PREFACE
The Great Rift Valley Some 25 million years ago two continents, Africa and Eurasia, moving on their respective tectonic plates, collided and recoiled shattering the earth's crust and creating the land feature known as the Great Rift Valley. The valley extends over 6,500 km from the DEAD SEA in the north to BEIRA in the south and varies in width from thirty to ninety kilometers and in depth from a few hundred to several thousand meters, far below sea level. In Kenya the valley is deepest in the hundred and sixty kilometers that run north from Nairobi. Most of the lakes in the Rift, such as LAKE NAKURU are shallow and having no outlet to the sea, are high in mineral content as the evaporation of water leaves salts behind. Nairobi Africa is the center of genetic studies of evolution and Paleontology. It's longed believed that some species became extinct because they were unable to compete for their survival. Or in some cases wiped out by natural disaster or widespread disease. Using the dinosaurs for example, we are still not sure what happened.

LAKE NAKURU AFRICA

6.16.98 EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CALIFORNIA HEAVY RAINSTORM EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP EXT: HIDDEN GLADE 100 YARDS FROM AIRSTRIP A small cabin is hidden in the dense forest. Outside the front of the cabin the words EXPLOSIVES is written in big bold letters. INT: MOUNTAIN "A" FRAME CABIN FILLED WITH HERCULES BOXES A false wall opens and Hamilton is seen coming out of what appears to be the entrance to a mine shaft. He starts talking to himself. HAMILTON Home sweet home! As soon as it stops raining I'll cover the plane with tree branches. He walks back inside the mineshaft. INT: HARDROCK MINESHAFT WITH OVERHEAD LIGHTING Hamilton walks down the length of the shaft which is over a thousand feet. He stops at a small closet where a large iron door is closed with a large padlock. Opens the lock and walks in. The interior is a vary large cavern completely lighted and with a comfort zone temperature. He walks over to a large metal cabinet, opens it exposing four assault rifles. An HK German G3 Select Fire NATO 7.65, a Colt M-16 NATO 5.65 and a AK-47 caliber Russian Short. He pulls out a drawer showing two HK MP5 9 MM Machine guns with silencers. Opens another small cabinet exposing two cases of "Baseball" Hand grenades. He opens a large foot-locker and it's jammed with gas-masks. Another footlocker is opened and a "DRAGUNOV" Sniper Rifle in Russian Long Caliber with silencer. HAMILTON (Smiling) Well, it looks like all my toys are here. So I guess "DICKIE BOY" is ready to play! He enters the main room and a bed, sofa and an array of electronic equipment is shown. A large panel of switches and gauges are turned on. He turns on a switch and a monitor on a computer lights up. He pulls out a drawer keyboard from the desk and pulls out a MOUSE placing it on a mouse-pad. HAMILTON Ok, let's see, where is GALAXY 6, 7, 8 AND 9. He enters access codes and a simulation of GALAXY 6 SATELLITE is shown on the screen. HAMILTON Ok baby I see you. He enters two more access codes and pushes a red button. The simulation shows a change of apogee correction and he locks it in. HAMILTON (Really happy) Oh this is going to be so much fun! CUT TO: EXT: BISHOP CALIFORNIA HEAVY RAINSTORM EXT: BISHOP AIRPORT EXT: MONO COUNTY SHERIFF - AERO SQUAD A large hanger with offices on the first floor is seen at the west side of the airport. INT: SHERIFF AERO SQUAD - CONFERENCE ROOM A meeting is being held with the Mono County Sheriff Department and the FBI. Detective Negrete is present and is acting as Liaison Officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. FBI Agent Travis Ralston opens the meeting with known details of Hamilton's escape route. Ralston is in his early thirties and is an experienced mountaineer. The room is filled with about twenty lawmen. RALSTON We've lost Hamilton. We found his parachute and some of his gear. Our trail dogs followed his scent up to Rock Creek Lake then we lost him. We've had the forest service choppers scour the entire area for 200 square miles and have found nothing. However, we do have something that may be a clue to his current whereabouts. A Cessna Turbo 210 was stolen from Long Valley Airport about an hour after he parachuted out of his plane. Len McGrath the Mono County Sheriff a man in his early fifties, gets Ralston's attention. Ralston points to him. RALSTON Yes, Sheriff McGrath you have something. MC'GRATH We have an eye witness at Long Valley who said he saw Hamilton jumping the fence off of Highway 395 and was headed for the airport. We have started an all points bulletin with the FAA for all airport managers to report this aircraft to the FBI. It's a 1995 Cessna turbo 210 CL48871 all white with a dark blue stripe trim. RALSTON We think he may be headed for BAJA so Sheriff will you please alert the Mexican Police. A tall dark man in a Sheriff Deputy uniform stands up and gets Ralston's attention. TALL DARK MAN Agent Ralston, I'm Deputy Erik Blake and I know all these mountains like the back of my hand. I'm a full-blooded Cheyenne Indian and if I wanted to disappear the quick way would be in the Golden Trout Lakes Wilderness Area. RALSTON Deputy, I've been in that area and it's a real challenge for an experienced mountain man or Native American. It would take him at least two days to get to the Golden Trout lakes from Rock Creek Lakes. BLAKE By air sir, it's twenty minutes in a Turbo 210. RALSTON Deputy, your saying he jumped somewhere in that Wilderness area and let the plane crash. BLAKE No sir, I'm not saying that. We have a list of what was in the stolen aircraft from the owner, Irish Construction and he had no chutes! RALSTON I don't understand? BLAKE My brother and I owned a 1985 Cessna 180, you know a tail dragger. Well sir, when we were off duty, we'd fly up to Monanche Meadows airstrip and spend a couple of days fly fishing for Golden Trout! Ralston swings around and gets Sheriff McGrath's attention. RALSTON Sheriff, can we get one of your SHERIFF AERO SQUAD pilots to take Deputy Blake up to that strip and check the area out? BLAKE The strip is closed sir. McGrath stands up and addresses Ralston and all the other Lawmen. MC'GRATH The US Forest Service closed down the strip last year because we had an attorney crash his late model Cessna 182, he died on impact. His wife is suing the forest service for not maintaining the strip properly. In that area you have daily thunderstorms and large trees are blown down on the strip and it makes for dangerous landings. RALSTON Deputy Blake, when was the last time you saw the Monanche Meadows airstrip? BLAKE About six weeks ago sir. My brother and I flew over it to see if we could squeeze in there. RALSTON And? BLAKE Well sir, there was a large Pine Tree that was blocking the runway about 200 hundred feet from the end of the strip. My brother and I are really good bush pilots and we could get in if it was an emergency, but just to go fishing, it wasn't worth the risk! RALSTON Deputy Blake if you were a fugitive and were running from the law would you chance a landing in that strip? BLAKE I could do it in a Cessna 210! RALSTON Why a Cessna 210? BLAKE Well sir, I would come in against the wind with full flaps and gear down and when I was in ground effect I would retract the gear. RALSTON I don't understand. Why would you retract the landing gear? It doesn't make sense? BLAKE If you have ever seen the gear retract on a Cessna 210, it's the Damn'st thing you ever saw! It looks like a lame duck trying to land in a pond. The gear drops straight down then folds strait back! So in a short field emergency the partially retracted gear would act as an arresting hook and if done properly you would have no problem getting in. RALSON Sheriff McGrath I think Deputy Blake is on to something! MC'GRATH Ok, Ok, when this rain lets up for a few hours, I'll have Eric and one of my AERO SQUAD guys take the chopper up there. RALSTON What is the altitude at Monanche Meadows airstrip Deputy Blake? BLAKE About 11,000 sir, and on a hot day you better know what your doing going in and out of there. We'll take the old HUEY EX-GUNSHIP up there, it's ceiling is about 12,000, we shouldn't have a. problem RALSTON Ok guys let's do it, now we're cooking. But just one thing, this is strictly a reconnaissance mission. I want you to scout around and report back, and under no . . circumstances are you to land and engage the enemy. This man is extremely dangerous, and I want a full complement of the County and Federal people to go in there and get his ass! CUT TO: EXT: ASHFORD WASHINGTON STATE EXT: MOUNT RAINIER - HEAVY SNOW STORM EXT: FIRE DISTRICT 23 A large Forest Service building is seen in the snowstorm and several emergency vehicles are parked in front. INT: FOREST SERVICE OFFICES AND CONFERENCE ROOM A meeting is being held with DAVE BACA, chief administrator for Mount Rainier National Park. He's a young man in his late thirties. He's reviewing the avalanche that happened on Mount Rainier. BACA Seven climbers hit by an avalanche Thursday on Washington's Mount Rainier have been rescued, and two have lost their lives. Several climbers were hurt but none of the injuries are believed to be serious. We believe the two that lost their lives were pushed over a cliff and another was "hanging on a ridge." The climbers were tied together by rope as they ascended the mountain along a route called Disappointment Cleaver. The climbers were at an altitude of about 12,600 feet when they were hit by the avalanche about 2:30 p.m. Another climber with a cell phone reported the incident. The summit of Mount Rainier is 14,400 feet. We have a couple of people on the scene and five other guides who are making their way to that point. Helicopters were trying to reach the avalanche, but bad weather was slowing the rescue effort. The weather is cloudy and overcast. Thunderclouds are coming through. Rob Hart with the state Department of Emergency Management said a rescue party was also on its way to the mountain. One of the CNN News correspondents raises his hand to ask a question. CNN NEWSMAN RANGER BACA, do you have the names of the two men that lost their lives? BACA One was a Professor from the University of Seattle, a John Drew. And the other one was a famous climber from Vancouver, and he's also a very famous Micro-biologist, a Roger Fleming. We have already notified the next of kin. CNN NEWSMAN RANGER BACA, do you have any idea what went wrong? BACA Both men were very experienced climbers but when you have an avalanche like this there is no where to go except under tons of snow. CUT TO: EXT. LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA EXT. UCLA ANTHROPOLOGY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING INT. ANTHROPOLOGY CONFERENCE ROOM Wasser is sitting in his chair in the large office. The secretary has just notified him about the death of his friend and protégé, Roger Fleming. WASSER Thank you Mrs. SMITH for coming down here to tell me about Roger but unfortunately I saw CNN news a few minutes ago. SMITH He was like a son to you wasn't he? WASSER Yes he was, yes he was. She quietly leaves the room and closes the door. WASSER (Talking to himself) I should have told Roger about the ancient curse of desecrating the remains of an Angel. He wouldn't of believed me anyway. He gets out of his chair and walks over to the large liquor cabinet opens the door and takes out his bottle of GLENFIDDICHE SCOTCH. He grabs a glass and drops a few ice cubes in the glass and goes back to his big chair. As he approaches the chair he grabs his chest. He starts coughing and gasping and tries to reach the intercom to get help from Mr.'s Smith, but he doesn't make it. He drops to the floor like a bag of potatoes. He lays on the floor of his study writhing and thrashing and yells. WASSER The Curse oh my god the curse! In a few minutes he's dead. CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CALIFORNIA LIGHT RAIN EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP EXT: DAMAGED CESSNA TURBO 210 Hamilton has spent several hours draining the wing tanks and replacing the fuel with spring water. He's seen placing small explosive charges on the wing roots and wing center section. He also places charges near the aircraft firewall and near the tail cone. He stands back and takes out his detonator and yells. HAMILTON Fire in the hole. The explosive charges are all set off by the detonator receivers. The master is indeed at work as the left and right wing, engine and tail cone break away from the main airframe. He has a block and tackle set up and pulls each section into the woods. When he's finished he takes a large branch and brushes the area of the strip showing landing trace. As he heads for the "A" frame he hears the drone of a heavy chopper and he quickly hides behind a large Pine Tree. He looks up and spots the large HUGHES EX-VIET NAM GUNSHIP. The tips of the main rotor blades are going at the speed of sound and they make a distinctive sound as in WHOMP, WHOMP, WHOMP. HAMILTON Fuck, it's the Mono County Sheriffs department heavy search and rescue chopper. Hamilton runs over to the A Frame Cabin and goes in. He walks over to a large metal cabinet, opens it exposing an M-75 grenade launcher. He slips four rifle grenades into a his jacket pocket. He opens a large foot-locker and removes his DRAGUNOV Sniper Rifle loads it and walks out into the light drizzle. As he looks up into the sky he spots the chopper, at an estimated one-half mile away. He loads a grenade in the launcher and holds it up in a fashion where he can take the Chopper out at anytime.! He waits behind the tree and if it appears they are going to land he will execute all of them. CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CALIFORNIA LIGHT RAIN EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP EXT: LARGE HUEY HELICOPTER INT: HUEY HELICOPTER - PILOT C0-PILOT SECTION Deputy Blake is seen in the chopper scanning the terrain with his field glasses. The Pilot George Drake a young man in his late twenties is keeping the chopper circling the airstrip looking for some kind of recent activity. BLAKE George go around one more time. DRAKE You know Erik, I don't see a damn thing! The chopper is seen circling the airstrip at about five hundred feet above the meadow and trees. BLAKE Damn, I don't see anything, but I've a funny feeling, something is not right! I'm going in the back section and see if I can get a better view. Deputy Blake is seen climbing to the rear of the large chopper. He climbs into the observation chair where the side of the fuselage is open. He careens his head into the airflow of the huge blades. The downdraft is very strong. EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP Hamilton is still hiding behind a large pine tree waiting to destroy the chopper if necessary. He closes his eyes. CLOSE UP OF HAMILTONS FACE A tear is seen coming out of his right eye and he grimaces. HAMILTON Fuck, this reminds me of NAM, the sound of the big HUEY BLADES, WHOMP, WHOMP, WHOMP. INT: HUEY HELICOPTER - PILOT C0-PILOT SECTION Blake is seen climbing back into the co-pilot seat engaging the large shoulder harness, he buckles in. He places his helmet back on his head and adjusts the microphone and speaks. BLAKE George, there is something wrong down there. A very heavy smell of AV GAS is in the air. Not JP-5 like the Jet fuel on this chopper but Aviation Gas, like someone has drained a hundred gallons of fuel down there in the meadow area! DRAKE (Laughing) Yeah, a big Elk took a piss. Come on Erik, let's go home, there is nothing down there. BLAKE George, drop me off at that large clearing by Little Golden Trout Lake, it's about three miles from here due south-west. Then go back and tell the Sheriff I need a few more hours in this area. You can come and pick me up before dark. I'll take my radio so I can keep in touch with you from the air when you pick me up later. DRAKE I don't mind telling you Erik, but this is not a good thing you are doing! BLAKE George, don't be an old grandma, I'll be fine. DRAKE Ok, at least take the M-16 with you and the combat vest. This way if he's down there you will be able to engage him with something more than a S&W 44 magnum. The vest has at least 400 rounds. Take two of the BANDOLIERS, that will give you another four hundred rounds. BLAKE Anything else mother? How about a warm jacket and mittens? DRAKE Don't get cute. Take the canteen, K-rations and the VARY PISTOL and a hand full of flares. The chopper arrives at the drop off point and the aircraft hovers a few feet from the wide area of the upper Kings River where at one time a large amount of water has carved a section of a small hill and made it flat. Deputy Blake jumps out and waves Drake off. The chopper rises and is seen going down the canyon with it's familiar WHOMP, WHOMP, WHOMP! CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CALIFORNIA - LIGHT RAIN EXT: GOLDEN TROUT LAKES WILDERNESS AREA Deputy Blake is seen in FULL BATTLE GEAR working himself down a mountain trail heading for the Monanche Meadows airstrip. CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CALIFORNIA LIGHT RAIN EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP Hamilton is seen standing next to a large pine tree. HAMILTON Fuck, why didn't they land? Something doesn't smell right in Denmark. CUT TO: EXT: BISHOP CALIFORNIA EXT: BISHOP AIRPORT EXT: MONO COUNTY SHERIFF - AERO SQUAD A large hanger with offices on the first floor is seen at the west side of the airport. INT: SHERIFF AERO SQUAD - CONFERENCE ROOM A meeting is being held with the Mono County Sheriff and the FBI. Agent Travis Ralston has been told by Sheriff McGrath that Deputy Blake is at Monanche Meadows. RALSTON Sheriff, if Deputy Blake finds no trace of the Cessna 210 at Monanche Meadows, then we need to look elsewhere. Agent Troy Hudson walks into the room and gets Ralston's attention. Ralston points to him. RALSTON Yes, Agent Hudson? HUDSON (Excited) We've received pictures from Pan Am Sat that Galaxy 9 a Geo Synchronous Satellite photographed a Cessna 210 CL48871 all white with a dark blue stripe trim at Monanche Meadows. It was taken one hour after the Cessna was stolen from Long Valley Airport. RALSTON Sheriff McGrath said the chopper pilot found no trace of an aircraft at Monanche Meadows. HUDSON (Hands the pictures to Ralston) Take a look sir. RALSTON (Looking at the pictures) Sheriff McGrath I want you to get your men and mine in that chopper and get over to Monanche Meadows right now. I believe Deputy Blake is in serious danger! Deputy Hudson call the US Forest service and get one of their Large Fire Service Hueys so we can get more people to Monanche Meadows. CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CALIFORNIA - LIGHT RAIN EXT: GOLDEN TROUT LAKES WILDERNESS AREA Deputy Blake is seen hiding in a fern glade using his field glasses to watch the area around the Monanche Meadows airstrip. BLAKE Ok, Hamilton I know you're in there somewhere! CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CALIFORNIA LIGHT RAIN EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP Hamilton is seen sitting under a large pine tree. HAMILTON I know there's somebody out there. CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - LIGHT RAIN EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP EXT: LARGE HUEY HELICOPTER COMING INTO VIEW INT: HUEY HELICOPTER - PILOT C0-PILOT SECTION Deputy Bill Fish the Sheriff SWAT Leader is seen sitting next to the pilot in the co-pilot chair. He is scanning the local terrain with his field glasses. The Pilot is keeping the chopper circling the airstrip looking for some kind of recent activity. Deputy Fish is a Sargent and has three tours of NAM as a combat Special Forces Group Specialist. FISH George go around one more time. DRAKE You know Fish, I don't see a damn thing! The chopper is seen circling the airstrip at about five hundred feet above the meadow and trees. SWAT Leader Fish is seen climbing to the rear of the large chopper. He climbs into the observation chair where the side of the fuselage is open. He looks in the passenger section of the chopper and sees his three SWAT Deputy's and three SWAT FBI members. He looks hard at his men and addresses them. FISH Ok, Guys. George is going to set the chopper down and when we make contact with the ground I want everybody out. Get away from the chopper as soon as possible. The chopper is the largest target for the fugitive, so what I'm saying is split for cover chop, chop, RIKY-TICKY-TICKY. EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP Hamilton is still hiding behind a large pine tree. He heard the noise of the blades three minutes before it came into view. He's now waiting to destroy the chopper if necessary. He closes his eyes. CLOSE UP OF HAMILTONS FACE HAMILTON Fuck, back to Viet NAM, the sound of the big HUEY BLADES, WHOMP, WHOMP, WHOMP. INT: HUEY HELICOPTER Deputy Pilot George Drake is seen waiting for instructions from Deputy Fish. DRAKE Bill, you want me to put it down? FISH Ok, everybody take your M-16 with you and two BANDOLIERS. I'll take the tear gas rifle grenades and somebody grab the LANSAT communicator. The chopper continues to hover over the field. FISH (Shouts at Drake) Ok George put her down and when everyone is out get back to Bishop. The chopper arrives at the drop off point and the aircraft hovers a few feet from the wide area of the Monanche Meadows airstrip. Deputy Fish jumps out and waves quickly to his men and they follow. The chopper rises and is starting down the canyon with it's familiar WHOMP, WHOMP, WHOMP! CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP Hamilton is seen standing next to a large pine tree. He's holding a "DRAGUNOV" Sniper Rifle with scope and silencer. He aims for the tail propeller section and in three silent shots destroys it. The craft immediately loses control and comes crashing down into the trees. In a few minutes later a huge explosion is heard and a large fireball rises where the chopper came down. HAMILTON Ok babies, it's time to die! The deputies and agents are caught by surprise when the chopper came down and are standing in the open space of the mountain airstrip. Knowing that they're all wearing bullet proof vests Hamilton decides on head shots. Like Gary Cooper in Sargent York he makes a noise like a wild turkey and the men who had their back to him now turn around and face him. In four successive shots the FBI Agents and Sheriff deputies go down. Team leader Fish yells at his men. FISH HIT THE DECK, HIT THE DECK!! But too late, Hamilton puts down two more. HAMILTON That leaves just you and me FUCKER! CUT TO: EXT: BISHOP AIRPORT INT: SHERIFF AERO SQUAD - CONFERENCE ROOM Agent Troy Hudson walks into the room and gets Ralston's attention. RALSTON Yes, Agent Hudson? Do you have my new pictures of Monanche Meadows! HUDSON (Very Upset) We've received updated pictures from the Galaxy 9 Satellite that photographed the Cessna 210 at Monanche Meadows. The plane is gone! RALSTON (Pissed) The Cessna has been moved? In just Less than 12 hours the plane has been moved? HUDSON Yes sir, it appears he's flown the coop! RALSTON Shit, doesn't anything go right! HUDSON More bad news sir, the satellite picked up what appears to be the wreckage of a large HUEY about one hundred yards from Monanche Meadows! RALSTON (Really pissed) Is it ours? HUDSON We can't tell sir, it's too badly burned. RALSTON (Sizzling) Then how in the fuck do you know it's a large HUEY? HUDSON The Rotor blades sir, did not burn! CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP Hamilton is seen holding his Sniper Rifle which he has trained on SWAT member Fish. He's waiting for Fish to move so he can take him out! Fish is laying flat behind a small outcropping of sage grass and the only thing visible from Hamilton's viewpoint is one of his boots. He carefully aims for the boot and in one silent shot destroys it. Deputy Fish screams with pain and lays motionless. HAMILTON Oh, I'm sorry Deputy, I was aiming for your boot, when this is over I will help you look for your foot! Deputy Blake is watching the massacre and has been helpless to support anyone. He leaves the glade area and works himself down behind where Hamilton is standing. Blake places his M16 near a tree and takes out his Smith & Wesson 44 magnum. He moves within ten feet of Hamilton having his handgun trained on Hamilton in a combat stance. In one quick move Hamilton snaps around and tries to fire a round at Blake, but the scope gets in the way. Blake fires a shot from his 44 Magnum and sees the round hit Hamilton in his right hand, blowing two fingers off and the rifle out of his hands. BLAKE Move one inch and I'll blow your head off! HAMILTON Fuck you TONTO! Deputy Blake walks around the back of Hamilton and one swift kick bolts him down on his face. Placing one of his large boots in the center of his spine he yells. BLAKE Put both of you hands behind your head or I'll blow the remaining hand off! HAMILTON When I get up REDMAN, I'm taking your fucking scalp! Hamilton has both arms at his side with one hand bleeding profusely. He makes no move to place his hands behind his head. Blake places his boot on the bleeding hand and pushes down hard. BLAKE This is the last time I'm going to tell you to place your hands behind your head. HAMILTON Or what? BLAKE If you don't do what I say, I will shoot off one of your balls with my 44 magnum! Very slowly Hamilton moves the one free hand behind his head. Blake reaches down and cuffs him, then in one quick movement yanks his arm back to meet the other hand and he cuffs that hand. Seeing that Hamilton is completely restrained he walks over to where Deputy Fish is laying who has been watching the entire ordeal. FISH (Smiling) Erik, you're a sight for sore eyes! CUT TO: EXT: BISHOP AIRPORT INT: SHERIFF AERO SQUAD - CONFERENCE ROOM FBI Agent Hudson is on the phone with PANAMSAT Company trying to get updated pictures from the Galaxy 9 satellite. He pauses for a minute and looks at Ralston. RALSTON So what did they say Agent Hudson? When do I get my next set of pictures of Monanche Meadows! HUDSON (Very Upset) I just talked to the head of satellite operations at PANAMSAT and now we have another problem. RALSTON (Pissed) The Cessna is back? HUDSON No sir, it appears someone has changed the path and orbit of Galaxy 9 and the new photographs are covering the Pacific Coast. RALSTON Shit, what next! In a fit of rage Field Agent in charge Ralston throws his can of Diet Coke at the marking board. HUDSON More bad news sir, the Forest service just called and all of their choppers are being used in a big burn in HUMBOLT COUNTY. RALSTON (Really pissed) I guess that just about does it? HUDSON Sir, I was able to get a five man chopper from the Carson City Police Department but it'll take at least two hours before they can get it down here. RALSTON (Sizzling) Do we have any volunteers to go with me when the chopper gets here? NEGRETE I'll go with you Agent Ralston! RALSTON (Looking at McGrath) Sheriff? SHERIFF MC'GRATH I'm sorry Agent Ralston but I can't spare any more of my people until I get the State Police to come down here and cover me. RALSTON I guess it's just you and me Detective Negrete! CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP Hamilton is seen laying on his stomach in a batch of mud from the last rain. Blake has made Fish comfortable in a small wooded area. BLAKE Fish, the wound is not that bad. Hamilton's round took off most of your boot but the steel tipped toe saved your foot. You lost part of your little toe, and under the circumstances you came out alright. I taped the remaining part of your severed toe to the rest of your toes to stabilize it. Lucky your not a bleeder! FISH Thanks Erik, you saved my life. Hamilton is laying on the ground about a hundred yards from the two lawmen. The rain has started again making Hamilton a blur from where they're sitting. He's under a tremendous amount of pain as he's forcing the handcuff over the area where part of his hand is missing. This causes the hand to bleed even more but the cuff is almost off his hand. When he finally gets it off he rolls over on his back. He gets up on all fours and crawls out of the area and into the woods. He's seen disappearing through some heavy underbrush. HAMILTON (O.S.) Now I know what it feels like when a Wild Fox chews his foot off to get out of a steel trap! SNAP CUT: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - HEAVY RAIN Deputy Blake has found the "A" Frame Cabin marked Explosives and is opening the lock with his LOCK-PIK. Opening the door he sees all the cases of Hercules Explosives. BLAKE If we get hit by lightening, I'll see all my ancestors sooner than I planned! Blake is seen helping Deputy Fish inside the Cabin, Blake closes the door and they both sit down on the sawdust floor. FISH Shit Erik, you took me from the safety of the trees to a cabin full of explosives? BLAKE We can handle the rain but your injured foot can't! FISH What about Hamilton? BLAKE What about him? FISH (Smiling) If he drowns out there, we won't be able to shoot him later! BLAKE (Laughing) Yes, that would be unfortunate if we couldn't let him escape later, then shoot him in the back! FISH (Still smiling) Erik, I had no idea you had a sense of humor! The door slams open and Hamilton is standing there holding Erik's M16. HAMILTON Surprise, surprise, FUCKERS! Well now, did I break up anything important between the Lone Ranger and Tonto! CUT TO: EXT: BISHOP AIRPORT INT: SHERIFF AERO SQUAD - CONFERENCE ROOM FBI Agent in charge Ralston and Detective Negrete are waiting for the Bell Jet Ranger Chopper to come down from Carson City Nevada. RALSTON By the time the chopper gets here, Hamilton will be in BAJA, and if we have any survivors from the crashed HUEY they will die of exposure! A chopper is heard overhead and it lands at the Heliport. Hudson runs into the room and reports to Ralston. HUDSON Sir, the chopper from Carson City is here and guess what the pilot is some good looking chick! RALSTON Oh, how nice! Ok Hudson, we need all the help we can get so guess what, you're going with us, so saddle up! CUT TO: INT: HARDROCK MINESHAFT WITH OVERHEAD LIGHTING Deputies Blake and Fish are tied up in wood chairs in the main room next to a bed, sofa and an array of electronic equipment. HAMILTON (Smiling) Well, now that you guys are nice and cozy I want to welcome you to my humble abode! FISH Did you bury my men? HAMILTON Of course I did, I'm not without feelings for my fellow human beings. FISH Why did you have to kill them? HAMILTON Hey, you guys came to kill me, I just hit first, all is fair in love and war! FISH So how soon before you kill us? HAMILTON Unfortunately I only have plans to kill you. Tonto has had enough torture in his life from the white man so when I leave, I'll just cut him loose. CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS LIGHT RAIN EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP EXT: BELL JET RANGER HELICOPTER INT: BELL HELICOPTER - PILOT C0-PILOT SECTION Agent Ralston is seen in the chopper scanning the terrain with his field glasses. The Pilot JANE SMITH a young lady in her late twenties is keeping the chopper circling the airstrip looking for some kind of recent activity. RALSTON Ms Smith, please go around one more time. NEGRETE You know Agent Ralston, I don't see a damn thing! The chopper is seen circling the airstrip at about five hundred feet above the meadow and trees. They're all armed with M16's with grenade launchers. RALSTON Ok, Ms Smith put us down then go park the chopper close by until we call you to pick us up. About two miles west is nice flat spot on the edge of the Kings River where you can put it down with no problems. If you don't hear from us within an hours time, don't come back here, just go home. The chopper arrives at the drop off point and the aircraft hovers a few feet from the surface of the airstrip. Agents Ralston and Hudson jump out then are followed by Detective Negrete. On the ground Ralston waves her off. The chopper rises and is seen going down the canyon. RALSTON Ok guys let's kick ass! CUT TO: INT: HARDROCK MINESHAFT AT MONANCHE MEADOWS Hamilton is monitoring the arrival of the lawmen, delighted how quickly they disperse once on the ground. HAMILTON (Smiling) Well, isn't this nice, everyone is coming to my party! He looks at a lighted grid showing locations of explosive charges he planted that afternoon. HAMILTON Surprise, surprise, surprise! He observes Agent Hudson near one of the locations marked with an X. He pushes a red button on the console and the charge goes off, it accomplishes the same thing a CLAYMORE Mine does. The explosion blow off both of his legs and some of the shrapnel hits his face killing him instantly. Both Ralston and Negrete hit the dirt and are motionless. Hamilton turns on his Public Address Microphone and speaks to his guests. HAMILTON (PA) Good afternoon gentlemen, as you can see I have that entire field mined and if you do exactly as I say, your life will be spared. CLOSE ON RALSTON RALSTON Ok, do as he says Detective Negrete, I can't afford to lose any more people on this case. HAMILTON Ok, listen carefully. One of you disarm the other and place his handcuffs on. Then drop your weapons and hold your hands folded behind your head. Ralston disarms Blake and cuffs him, then places his M16 down on the wet grass. Places his hands behind his head. HAMILTON Very good, now walk towards my voice. They end up in front of the cabin and the door opens. Hamilton comes out and cuffs Ralston and leads them into the mineshaft. CUT TO: INT: HARDROCK MINESHAFT Deputies Blake and Fish are tied up in wood chairs in the main room. Hamilton walks into the room with his two hostages. HAMILTON (Smiling) Well, I thought you guys were lonely so I brought you two more cowboys! I had three but he had an unfortunate accident. RALSTON You didn't have to kill him you piece of shit! Hamilton walks up to Ralston and places his 9MM pistol with silencer to his temple. HAMILTON Now what did you call me? RALSTON You heard me. I called you A piece of fucking dog shit, you don't scare me! Hamilton places his open hand next to the pistol to prevent some of the blood and brain material from spraying in his face and pulls the trigger. The round explodes on the side of Ralston's head exiting on the other side of the cranium, spraying blood and brain material on the two deputies. He drops like a sack of potatoes hitting the rock floor. HAMILTON Shit, now look at the mess I'll have to clean up! Anyone else in this room want to call me any more names? A beat. Ok well now it's clean up time. CUT TO: EXT: BELL JET RANGER HELICOPTER - KING RIVER SANDBAR INT: BELL HELICOPTER - PILOT SECTION Pilot Smith is seen looking at her watch. She places her helmet back on and adjusts the microphone and speaks. SMITH Agent Ralston, it's been over an hour, do you want me to come in and pick you guys up? Over? (She tries again) Agent Ralston, do you want me to come in and pick you up? Over? SMITH We must be out of range. Looks like I'll have to go check this out. CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CABIN Hamilton has just finished burying the body of Agent Ralston. He hears the sound of a helicopter coming up the canyon so he hides behind some trees. The chopper comes into view the it hovers and comes to rest on the airstrip. The chopper is shut down and a young lady climbs out and starts calling Ralston. SMITH Agent Ralston! HAMILTON (Disguising his voice) Over her dear, come over here! SMITH What's wrong, remember you were going to call me. HAMILTON (Jumping out from behind tree) Hello my dear, have you come to join my party? CUT TO: INT: HARDROCK MINESHAFT Deputies Blake and Fish and Detective Negrete are tied up in wood chairs in the main room. Hamilton walks into the room with his new hostage. HAMILTON (Smiling) Hi guys, look what I found outside, waiting for me. I will never have to worry about sleeping alone again! SMITH Over my dead body! HAMILTON That can be arranged. SMITH Where's Ralston and Hudson. HAMILTON They met with an unfortunate accident. SMITH You shot them? Seeing another execution in the making Deputy Fish speaks up. FISH Ms Smith, shut up or he will execute you right here and now! HAMILTON Good work Deputy Fish, you saved her life. So you guys don't get bored I have a surprise for you. I hope you like games. This game is called Dead-Mans Switch. CUT TO: EXT: BELL JET RANGER HELICOPTER - MONANCHE MEADOWS INT: BELL HELICOPTER - STORAGE SECTION Pilot Smith is seen handcuffed to one of the landing bars on the chopper skids. She appears restless, bored and pissed but is trying to keep her mouth shut. Hamilton is loading the chopper with all his toys. He's having difficulty finding a place for his LAW Rocket Launcher. SMITH Where are we going Mr. Hamilton? HAMILTON Ms. Smith, you don't have to call me Mr. Hamilton. Look we're going to spend a lot of time together so forget the formal crap. Call me Richard and I'll call you Jane, ok? . SMITH How about TARZAN AND JANE? Hamilton is studying the expression on her face and has determined she has reached her limit which is very little. HAMILTON If you are curious if I need you for anything, the answer is that I don't! I have over 5,000 hours in a chopper of this model. If your curious if I need you for any lovemaking, I don't. I need a little more than just a young lady for my limited lovemaking and with your personality and charisma which I find as little or none, I would rather make love to a small horse. She looks at him with glaring eyes and is now biting her tongue and sitting on her one free hand. HAMILTON Also, if your thinking how much crap I can take from you before I give your fucking brains a vacation away from your skull, your right it's not much. Last, If you think I will lose any sleep over fucking you up, your right absolutely right, I wont! Any questions? SMITH No, I think you have answered most of them RICHARD. HAMILTON Ok, sit tight, I have to go take care of small chore. He heads for the cabin and places the LAW Rocket on the wet grass. CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CABIN INT: HARDROCK MINESHAFT Deputies Blake and Fish and Detective Negrete are tied up in wood chairs in the main room. Hamilton walks into the room with a box of electronic gear. HAMILTON (Smiling) Hi guys, are you ready to play my game? Ok now here's the rules. SNAP CUT: EXT: BELL JET RANGER HELICOPTER - MONANCHE MEADOWS INT: BELL HELICOPTER - COCKPIT Pilot Smith is seen handcuffed to one of the overhead handles. She appears pissed but is keeping her mouth shut. Hamilton has cuffed Negrete to the overhead handles in the rear passenger compartment. He looks like he's crucified.Hamilton has placed a tight gag in his mouth. HAMILTON Are you two curious why Tonto is sitting in that chair outside the cabin holding something in his hand? SMITH Ok, what's he doing? HAMILTON He's playing a game with his friend Deputy Fish. He's holding a tension Grip that if released A detonator will fire in two pounds of C4 inside the mineshaft, thus burying all the evidence for ever. SMITH Where is Deputy Fish? HAMILTON Unfortunately the two pounds of C4 is located under Deputy Fish's chair. SMITH How long will he be able to hold the grip before he has to let it go? HAMILTON From one to two hours. SMITH Why didn't you just shoot him? HAMILTON That's not in the game rules. Ok, everyone have their seat belts on? It's time to rock and role! SMITH So after Deputy Blake lets go, the C4 charge destroys the mineshaft and Deputy Fish. So What happens to Deputy Blake? HAMILTON It depends on Blake. If he lets the Pressure go on the dead mans switch in less than an hour, only Fish dies. If he waits for more than an hour than the timing setup sets off a charge under Blake's chair also. SMITH I don't understand? HAMILTON The Native Americans have been abused by the white man since day one. So this is get even time where he can destroy one of the white men, which is nothing against Deputy Fish because he is only symbolic in this game. Payback's a real bitch! Hamilton starts the Bell Jet Ranger and rotates the throttle grip and lifting the collective stick the chopper rises and sits in ground effect for a few minutes, then it lifts off and is seen going down the canyon. CUT TO: : INT: HARDROCK MINESHAFT - MONANCHE MEADOWS AIRSTRIP Deputy Fish is tied to a wood chair in the main room. Hamilton has rigged an explosive charge under his chair. He's rocking his chair back and forth and finally it Comes crashing down breaking one side of the chair on the rock floor. He twists and jolts the piece of wood from his side freeing him from the chair Hamilton has cuffed him with his hands behind him and also has placed restraints on his ankles. He sees the red light blinking on the detonator attached to the two pounds of C4 and he backs away from the explosive. He starts to hip hop to the entrance of the mine shaft. CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CABIN Deputy Blake is seen siting on the wood chair, handcuffed with leg restraints. He hears the sound of the helicopter leaving the canyon so he sits quietly. The chopper comes into view as it does a low pass over the airstrip. BLAKE (Talking to himself) Well, if I wait more than an hour I get shit canned, or I do it now and my life is spared. EXT: FIREBASE GRAY, BEN SON, JUNE 1969 FLASHBACK Deputy Blake has lapsed into a stupor and the sound of the chopper leaving the canyon brings back memories of his tour in VIET NAM. The noise of the chopper is fading but the flashback comes into view Sergeant Erik Blake tied up next to a very large Giant Bamboo plant. He watches as the Viet Cong drag the Thais behind a 3/4 ton truck into the fire-base. The bodies were pulled by cords that were tied to the feet and the heads lolled in the dust. The Viet Cong then dragged the trussed bodies by hand across the stretch of ground between the BERM and the radio hooch and deposited them in front of the Viet Cong major. He stood with his hands on his hips, silent for a while. Then he gave a nod of approval to the small crowd of Viet Cong and strode into the hooch. There were three, all bedraggled, half naked and covered with dust and blood. One of their heads had hit a large stone in the road and had broken open like a ripe coconut with the brains exposed and part of them spilling out in the dirt. They were very young, their straight black hair disheveled, and one of them had a gaping hole where his left eye should have been. BLAKE Oh God, why, why! For all intents they could just be three youths lying peacefully on the ground together, until closer examination revealed small holes clotted with blood and lumps of flesh riddling the bodies. Small holes, neat and carefully drilled here and there on the chest, one or two on the arms and legs, and the faces, except for the one virtually untouched, the eyes cloudy and half closed. There were three weapons displayed in front of me. One was an AK-47, the standard assault rifle of the NVA, another a rather battered CHICOM rifle, and the third a most unusual M-16 with a grenade launcher. In accordance with Viet Cong traditions, the bodies were dropped at the corners of the fire-base outside the wire a practice intended to keep the ghosts of the dead men earthbound to ward off future Tai attacks. One was dropped just in front of Blake. For days afterwards he could catch the sickly sweet scent of decay in the evening breeze. For the next three weeks Blake had to eat his meals while smelling the rotting human being. CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS CABIN BLAKE (Talking to himself) Oh God, I feel so helpless! Oh God Fish What shall I do! He glances at his watch again and sees the time and knows he has less than two minutes before he passes the point of no return. He shows great trauma and continues to talk to himself, closing his eyes he begins to cry. BLAKE (Talking to himself) Oh God, I feel so helpless! Oh God Fish What shall I do! Deputy Fish has hopped his way to the entrance of the mine shaft and is now standing in the opening hops around the entrance and falls on the soft grass. Blake opens his eyes and seeing Deputy Fish outside the mineshaft he lets go of the dead man switch and rolls off the chair. A tremendous explosion is heard and in a few seconds dust ground rock and large boulders are thrown out the entrance. After the dust settles, Fish sees Blake laying in the soft grass. He gets up again and hops over to Blake's side and drops down near the chair and with his teeth he pulls the detonator out of the blocks of C4. BLAKE (Traumatized) Thanks Fish you saved my life! CUT TO: EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS LIGHT RAIN EXT: MONANCHE MEADOWS - MOUNTAIN AIRSTRIP EXT: BELL JET RANGER HELICOPTER INT: BELL HELICOPTER - PILOT C0-PILOT SECTION Hamilton is seen piloting the chopper while Smith is looking at the terrain as he's threading the chopper through the deep canyon. SMITH Richard, why are you going south. NEGRETE What do you want me to do follow 395 so all the lawmen can see me! The storm ceiling is starting to lower and some of the peaks are now obscured. SMITH Ok, but what happens if we end up under the ceiling inside of a box canyon at 130 knots! The chopper arrives at the ridge level and the aircraft hits down drafts and updrafts. Within fifty feet from the surface of a ridge the chopper hits a heavy down draft with the speed showing 190 to 200 knots and the vertical lift instrument showing a 1000 ft per second drop. Hamilton gets the chopper under control and the craft is stabilized. The chopper rises and is seen going down the canyon. SMITH If you go due west from here you may be able to squeeze through the Mineral King Pass and that will place you in Sequoia and your home free. Hamilton smiles at Smith and shakes his head. HAMILTON Jane, I'm very pleased, that's an excellent idea. He removes the handcuffs from Smiths right hand. She rubs her wrist and stares at Hamilton. SMITH You going to shoot me now? HAMILTON Heavens no, I'm going to let you fly from here to the coast. It looks like I will have to lighten the load so we can make it over the next ridge. What do you think Jane. Should 200 pounds do it? SMITH All those guns you placed in the storage compartment probably weigh 200 pounds. Hamilton turns around and looks at Negrete. HAMILTON I looked at your ID NEGRETE and you weigh 205 pounds. (Laughing) Jane slow down to under a hundred knots so when I throw PANCHO out he wont get hurt as bad. Hamilton climbs in the rear of the chopper and removes the handcuff from the overhead handle freeing Negrete's left hand pulls it around Negrete's back and cuffs him to his own belt. He leaves the blindfold on Negrete while he frees the right hand from the overhead handle. In one quick move Negrete lunges at Hamilton, rips off his blindfold and places his free hand on Hamilton's throat, wedging him against the door. HAMILTON (Screaming) Goddamn you Negrete I should have killed you back at the mine shaft. Smith reaches around her seat and opens the outer door. The buffeting tips the chopper and Smith maintains control. They're now in another downdraft tipping the chopper nose down and the vertical down is two thousand feet per second. The craft goes in a deep dive in a counter rotation and the force opens the door and in one quick move Negrete secures his dangling handcuff on a lower handle and at the same time pushing Hamilton out the door. Hamilton goes out and he leaps at the skid bars and is able to hang on. AERIAL SHOT The chopper is out of control and Hamilton is seen hanging from the skids of the chopper. Smith is trying to maintain control but fails as the chopper clips some pine trees and loses part of the rear control blades. The chopper crashes into a grove of birch trees which cushions the impact causing less damage to the airframe. The chopper comes to a stop flinging Hamilton into bulrushes next to a small stream. A thunder cloud is passing and heavy rain starts. CLOSE ON CHOPPER COCKPIT Smith is seen with an abrasion on her left arm and a small cut on her face, but appears to be in good shape. She unhooks her shoulder harness and falls through the open door into the sandy shore of the small stream. CLOSE ON SMITH Smith lays there for a few minutes in the driving rain. She finally gets up and stumbles back to the chopper in search of Negrete. She pulls open the rear door and finds he's unconscious but alive and breathing. She remembers Hamilton placing a 9MM BERETTA Pistol in the floor compartment on the pilots side. She pulls open the small door and removes the pistol. She chambers a round and finds one is ejected in the process indicating it was already loaded with one in the chamber. The chopper landed right side up so most of the Plexiglas is still intact. She gets in and closes the door. The driving rain obscures the surrounding terrain and she's unable to find Hamilton dead or alive. She locks all the doors and falls asleep with the pistol in her hand. CUT TO: EXT. LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA EXT. UCLA ANTHROPOLOGY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING INT. ANTHROPOLOGY CONFERENCE ROOM Professor DUNCAN REYES a tall slender man in his middle fifties is the Director of African Antiquities at UCLA is visited by ASHOK BELIZ Curator Emeritus from Nairobi Africa. BELIZ Thank you Professor Reyes for seeing me on such a short notice and for also permitting me to recover one of our antiquities. It's unfortunate what happened to Dr's Wasser and Fleming. As you know my country will only permit it's treasures to be removed for ninety days then they must be returned. REYES Of course, I understand, but tell me it's somewhat of a mystery to us what this find was. Can you tell us a little about it. We've had reports that this species of man had a curse attached so at this time it's an unknown to us. BELIZ The Curse oh, yes the curse! Lets see where shall I begin. REYES At the beginning of course. BELIZ The Legend goes that PHELAN was a high priest 2,000 years ago. One of his most nastiest deeds was the conspiracy to kill all the early Christians. The story goes that a young man mysteriously appeared to him one day and identified himself as an Angel of God. They were all convinced this person was a charlatan. When told he was to be executed he said that when an angel of god is destroyed a curse will be bestowed onto them by God. REYES Yes, I remember reading about him but I think it was under another name. BELIZ He had many names, some people of his time thought he was the ANTI-CHRIST! Anyway they executed him the next day. The entire kingdom was cursed and slowly but surely everyone started to perish. PHELAN was worried about his family and when convinced the curse would get him he and his 60 wives escaped to an area of south Africa which is now Nairobi. REYES Sixty wives, he was a real glutton wasn't he? BELIZ Yes he was. But the cursed killed all of them. The PHELAN family tomb was accidentally discovered by workers constructing a road in a park just south of LAKE NAKURU. Archaeologists were called to the scene and found 12 ossuaries containing the remains of 63 individuals. REYES Were 60 of them female? BELIZ Yes, 60 females, two Guards and of course PHELAN himself. The documents found indicated the young man who said he was an Angel had six fingers and six toes. They never found the remains of this person until Dr's Wasser and Fleming found him. The curse states, a calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom, a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you. After this an angel will come down from heaven and he will have great authority, and the earth will be illuminated by his splendor. Therefore in one day plagues will overtake us, death, mourning and famine. REYES Do you know what the Angels name was? BELIZ We believe it's ABBADON THE ARCHANGEL OF ARMAGEDDON! REYES Oh my! BELIZ There is a verse on ABBADON that goes like this, The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. Their hair was like women's hair, and their teeth were like lion's teeth. They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. They had tails and stings like scorpions. They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is ABBADON, and in Greek, APOLLYON. We want to re-bury him hoping this will break the curse. REYES I thought CHARON was the ARCHANGEL OF ARMAGEDDON? BELIZ The ELOHITE CHARON is the Archangel of Death. He was not the original Archangel of Death, but came into being when AZRAEL, the original Archangel of Death, underwent an unknown change and disappeared from Heavenly society. Never quite popular with the others CHARON does not have great relations with most of the other major Archangels. REYES Where does this leave us? BELIZ The document says the finding of ABBADON will signal the start of Armageddon! Cut to: EXT: MINERAL KING PASS - SEQUOIA EXT: KINGS RIVER EXT: CRASHED HELICOPTER INT: BELL HELICOPTER - PILOT C0-PILOT SECTION The storm ceiling has lowered and all of the peaks are now obscured Smith has been sleeping but awakes in a start when she hears a scraping noise. SMITH What the hell is that! Hamilton's face is seen through the Plexiglas window showing several gashes on his face bleeding and soaked in mud. It appeared he has a broken arm. HAMILTON (Determined) Jane, open the door, I need to talk to you. Smiths shows him the pistol in her right hand. She shakes her head as in no. SMITH (Pissed) Go away, I don't want to have to shoot you! HAMILTON (Desperate) If you help me I will give you a million dollars. SMITH I don't trust you, it's probably a trick! Hamilton looks in the rear and sees Negrete. HAMILTON Is he dead or alive? SMITH He's unconscious. HAMILTON How much jet fuel did you have in the chopper, when you left Bishop? SMITH I filled up in Bishop, why? HAMILTON (Determined) Jane, open the door, I need to talk to you. SMITH No, I said go away and I mean it? Hamilton drags himself up to where the cover is for the fuel tank filler cap is located. Smith is watching his every move. He opens the small door and unscrews the gas filler cap. He Removes a butane lighter from his pocket and lights it. He moves his hand with the lighter near the fuel cap. Smith is shocked when she sees what he's going to do. HAMILTON (Still determined) Jane, open the door, this is your last chance! SMITH Ok, I'll open the door but if you try anything I'll shoot you! Jane is sitting in the pilots seat (left) so she stretches across the seat and opens the passenger door. He grabs the door handle opening the door and sits in the co-pilot seat. Smith has her pistol trained on him. HAMILTON Hey, you don't have to hold the gun on me. I have two fingers missing from one hand and the other arm is broken, so yes I need you now! SMITH What do you want, I can't fly you anywhere, so? HAMILTON All I want is for you to take my toys and move them away from the Chopper so when the lawmen come they will not find them. You do this and I will disappear and your on your own! SMITH I will do it on one condition. HAMILTON And what is that? SMITH That you are handcuffed. HAMILTON Hey I don't have a problem with that. Smith has cuffed Hamilton to the landing skids and she gets busy transporting all the weapons from the crashed chopper to a point designated by him about one hundred yards from the chopper. The area is a rocky outcropping near the Kings River. She completes the chore and trains the pistol on Hamilton while she's trying to decide if she will let him go. SMITH How do I know, you'll not go back to your weapons and take Negrete and I out with a grenade launcher. HAMILTON Why waste my ammo, if the don't find you in a few days you'll both die from exposure anyway! The nights are running about 20 degrees and if there's a wind chill factor, it'll go 30 to 40 degrees below zero. SMITH Just because I have blonde hair, that doesn't mean I'm stupid. If we die of exposure, you'll die of exposure, a hundred yards from us doesn't make you warmer. Whatever you're going to do, you have to do it now. Is your arm broken? HAMILTON No, just a bad sprain, why? SMITH You know I've been following your antics in the news and I'll bet you have a body count of hundreds. Hamilton smiles and seems quite proud of his dastardly deeds. HAMILTON This is what war is all about, high body count! SMITH You know what Hamilton, you're such a piece of shit I can see no reason for this civilization to keep you alive. HAMILTON So what are you trying to say? SMITH I will give you a break that none of your victims ever had. HAMILTON Ok, just cut the bullshit and let me go! She hands him the key so he can un-cuff himself. She stands at a reasonable distance as he frees himself. The rain has started again and as he walks away he turns and speaks to her. HAMILTON I noticed the blinking light on the avionics panel indicating the CRASH LOCATER BEACON has been triggered. When the search and rescue mission is started they will home in on you. SMITH So? HAMILTON When they get here, if you tell them where I am I'll destroy all of you. If you don't, you and your friends will live. Jane Smith is starting to have second thoughts about letting Hamilton go. SMITH I don't trust you so when you leave I want you to walk backwards away from me. HAMILTON Fuck you bitch, what are you going to do shoot me if I don't do what you say? Goodbye and good luck! Shit for brains! As Hamilton starts to disappear into the rain and mist with his back to her. Smith starts yelling at him. SMITH Turn around so I can see what your doing! As Hamilton is walking away he gives her the finger. SMITH (Again she screams) Turn around, now or I'll shoot! He continues to give her the finger. She stands up on the chopper skids to get a steady shot when she notices a pound of C4 placed next to the fuel filler. It has a red blinking light. She's now screaming at him. SMITH Richard you piece of shit, give me the detonator and give it to me know! He continues to walk away so she takes careful aim and shoots. The round is seen hitting him in the backside of his right leg. He goes down. She runs over to his side in the heavy rain. When Smith gets to him she continues to point the pistol at him and when he's lying there in the mud she points the pistol at his head. He opens his eyes and she sees him reaching for a small trigger detonator in his jacket pocket. HAMILTON You can kiss your friend goodbye! She sees him arming the detonator and ready to push the button. She gets up closer to him and shoots him in the ear. The explosion of the gun is heard and the round exits through the other ear taking brain material and blood all over the rocky surface of where he's sitting. She places the pistol on the ground and the downpour continues. She throws her arms up in the air and yells. SMITH OH GOD, OH GOD, HOW MUCH LONGER WILL THIS INSANE VIOLENCE CONTINUE! She throws herself on the soft sand near the Kings River and she hears a rustling in the tall Birch trees and a young man dressed in a white gown comes to her and stands in front of her. He looks down and he seems to be floating. He speaks to her in an Ancient Language. YOUNG MAN (Aramaic) (In a quite but profound way) Aboon Dabashmaya Nethkadash Shamak Tetha Malkoothak Newe Tzevyanak Aykan Dabashmaya Af Barahav Lan Lakma Dsoonkanan Yamanawashbook Lan Kavine Aykana Daf Hanan Shabookan Lhayavine Oolow Talahn Lanesyana Ela Fatsan Men Beesha. SMITH (In shock) I'm sorry but I don't speak your language! YOUNG MAN (English) (In a quite but profound way) I'm sorry, Our father who is in heaven, holy is his name, your Kingdom is coming, your will is being done on earth as it is in heaven, give us our bread day by day as we forgive those who trespass and sin against us deliver us from evil. My child prepare yourself the Lord is here! There is a tremendous crash of thunder and lighting and the storm clears showing blue skies. As she looks to the heavens she feels a tremendous well being and at peace with herself. The body of Richard Hamilton is awakened and he gets up and dusts himself off. There's no trace of any body damage and he looks into the heavens and in a moment he disappears. The young man speaks to her. YOUNG MAN I'm here to guide you to the Lord, please do not be afraid, no harm will come to you. SMITH Are you and Angel of God? YOUNG MAN Yes, I'm "ESPIRITO SANTOS" your Spirit guide. And yes I'm from the group of angels led by MICHANGELO. SMITH Is this the end of the world. The Apocalypse or Armageddon? YOUNG MAN No my child, this is the beginning! She hears noise near the crashed helicopter and sees Detective Negrete walking to her. She speaks to him. SMITH Detective Negrete, are you ok? NEGRETE Yes, I think so, what's going on? YOUNG MAN I will explain! CUT TO: THE END
