back to Dr. Bell's side and grabs her by
the arm.
DUVALL
(VERY UPSET)
Sonia, did you hear the
conversation, between
Dr. Gauthier and me?
BELL
Yes I did, but you have a gun,
why are you worried?
DUVALL
The spore is gone, maybe it only
grows on a seasonal basis, who
knows, but why stay?
BELL
Why would he lie?
DUVALL
I don't have time to argue with
you, and unless you want to become
bride of King Kong, we must leave
now!
BELL
Where will we go?
DUVALL
We have just enough time to get
to the air field, where we'll
have plenty of space around us
so we do not have any surprise
attacks by Lensi!
BELL
What about all the equipment and
supplies?
DUVALL
Carry what we need and leave the
rest.
BELL
Ok, let's go!
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - EBOLA RIVER EVENING
EXT. TRAIL TO THE AIRSTRIP
Bell and Duvall are running and have just stopped
to catch their breath.
BELL
Oh, Jean Luc .... I just can't

DUVALL

Duvall and Bell start to run again and are seen disappearing

EXT. AIRSTRIP
Duvall and Bell have emerged from the jungle and head
for the center of the field.
DUVALL
(out of breath)
Well I guess this will just have
to be the best we can do!
Duvall and Bell start setting up camp and he starts a small fire.
DUVALL (Cont.)
Well we should be all right as long
as I can keep the fire burning.
Duvall starts making some BOUILLON SOUP and looks at
his watch again. He calls the Air Service on his small hand
held radio.
DUVALL (cont.)
(talking into the Radio)
Jean Luc calling Zaire Air Service
over!
(silence)
Jean Luc calling Zaire Air Service

(silence)
Jean Luc ......
(very upset)
Shit, where is everybody?
Duvall and Bell sit next to the fire and look deep into the
flames.
DUVALL (cont.)
(somber)

BELL
I'm sorry Jean Luc if I have
caused you any more problems
than you already have.
DUVALL
(whispering)
I hear something out there ...
and ......
A thing jumps out of nowhere and takes Duvall down, in
a split second he fires and after several shots the attacker
goes down. Duvall drags the attacker near the
fire and sees a being that is half human and half beast.
He places a fresh clip in his Beretta and places the muzzle
of the weapon in the face of the beast and opens fire,
dropping him instantly.
BELL
(screaming)
That's enough Jean Luc, he gone,
he's gone!
Duvall drags the dead beast away from the camp and
pours kerosene all over the body and lights it. The
beast goes up in flames.
BELL
Jean Luc, now that your enemy
is gone can we go back to Kitum?
DUVALL
Oh you are a stubborn one aren't
you!
BELL
Jean Luc, were already here, what
do we have to lose?
DUVALL
Ok, one quick peek and were out
of here!
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - KITUM CAVE HEAVY RAIN DAY
EXT. ENTRANCE TO CAVE
Bell and Duvall have just dressed in there Racal suits and
are ready to descend into the toxic crevasse.
BELL
(very excited)
Jean Luc, thank you for being
there for me and for taking
such good care of me.
DUVALL
(looking at his watch)
Your welcome. Ok lets go in the
cave now and see if we can find
some Genesis Spore.
BELL
(whispering)
Jean Luc, I have a feeling we are
being watched again, I thought I saw
someone or something watching us
from inside the cave, maybe it's your
friend Claude?
Jean Luc removes his 9MM pistol from his holster, chambers
a round and walks up to the edge of the cave. He starts
yelling into the cave opening.
DUVALL
Claude ...... Claude ...is that
you.
He hears a rustling noise, and sees in the shadows what
appears to be a beast.
GAUTHIER
Yes, Jean Luc it's me, your old
friend Claude, don't come any
closer.
DUVALL
Don't be silly Claude, we need
your help. We're going into the
crevasse and we would like you
to assist us.
GAUTHIER
Like I told you before, if your
here for the Genesis spore, your
too late. It's all gone.
DUVALL
Dr. Bell and I will venture in
the crevasse and we don't intend
to spend anymore than an hour
in there. Please help us, your
sight in the dark is much better
than ours.
GAUTHIER
Very well , I will help you and
your friend, but we must be very
careful.
CUT TO:
INT. EDGE OF CREVASSE
Bell and Duvall have just descended down into the abyss
of the deep crevasse. Gauthier is controlling the long ropes
holding the two adventurers. They are now down over
eighty feet and are searching with very powerful hand
held lights. Duvall sees a bright green patch of something
growing on a small ledge.
BELL
(very excited)
Jean Luc, I see it too, is that the
Genesis spore?
DUVALL
(looking at his find)
It looks like it, you stay here
and I'll swing over and get some.
Duvall starts swinging back and forth and does not notice
the nylon rope catching on the sharp ledge above. The rope
has frayed and is now starting to cut it's way through.
BELL
(whispering)
Jean Luc, get plenty, so we
don't ever have to come to this
cursed place again.
Jean Luc continues to swing back and forth on the rope and
Gauthier sees the rope starting to fray he try's to pull it away
from the cutting edge when he loses his footing and falls deep
into the abyss. Gauthier's body is seen falling and bouncing
off the walls of the crevasse and it finally falls in to a moat
of black putrid stagnate water. The body slowly sinks into
the moat, Bell sees this and starts to scream.
BELL (CONT.)
Jean Luc, Claude has fallen
deep into the crevasse, what
can we do?
Duvall yells as he looks down into the Abyss and his voice
echoes through the length of the crevasse.
DUVALL
Claude! ......Claude!
(looking at Sonia)
He's gone Sonia, he's gone and
there is nothing we can do. I
was able to collect some
Genesis. Let's stop pushing
our luck and get the hell out
of this place!
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - KITUM CAVE
HEAVY RAIN DAY
EXT. ENTRANCE TO CAVE
Bell and Duvall have just packed all their supplies
and are ready for the long hike back to the airstrip.
BELL
(depressed)
Jean Luc, I'm so sorry what
happened to your friend.
DUVALL
(looking at his watch)
Shit happens, the way he was
deformed he's better off dead.
This morning while you were
sleeping I finally contacted
the air service. They will
meet us at the airstrip in
about three hours from now,
so we better get going.
BELL
(crying)
Jean Luc, maybe all this is
happening to us because we
have no right to poses this
creation spore and maybe god
is punishing us.
DUVALL
Don't you think it's a little
late for second thoughts?
BELL
Ok let's go Jean Luc, we mustn't
miss our plane.
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - EBOLA RIVER
LIGHT RAIN DAY
EXT. BANTU VALLEY
EXT. AIRSTRIP
Duvall and Bell have emerged from the jungle and head
for the center of the field.
DUVALL
(out of breath)
Well I guess we just sit down
and relax and wait for the
plane.
Duvall and Bell start making soup when they hear a tremendous
explosion, they look and see the volcano starting to erupt.
DUVALL (Cont.)
Well it looks like we are getting
out of here just in time.
Jean Luc takes off his Pith Helmet and wipes his brow and looks
up shading his eyes.
DUVALL
Here comes our plane.
BELL
Great, I'm ready to go home!
DUVALL
We should be in Yambuko in
about an hour and a half.
Where is the hot agent carrier
Sonia?
BELL
I thought you had it Jean Luc!
Oh my god we have left it behind!
We must go back, please we must go
back!
A STOL type aircraft makes a low pass and lands in the dirt strip.
The pilot taxis the plane up to where Bell and Duvall are waiting.
The pilot KEVIN BROWNING a young man in his late twenties
shuts down the engine and gets out of the plane.
DUVALL
(shouting)
Kevin, it's good to see you!
BROWNING
(shaking Duvall's hand)
Jean Luc, we need to get out of
here, another front is moving in,
are you ready?
BELL
Jean Luc, can't we go back and
get the spore?
KEVIN
From the air I saw two
black men watching you.
They both had rifles.
DUVALL
No way, no way, we have
seen no one since we've
been here.
Browning runs to the edge of the jungle stops and turns
around. I must have scared them off. Probably poachers.
BROWNING
Are you ready Jean Luc?
(takes the baggage and
starts loading the plane)
Did you forget something?
DUVALL
We forgot nothing, let's go.
They all walk back to the Aircraft and Browning helps
Dr. Bell who is crying openly. Dr. Bell gets in the
rear of the plane and Duvall gets in the front seat
next to the pilot. The pilot starts up the engine and
then taxi's out to the take off point, the engine
screams as they take off.
CUT TO:
EXT. KENYA AFRICA - MT. ELGON
FROM THE AIR DAY
EXT. KITUM CAVE - FROM THE AIR
INT. CESSNA 185 STOL AIRCRAFT
BROWNING
(shouting over the noise
of the engine)
Jean Luc, why is Dr. Bell still
crying?
CUT TO:
EXT. ZAIRE AFRICA - KITUM CAVE
HEAVY RAIN DAY
EXT. ENTRANCE TO CAVE
The hot agent carrier is still laying next to the entrance of the
cave where Dr. Bell had left it. Two native poachers have emerged
from the bush and are looking at the strange carrier. They see the
bright flower indicating hot agent and they find it fascinating.
POACHER ONE (Swahili)
(excited)
SAMI, look here our luck has
changed it looks like a diamond
carrier, we should fetch a very
good price for this trinket in
Nairobi!
CUT TO:
EXT. KENYA AFRICA - MT. ELGON FROM THE AIR
EXT. KITUM CAVE - FROM THE AIR
INT. CESSNA 185 STOL AIRCRAFT
BELL
(shouting over the noise
of the engine)
Good-bye, Genesis, good-bye!
