INT. GOLDSTONE EXECUTIVE CONFERENCE ROOM
Scott and Basso are sitting with DR's Brady and Hunter
watching the morning news coming from Reno Nevada.
HANK WILLIS (TV)
(somber)
The President declared a major disaster in
California and Idaho as the western United
States reeled from storms and floods that
have killed at least 2000 people and forced
1,000,000 from their homes. More than one
million homes were under water in
California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho..
Preliminary flood damage estimates from
sixteen California counties just a small
proportion of those affected exceeded
$50 billion.
SCOTT
Looks like the Disasters are ahead of
schedule.
HANK WILLIS (TV)
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those
who have lost loved ones or their homes
and businesses in these terrible floods,''
the President said in a statement Tuesday
released during his vacation in Colorado .
BASSO
Looks like the Disasters on the west coast
are just the beginning. Will they be more
intense as Planet X gets closer?
HUNTER
We really don't know Agent Basso.
HANK WILLIS (TV)
His disaster declaration makes federal
aid available to flood victims and
local governments in Idaho, California,
Nevada, Oregon and Washington states.
Federal Emergency Management Agency
Director was due to tour flood-damaged
communities in Nevada and Idaho and
meet with state and local officials and
victims Sunday. Only the roofs of dozens
of homes were visible amid the murky
brown water that stretched as far as the
eye could see. Families and pets stranded
on the roofs of houses were pulled to
safety in daring helicopter rescues.
Thousands anxious evacuees took refuge
in Red Cross shelters. In Reno, Nevada,
cleanup was under way after the Truckee
River burst its banks this week, pouring
muddy water through the downtown area
and forcing some casinos to close.
SCOTT
Dr. Brady, please let me hear the message
from Planet X again.
COMPUTER VOICE
"Remember thy words in Antiquity....
The waters saw thee, O Lord, and shuddered.....
Thine splitting sparks went forth. The sound
of thine thunder was rolling; Lightning's lit
up the world; The Earth was agitated and it
quaked. (Then) in the waters was thy course,
Thine Paths in the deep waters; The southern
frozen world may be breaking up; Ready thine
Ark .......The seventh passing of the holy
Planet is upon you!..."
BASSO
I know what you're thinking, Brian.
SCOTT
Is it possible Noah received this same
message in one form or another some
four-thousand years ago?
BASSO
And the Ark was really a large space ship?
BRADY
The Hebrew word for ark is related to the
Egyptian word db't, which means coffin,
and maybe the space ship looked like a
coffin.
HUNTER
Why was Noah working, building a great
boat for 120 years preparing for a local flood?
Why not simply climb the highest mountain
or move to a different Valley?
BRADY
In the bible God promised he would never
again destroy the earth in a flood like this one,
so why are we entertaining the possibility of
doing it again.
SCOTT
Great local floods have ravaged the earth down
through the ages, killing millions. The Flood
of Noah is clearly unique, it was one of a kind.
BRADY
The Hebrew word mabbul is used only in
describing the Flood of Noah in the Old
Testament. When the Old Testament was
translated into Greek, the word kataklusmos
was used in the Septuagint (LXX) in place of
mabbul. This is the same word the Apostle
Peter gives a great commentary on the Flood
in his second letter, Chapter 3.
SCOTT
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief,
and then the heavens will pass away with a
loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved
with fire, and the earth and the works that
are upon it will be burned up.
HUNTER
All the water from the flood is still present on
the earth. If one bulldozed all the continents into
the ocean depths, the earth would now be entirely
covered by about a mile of water today. For example
the Pacific Ocean is about two miles deep on the
average, while the continental US averages less
than one mile above sea level.
BRADY
Most of the great mountain ranges we see today
were probably build up after the flood by isostatic
rebound, and by collision of the continental plates
after rapid breakup and accelerated "drift." Before
the flood the earth seems to have had just one
continent.
HUNTER
Rapid continental drift would have been so
disastrous in terms of earthquakes, tidal waves,
vulcanism and other upheavals that many
scientifically-oriented Bible scholars believe the
splitting of earth's original continent,
occurred during the year of the flood.
Scott and Basso are sitting with Dr's Brady and Hunter
listening to a radio broadcast when their friend Tara walks
into the room and sits down next to HUNTER.
HUNTER
I asked Tara to let us know if she has information
related to Project Bright Star.
BASSO
I'm happy to see you again Tara.
TARA
Extraterrestrials have contacted me in response to
my urgent message concerning this project.
SCOTT
How do you communicate with them?
TARA
They talk to me when I'm in meditation.
BASSO
Oh really.
TARA
They told me the landing of their people will be
in the next six to nine months.
SCOTT
Where are they landing? And you did say before
that there is nothing here that they want?
TARA
They plan to rescue families along the western
and eastern seaboard.
BASSO
Some of our scientists are saying there is another
object following planet X. It looks maybe like
a space ship What is going on here?
TARA
If the object exists, it is extremely strange. Judging
from the fact that it is sometimes visible and
sometimes not, it may have quite a substantial ability
to maneuver. In any case, its presence near Planet X
is being confirmed more and more clearly by the
astronomical community. Whether or not other
observatories will release their photographs of the object
remains to be seen, and is essentially a cultural issue:
BASSO
Is modern astronomical science able to address an
anomaly this strange, or will it simply ignore it?
TARA
It is not my purpose or intention to make any sort of
final determination about whether or not the object is
intelligently guided. While this may be the case, but it
must not be forgotten that the universe is very big and
nature is very strange, and we could be seeing a natural
object that is so totally outside of our expected parameters
that it appears to be constructed.
HUNTER
However, if the properties so far reported prove to be
accurate, it seems more likely that the object
is intelligently constructed and guided. There are two
primary reasons for this: first, the object has a very
low mass and yet is emitting light. This implies a
power source very unlike what is seen in nature.
For this phenomenon to occur naturally, the object
would have to be a small star, but it is nowhere near
as massive nor as energetic as even a tiny star would
be; second, the object is not only on a trajectory, it is
also under maneuver.
BRADY
There is nothing in nature that would behave like this.
A secondary reason involves the radio emissions.
If they are indeed modulated, then they must be of
intelligent origin. Modulated signals do not occur
in nature.
BASSO
If It is a Ship, Then What's It Doing Here?
TARA
If the object is a construction, then it must either be
empty of living creatures or inhabited with them,
in greater or lesser numbers. There are several
possibilities.
HUNTER
If it's moving something from one star system to
another, and intends to use its journey around the
sun to take on energy and accelerate itself using
the slingshot effect.
BRADY
This would explain why it is following a Planetary
trajectory. If this is the case, all that we will
see of it is a magnificent light show, which will
leave us forever aware that there is a civilization
out there somewhere with inspiring technological
capabilities and extraordinary patience.
HUNTER
These technological capabilities are revealed by the fact
that the object exists, that it is huge, and that it has an
energy source so potent that it can emit is own light
over its vast surface. The patience would come from
the fact that, if it is following the Planet's
trajectory to use its turn around the sun to gain
speed, then it cannot be under much independent
motive power.
BRADY
At most, it will travel at a small fraction of light speed.
In this case, its traverse of even the smallest part of the
galaxy will take hundreds of thousands of years.
HUNTER
Or ......it's an inhabited "ship," so large that it is,
in effect, an independent planet. All of mankind,
occupying the same land area are that we now do, could
fit into approximately one sixty-fourth of the
interior surface area of this object. If it is four
times the size of the earth, an atmosphere the
thickness of our own could hang above its surface, and there would still be tens of thousands of
miles of vacuum to the center of the object.
BRADY
At this center, an artificial star could be suspended. Thus
a totally self-contained and self-regenerative environment
could be created, but the lifetime of the tiny star would be
short, probably only a few thousand years, and it would have
to be managed carefully to avoid a runaway reaction. It
may be that the luminescent outer surface is an indication
of this management process in action, as excess energy
is radiated into space.
HUNTER
Or ....it's something totally unknown and unexpected.
Under this scenario, it might be, for example, a creature
in and of itself. The Bible describes Lucifer as a star,
"the bringer of light." It does not comment on his size.
If it is Lucifer, we can assume that we are the reason
that he has turned up. It would not be unreasonable to
anticipate a greeting from him sometime soon,
probably a warm one.
BASSO
If This Baby is Inhabited, Then Why Are They Here?
TARA
Maybe they have been exploring the universe and
they just discovered us. And they are on their way
in to take a closer look. This could be the most
delightful of all the many fascinating scenarios
attaching to the incredible possibility that the
object is inhabited. We could be in the early
stages of just the sort of first contact situation
that many of our scientists have dreamed
about.
HUNTER
If this is the case, they are likely to make a close
approach to earth with some smaller device at
some time in the near future. If this happens, we
can expect that the approach will be very open
and obvious.
TARA
They will be taking pains not to frighten us.
In fact, they may already be doing this. After all,
if the object has independent motive power,
traveling close to the Planet is a choice
that they have made. It is a choice on behalf of
recognition by us: they would have known that
we were watching the Planet, and they went there
because they wanted to be noticed. In addition,
the presence of radio signals is further evidence
of a desire to be observed.
BASSO
Or they are "The Visitors" come en masse and what
the heck is that going to mean? Bear in mind that
both this hypothesis and hypothesis one could be
true at the same time. Why? We know that movement
through time is possible. Could it be that we are
observing their first moment of arrival, and that they
will now loop back through our entire history and inject
themselves into it and that all of the close encounter
experiences that have taken place so far have been so
enigmatic because they were with time travelers who
were not entirely a part of the moments they were entering?
HUNTER
If this is the case, they could arrive in total
ignorance of us and then know us completely only
a short time later, having sent their scouts
through our whole history in what could,
in the ordinary world, be only a few minutes. In the
process they would give rise to the legends of the
gods and the devils and the ghosts of myth, and the
elusive, dream-time aliens that so many people see
today.
BRADY
Theories, theories, theories, what's gonna happen? First,
whatever it is, there is nothing we can do to change it
by force.It would be ineffective and probably quite
dangerous to us all if some earthly power decided to
fight. World leaders should alter the missions of their
military so that there is no effort to defend violated
ground and airspace. Given the breathtaking power that
is being displayed, we would be well-advised to present
a calm, orderly and peaceful face to any approach that
they might make. However, we should also present
ourselves clearly as the inhabitants of this world
of ours. This is our place and, unlike them, we can't
go anywhere else.
SCOTT
Oh, God, It's "Independence Day!" This is totally improbable.
First, if their intentions were hostile, the last thing they would do would be to announce themselves. Second, what would hostile intentions actually be? Would they want to take over our
planet, perhaps? Why, when theirs is obviously far larger
and capable of deep space travel? Or maybe mine our resources?
Why bother to fight us for what little we have when the rest
of the solar system is packed with massive amounts of the
same resources, all available for the taking? But what about us, then-maybe they want to make us slaves. Again, why would
anybody in possession of vast and breathtaking technology such as we see want slaves? Why feed and care for scared,
uncooperative, hostile slaves when you could do the same things far better with machines?
TARA
So If It's Not Independence Day, Then What Day Is It? Probably
a very bright new day. In my years of contact with the visitors, it has become clear to me that we are not stupid but
inexperienced. Not only that, they are obviously fascinated with us. Our lives and behavior interest them greatly, and we are probably going to benefit enormously from contact with them. They have been slowly easing themselves into human culture for at least fifty years and probably a lot longer. They have taken absolutely incredible pains not to bruise the ego of the human species. Indeed, if they have any consistent policy, it has been a subtle combination of secrecy and theater, one that can only be calculated to acclimatize us to their presence without overwhelming us with their power.
BASSO
But What About the Horror Stories? When you analyze the
visitor experience, you find only two basic scenarios:
"If I woke up in the presence of aliens and they scared the
hell out of me, and they took (eggs/sperm/a fetus) from
me." If I had experienced both of these scenarios, so let's
look at what they may mean. First, I doubt that there was
any way in the world for them to reach me in a useful and
meaningful manner except by doing what they did, which
was to explode my whole world view in my face. I not only
would meet them, but I would be forced to completely
reassess my understanding of reality.
TARA
My vision was shattered, and I had to rebuild myself from
the ground up. Under their guidance, I would be
tremendously enhanced, and now stand at the edge of a
totally new life. I am about to be able to extend my
consciousness outside of time and become the true master
of my own fate, in effect to join myself to deity and
cosmos not only as a suppliant but as a humble and very
grateful companion.
HUNTER
Well, Lucky You. What About the People Who Lost Fetuses,
Who Were Invaded and Raped? Don't get me wrong. I think
that there has been a profound penetration into our sexual being.It may be that the visitors have taken reproductive material and used it for their own ends. If so, they obviously chose to do this without explaining themselves and before our human institutions officially recognized their existence so that we couldn't say no.
TARA
On one level, it's not a pretty picture and it's a very
inconsistent one: how could they do something so
obviously wrong while approaching us so carefully
and so ethically? There are only two possible answers
to this question: either they are desperate and cannot
afford to be denied, or we are desperate and don't know
it and cannot be allowed to resist. Given the high level
of ethics shown in all their other activities, one of the
two scenarios above must be true, and we will, I am sure,
find out the answer sooner or later. In the meantime,
if I am correct, the moment the visitors allow themselves
to be officially recognized, such activities will cease.
They will almost certainly complete this part of their
mission before there is any danger of our refusing, as
nations, peoples and a species, to comply.
HUNTER
Okay, Say They're Here. I Have A Family and My Kids
Want a Future. Is There Anything We Can Do?
TARA
There's a lot. First, they have spent years teaching me to
meditate, and my whole relationship with them has
revolved around prayer and meditation. I suggest that
we all meditate at midnight each night in whatever time
zone we happen to be in, that we direct our attention to
the object and see if we can't start responding to their
presence by recognizing it with our own. In addition,
I would think that a radio signal announcing our
presence should be directed at them.
BASSO
What's Going to Happen?
TARA
Well, if the object is natural, it is simply going to go
steaming on its merry way. If it is inhabited, we
really have no way of discerning the plans of the
inhabitants unless they are the visitors who have
come over the past fifty years to seem more and more real. Should this be the case, then we should
assume that what they have done in the past has
been preparation for what they are going to do next.
SCOTT
I really don't think we are in any danger.
TARA
In the past, what they have not done is to deal with us
as societies and cultures, but rather on a very private,
very individual basis. The appearance of this object
changes that: from the beginning, it has been an
approach to mankind as a social creature. The
particular group that is presently most affected, of
course, is the astronomical community.
HUNTER
If, at some point, they realize the moral position that
they are in, they will communicate their discoveries
in a clear and forthright manner to the rest of mankind.
All of this activity will be on an institutional and social
level, and that is what has changed. If this is a contact
situation with the visitors we already know
(assuming that they are indeed real), then it is the
first time any human institutions have been addressed.
BRADY
It may well be that they will behave toward us on an
institutional level as they have to individuals. They
induce personal evolution, and evolution is essentially
a stress response. This will mean that there will be a
significant level of stress, and that their presence will
create incredibly urgent social questions that can neither
be borne nor answered. We will respond to these
questions as a society in the same way that individuals
respond, by initiating dynamic new adaptations.
HUNTER
So, what do we do?
TARA
What the questions will be, and what form they will take,
remains to be seen, but it may safely be conjectured that
they will be societal versions of the questions faced by
individual witnesses. Of these, the first is virtually
universal, after meeting the visitors, the individual is
left at a total loss about who and what they are. One's own
meaning is called into urgent question. And then the psychic
changes start, the mind, it seems, is opened to the stars
and beyond. And that, I think, is probably the destination
and destiny of us all.
BRADY
We need proof!
TARA
What kind of proof do you need?.
SCOTT
Something that we can show our director.
TARA
You will have your proof by noon tomorrow.
BASSO
Proof in what form?
TARA
You will see.
BASSO
Our government will need indisputable proof.
TARA
You will have it.
SCOTT
May I suggest a landing..
TARA
Very well you will have a landing at noon
tomorrow in the White Mountains.
BASSO
So your saying aliens will land in the White Mountains
Nevada?
TARA
Exactly!
BASSO
May we meet them?
TARA
The extraterrestrials are very shy and I don't think
that will be possible.
SCOTT
You mean they may land but we wont be able
to converse with them?
TARA
Man is one of the most dangerous species they
have ever encountered in this part of the Universe.
SCOTT
I can believe that.
TARA
Ok we'll call our director and have him ready to view
the landing.
CUT TO:
EXT. WHITE MOUNTAIN LABORATORY - DAY - 1100 HR'S
INT. WHITE MOUNTAIN GEOPHYSICS LABORATORY
Dr.'s ALAN BASCO and JOE WILES are reviewing a seismic
printout representing the LONG VALLEY CALDERA GRID. They
appear to be very upset. Dr. Basco is a seismologist
working for CAL TECH at this remote location. Dr. Wiles is
a USGS scientist resident at this site, both are average
looking men in their early thirties.
BASCO
(studying the printout)
Look Wiles, I've never seen so much
activity in the Caldera before.
(hands the printout to Wiles)
Looks like it's ready to let go,
what do you think?
WILES
Well we knew it was just a matter of time
before the Long Valley Caldera would go.
If it's everything we predicted they'll
have a real problem with all the vacationers
at Mammoth Lakes and June Lakes resorts.
We need to issue a stage two orange alert
so we can start evacuating.
BASCO
We can't do that, what if it doesn't happen,
we'll lose our jobs and all the grants we've
acquired.
WILES
I think we need to go down there and get
some core samples at HOT CREEK.
BASCO
I don't think we have the authority to
to set C4 charges at several locations
plus setting up our equipment and drawing
a lot of attention.
WILES
How much time do we have?
BASCO
(laughing)
Two hours, two days, two weeks hell
I don't know.
WILES
Why don't we go down and look at
the MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN FAULT and
see if anything has changed.
BASCO
(serious)
The last time this happened it
closed, now it's open, what if
it decides to close while were
in it?
WILES
We're scientist, not school teachers
in the safety of their classrooms.
BASCO
Yes, but we're not stunt men and
not getting paid like stunt men.
WILES
How much damage do you think it will
do when it goes off?
BASCO
I don't know? The worst case scenario
is an area about thirty square miles
about five hundred feet deep of fire
and brimstone!
WILES
Sounds like Hades' to me. Look I'll
go down to the Fault and take a look
you can stay here.
BASCO
I thought we were a team. Where you
go I go, what happened?
WILES
We could lose as many as ten thousand
tourists, if we don't do something.
BASCO
(laughing)
Ok you win, we'll go down there. Let's
call the boss, pack our gear and
Mammoth here we come.
CUT TO:
EXT. WHITE MOUNTAIN LABORATORY - DAY - 1130 HR'S
EXT. WHITE MOUNTAIN GEOPHYSICS LABORATORY
Dr.'s BASCO and WILES are starting down the Mountain in
their four wheel drive Ford Explorer when a large deer
rushes in front of the truck. Basco swerves to avoid
hitting it and loses control of the vehicle. The truck
starts to oscillate and as the brakes are applied it goes
over the side of the washboard road and starts to roll down
the mountain. Wiles is thrown clear of the truck and falls
in a clump of Sagebrush. Basco continues down the hill in the
truck. The vehicle is caught in a outcropping of rocks and
is jammed against a large boulder. Wiles gets up and shakes
himself off and hurries down the hill to where Basco is. He
finds Basco still behind the wheel and unhooks his safety
belt and pulls him out through the window. He lays Basco
on the soft pine needles next to a large pine tree.
WILES
(shaking him gently)
Alan, Alan are you ok.
BASCO
(opening his eyes)
I have a headache but I think
that airbag saved my life.
WILES
Stay here, I'm going back to
the lab and get the other truck.
As Wiles starts climbing up the side of the hill, he turns
around and looks back and sees a large silver object landing
in the small meadow.
CUT TO:
EXT. OWENS VALLEY CALIFORNIA - DAY - 1145 HR'S
INT. GOLDSTONE EXECUTIVE CONFERENCE ROOM
Agent's SCOTT and BASSO are reviewing a report FAXED
from the Agent in Charge of the Los Angeles California office.
Scott is holding an eight by ten glossy of a remote Research
Lab in the White Mountains of Nevada.
SCOTT
(studying the picture)
According to the report this is
the White Mountain research Lab.
(hands the picture to Basso)
Looks like a very remote location.
BASSO
The reports says two Scientists are
reported missing from the lab, but
they've an eye witness that places
both of them in Mammoth Lakes
Village yesterday!
SCOTT
Are you familiar with Mammoth Lakes
California?
BASSO
Yes of course, it's one of those
outstanding places to go skiing.
CUT TO:
EXT. MONO COUNTY SHERIFF DEPARTMENT - DAY - NOON
INT. SHERIFF DEPARTMENT OFFICES
Scott and Basso are in conference with Mono County Sheriff
Ed Harris. The Sheriff is a man in his late forties with
a weathered looking face.
HARRIS
Like I said agents Scott and Basso
the agent in charge of the Los Angeles
office called and asked me to check my
county for the two missing scientists.
My people contacted everyone including
the Mammoth Village Police Chief. The
very next day we get a call from the
Mammoth Village Captain of police, saying
Basco and Wiles were spotted at the Long
Valley Airport.
SCOTT
How reliable is the person who made
the ID?
HARRIS
The airport manager spotted them.
SCOTT
Did he talk to them?
HARRIS
Yes he did. And they told him
they were working on a classified
project for the federal government.
BASSO
Did your people bring them in?
HARRIS
Why, they didn't do anything!
SCOTT
Did you notify them that they
were reported missing?
HARRIS
Yes we did, so they were told
to call in.
CUT TO:
EXT. MAMMOTH LAKES CITY - DAY - NOON
INT. MAMMOTH POLICE DEPARTMENT
Scott and Basso are in conference with Captain PAT
MALLORY, a distinguished looking man in his late
forties.
SCOTT
Sheriff Harris said the two missing
scientists were spotted at the Long
Valley Airport.
MALLORY
That's correct, but I also saw them
today at the Mammoth fault.
BASSO
Did you talk to them?
MALLORY
I sure did, and they told me it
was all a mistake.
SCOTT
Do you think they're still there?
MALLORY
I don't know, could be. You want
me to run you up there?
SCOTT
We have to check in at the Mammoth
Village Lodge, or we'll lose the
reservation. Basso, why don't you
take the rental car and check us in
then I'll go with the Captain. What
do you think Basso, do you mind doing
the duty?
BASSO
I want to go with you to the Mammoth
Fault. Captain, will you call the
Hotel and tell them to hold the
reservations until we get back?
MALLORY
No problem.
CUT TO:
EXT. MAMMOTH LAKES FAULT - DAY - NOON
INT. MAMMOTH LAKES FAULT
Scott and Basso are following Mallory into the deeper part
of the fault. Mallory stops and yells deep into the chasm.
MALLORY
(yelling)
Wiles, Basco, ......are
are you in there?
SCOTT
Maybe, there gone.
MALLORY
(yelling louder)
If your in there, speak up.
SCOTT
How deep does this go?
MALLORY
About a mile, straight down.
SCOTT
Basso, why don't you go back to
the car and the Captain and I will
go down a ways, ok?
BASSO
Ok by me, I don't like deep dark
places, I'm more valuable to you
topside.
Basso turns around and Mallory and Scott continue down
into the Abyss with their flashlights.
BASSO
(noticing something in
the sand)
Hello what's this.
(picking up the card
and reading it)
"VIP pass, Jakes Club, Minden".
"Doctor Joseph Wiles".
(smiling)
Well I guess that proves they
were here!
CUT TO:
INT. MAMMOTH LAKES FAULT - DAY - NOON
Scott is following Mallory into the deeper part of the fault.
Mallory stops and points to the bones.
MALLORY
(smiling)
Looks like an animal had
dinner down here last night.
SCOTT
What's that noise?
Scott feels a slight movement and a few small rocks
fall down from the high wall.
MALLORY
I forgot to tell you, we have
small earthquakes up here
all the time.
SCOTT
Are we in any danger?
MALLORY
Only if we have a large one.
SCOTT
Oh really, and what's the
chance of that?
MALLORY
Search me. Look if you think it's
a little to dicey for you we can
go back?
SCOTT
How much farther?
MALLORY
We have about another half mile
to go.
Another large rumble is heard and more rocks come down
from the walls.
MALLORY
On second thought, lets go back.
I'll send my search and rescue
guys in here with their hard-hats.
CUT TO:
EXT. MAMMOTH LAKES FAULT - DAY -NOON
Scott and Mallory exit out of the Fault entrance and see
Basso standing by the Police car. She starts waving to
them and yells at Mallory.
BASSO
Captain, the Fire service is on
your radio, they urgently have
to talk to you.
Mallory runs briskly up to his patrol car. He takes the
mike from Basso. She walks away from the police car and
goes down to meet Scott.
BASSO
Well, did you see them?
SCOTT
Did you feel the earthquakes?
BASSO
Earthquakes, I thought some one
was blasting.
SCOTT
The deeper we went the more
rocks came down with each
quake, so without hard-hats on
the Captain felt he should
send his search and rescue
squad down here.
BASSO
(showing him the card)
Well this proves one of them
was here.
(Scott takes the card
and reads it)
So what now?
SCOTT
Let's go check into the hotel.
Give the Captain a chance to
get his people down there.
BASSO
I'm really hungry. How about
a big steak at the Chart House?
SCOTT
Sounds good to me.
They both get in the Police car and close the doors.
INT. MAMMOTH VILLAGE POLICE CAR
Mallory starts the car and drives down the hill headed for
Mammoth Village. He looks very upset.
SCOTT
What's wrong Captain you look
like you've seen a ghost?
MALLORY
That's the trouble, I have.
BASSO
Excuse me?
MALLORY
That's right, I saw a ghost.
Matter of fact I saw two ghosts!
SCOTT
I don't follow you? What ghosts?
MALLORY
That call was from the U.S. Forest
service. They just found the bodies
of Basco and Wiles up at the White
Mountain Lab. Their truck skidded
off the narrow mountain road and
ended up at the bottom of the hill.
BASSO
Did that happen today?
MALLORY
They said it looks like they've been
there since this morning.
SCOTT
I thought you saw them this morning?
MALLORY
I did!
SCOTT
What did they say?
MALLORY
They said ........ they saw a space ship land in
a large meadow near their lab.
SCOTT
And how did you react to that?
MALLORY
I told them they better lay off the Rye
Whisky!

INT. GOLDSTONE RADIO TELESCOPE OP'S ROOM
Scott and Basso are sitting with Dr's Brady and Hunter
listening to their friend Tara, telling about a recent
meditation with the Aliens.
BRADY
Tara, in conversation have you ever asked
your Alien friends if they believe in God?.
TARA
They call themselves the Elverens and the
they refer to their home as Elveren-7.
HUNTER
Do they believe in God, or a supreme being?
TARA
We had a very long conversation last week
where the topic of conversation was exactly
that.
BASSO
I'm all ears!
TARA
They said a savior was born in Bethlehem of
Judea of a Jewish virgin who spoke Hebrew
or perhaps Aramaic, a Semitic dialect.
He was born into a society where Hebrew
was the common language. The creators
messenger announced to Miriam (Mary)
the mother that the Child about to be born
would save His people Israel from their sins.
His Name, therefore, would literally reflect
this meaning and mission.
SCOTT
Jesus Christ, right!
BASSO
Scott, let her finish, this is really good
stuff to hear this coming from an alien.
TARA
They said whenever people were spoken to
from On High, it was always to those who
were familiar with or spoke the Hebrew
language. Hebrew was spoken in the
Garden of Eden. They said, your Bible is
a Hebrew book, given to spirit-filled
Hebrew writers. The only language spoken
for the first 1757 years until the Tower of
Babel incident was Hebrew.
SCOTT
Well it's comforting to know they are aware
of our bible. I know Basso, let her finish!
TARA
We must conclude, therefore, that Hebrew is
the heavenly language. As you know, Genesis
10:30 reveals that the tribes of Shem did not
join the project at the plains of Shinar
(Genesis 11:2) where the tower of Babel was
built. According to Genesis 10, they dwelled
at Mesha, in the foothills of Mount Sephar.
Their Hebrew language was not changed.
BRADY
Tara, are you Jewish?
TARA
No, I'm Catholic, why?
HUNTER
Don't pay attention to him Tara, he's just
trying to be cute. I swear, the next time you
open your yap I plan to put my shoe in it,
do I make myself clear Dr. Brady!
BRADY
I hear you, loud and clear.
TARA
They said, with all those facts before us,
we must ask, why do our Bibles call the
Savior by the name Jesus which is neither
Jewish nor Hebrew? Jesus has no translation
in any language.
HUNTER
Go ahead Tara, we're with you.
TARA
Why would a Jewish maiden, whose native
tongue was Hebrew, living in a Jewish
community of Hebrews, who had been
addressed by the celestial messenger , give
her newborn a hybrid Latin-Greek name
that carries no such meaning as Savior in
either language? The Greek word for savior
is "soter," while the Latin is "salvare." No
part of this word is found in "Jesus," a name
with no etymological meaning. Recall that
the messenger said His Name would be related
to His purpose as Savior.
SCOTT
So what is Jesus, real name?
TARA
They said, Jesus is not His name, and never was.
They said that the Savior was never called Jesus
in His life! Furthermore, there is not now nor
was there ever an equivalent letter "j" in the
22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Nor is there
any Hebrew letter that carries even an approximate
sound of the consonant letter "j." Neither is there
a letter "j" in the Greek alphabet.
BRADY
Even our English "j" is of recent origin, appearing
in English only 500 years ago, when it often
replaced the letter "i," usually at the beginning of a
word. The question before us is, what was the Savior's
name before there was a letter "j"? For some 1500
years He obviously was called by another name that
could not have contained the letter "j."
TARA
Would His Jewish disciples call Him by a hybrid
Greek-Latin name when the Bible says they
were unlearned and ignorant men?
They were common fishermen who spoke
Hebrew or perhaps the closely related Aramaic
dialect. Their Hebrew speech was then
translated into Greek by linguists who gave us
the record in our Bibles.
BRADY
So, what is Jesus name?
TARA
They say, that the name given from On High
was the Hebrew name "Yahshua, "the same name as the Old Testament son of Nun whom
we know as Joshua.
SCOTT
So what you are saying is that they know more
about the origin of our savior then we know.
TARA
They say Yahshua, is well known through the entire
Galaxy and he has visited other worlds.
BRADY
The Savior clearly avowed, "I am come in my
Father's Name. This passage means that He
carried His Father's Name. Its meaning is not
limited solely to His coming by authority or
command of the Heavenly Father.
TARA
They stated, the Savior's Name essentially is the
same as that of Joshua. Joshua's name originally
was Hoshea, or Hoshua, but Moses had prefixed
the short or poetic form of the sacred Name, Yah,
calling Him Yahoshua, meaning Salvation of Yah.
HUNTER
Wow, have you been able to authentic any of this?
TARA
All of it.
BRADY
Tara, how do they know so much about our Messiah?
TARA
They said it was common knowledge in the Galaxy.
CUT TO:
EXT. MAMMOTH LAKES FAULT - DAY - AFTERNOON
INT. MAMMOTH LAKES FAULT
Scott and Basso are following Mallory into the deeper part
of the fault. Mallory stops and yells deep into the chasm.
They are all wearing hard-hats and have strong flashlights.
MALLORY
(yelling)
Wiles, Basco, ......are
are you in there?
SCOTT
Maybe, there gone.
MALLORY
It's good to see you and Agent Basso again,
I hope you can stay a little longer this time.
Scott and Basso follow Mallory into the deeper part of the fault.
Mallory stops and shines the his flashlight at a bright object
laying in the corner of a large loose rock. He picks it up and
looks at it very closely.
MALLORY (Cont.)
This is a Landsat Locater, and it has some
coordinates punched in, this is Basco's
I remember him showing it to me once
before.
BASSO
Have you ever been to the end of this fault?
MALLORY
Yes, once before when we were looking
for a lost child.
Small rocks start falling down from the top of the ceiling, and
the large crevice turns into a very large cave and the smell of
sulfur fills the air.
MALLORY
Were approaching the sulfur pit so don't
touch anything. In a few minutes we will
go past it.
The walls start to vibrate and larger rocks start falling down. The
stops and brace themselves against the wall of the cave.
SCOTT
Maybe this is not a very good idea. I suffer
from occasional fits of claustrophobia.
Maybe we should try again on a day when
things are more stable down here. (A beat)
How much farther?
MALLORY
About a quarter mile more. Look if you ....
They 're all thrown to the floor of the cave when a large shaking
is felt and more rocks come down.
MALLORY
Look I have an allergy against dust, and this fine
dust is a very fine powdery texture, so yeah
lets try it again in the morning, ok?
SCOTT
We have to go back to Goldstone first thing
in the morning, but we'll come back in a
few days then we'll try it again.

EXT. OWENS VALLEY CALIFORNIA - DAY - 0900 HR'S
INT. GOLDSTONE RADIO TELESCOPE OP'S ROOM
Scott and Basso are sitting with Dr's Brady and Hunter
listening to their friend Tara, telling about a new
development with the Aliens.
BRADY
Tara, I understand the Aliens want to meet us?
TARA
Yes, they want to meet all of you, tonight. Is
that possible?
SCOTT
Of course we will meet them, ...... where do
they want to meet? Here?
TARA
White Mountain Geophysics Lab, tonight at
midnight.
BRADY
Do they want to see all of us?
TARA
My selection and I say all of us.
HUNTER
It sounds like they really trust you, Tara.
SCOTT
(Looking at his map)
It looks like a two hour drive from here,
we should leave as soon as possible. Do
you have a four wheel drive truck we can
borrow, I don't think our Nissan Corolla
will take those kinds of mountains, with
a full load.
BRADY
Goldstone has a Ford Explorer with four
wheel drive we can borrow, ok.
BASSO
Ok Rock and Roll, let's do it!
