This is the black and white pilot episode featuring KAOS'
Mr. Big, blackmailing CONTROL saying he will use his
Interhmo Ray against the Statue of Liberty, unless CONTROL
pays him $100 million. By finding a rubber banana peel
Max, 99, and Fang go to a garbage scow which turns out to
be Mr. Big's hideout.
Our Man in Toyland
CONTROL is puzzled as to how KAOS has been managing to
secretly smuggle secrets out of the country. 99 works as
a saleswoman and discovers that KAOS is using Bower's
Department Store to store secrets into Polly Dolly (a
doll) so that when they are shipped out of the country,
they don't give doll talk, they give out secrets. Max and
99 were able to "toy" their way out of this
one.
KAOS in CONTROL
CONTROL is supposed to host a major peace conference but
there is a double-agent in CONTROL threatening to ruin
it. The Chief of Internal Security, Maxwell Smart, is
assigned to make sure it goes smoothly. Apparently the
invention of a retrogresser gun by a scientist creates a
disturbance within CONTROL. Max was able to pull his way
out of this one, but had a tough time keeping his pants
on.
School Days
KAOS agents have been able to get into CONTROL'S spy
school. Max and Fang have been assigned to go undercover
as students with 99 as the instructor. Although Max fails
every test in spy school, he was still able to determine
the impostor.
Diplomat's Daughter
Max and 99 have been instructed to protect Princess
Ingrid, a silly child who can care less about being
protected. Despite their efforts, they end up in the
Craw's domain.
Now You See Him, Now You Don't
Dr. Haskel, a doctor who defected from CONTROL, claims
that he was being held captive in KAOS, but managed to
escape using an invisibility ray. Max is determined to
see if the ray is for real or not, but gets kidnapped
along the way.
Washington 4, Indians 3
A group of aggressive Indians demand the return of all
Indian lands taken from them or they will fire their
secret weapon (a giant arrow) on Washington. Max
disguises himself as an Indian, manages his way into the
camp, and saves Washington from "destruction".
Our Man in Leotards
Dancer and rebel Enilio Naharana steals a new CONTROL
drug, Immobilo. She plans to use it against the
Ambassador of Pinerovia. Disguised as dancers, Max and 99
foil a peach of a plot.
The Day Smart Turned Chicken
A dying cowboy comes to Max's apartment to reveal a plot
to poison the Morovian Ambassador at a costume party that
night. The cowboy disappears and the chief refuses to
believe Max, forcing him to save the ambassador himself,
dressed as a giant chicken.
Satan Place
KAOS manages to kidnap the Chief and freeze him to
prepare him for mind-control surgery. Max disguises
himself as a doctor the doctor who is supposed to carry
out the surgery, and rescues him from the
"cold" Harvey Satan.
Too Many Chiefs
Alexi Sebastian, a great impersonator, tries to kill
Tanya Lupescu, who is about to reveal the secrets of
KAOS' codes. Max hides Tanya in his apartment, where
Sebastian, disguised as the Chief shows up. It gets
really confusing when the real Chief also shows up at the
same place.
My Nephew the Spy
While innocently buying shoes, Max stops in a shoe store
that is a KAOS front. Max returns to his apartment,
unknowingly followed by a KAOS killer whose plans are
ruined by the arrival of Max's Uncle Abner and Aunt
Bertha.
Weekend Vampire
CONTROL agents are being found murdered with mysterious
marks on their necks. The weather conditions of the
investigation force Max and 99 to pose as newly weds, as
a result they get lead to Dr. Drago.
Aboard the Orient Express
Max is assigned to carry a payroll briefcase
("strapped" to him) on a trip on the Orient
Express. The trip becomes dangerous when Agent 44 refuses
to help Max because he hasn't been paid. Johnny Carson
has an appearance as the conductor.
Double Agent
Max is assigned to become a drunken, broken agent in the
hopes KAOS will try to recruit him. He is forced to
disassociate himself from both Fang and 99 to make the
plot work. After much effort, finally KAOS recruits him
and his first assignment is to kill 99.
Survival of the Fattest
Max is assigned to protect an Arab prince, who
must stay fat in order to stay in power. Unfortunately,
the prince is kidnapped by Mary Jack Armstrong the
world's strongest woman.
Kisses for KAOS
CONTROL suspects art dealer Rex Savage is
blowing up embassies with his artwork. 99 goes undercover
to romance Savage into giving her his fingerprints, only
to find this task extremely difficult. Max is forced to
play the role of 99's chauffeur.
The Dead Spy Scrawls
CONTROL is desperately seeking the location of
the new KAOS communications center. The Dead Spy Scrawls
reveal it to be in Mother's Family Pool Parlor. 99 uses a
remote control cue ball to cover Max's terrible pool
skills when playing against the great "Shark".
Leonard Nimoy plays one of KAOS' killers.
Back to the Old Drawing Board
KAOS has a new weapon to try and kidnap
Professor Shotwire...Hymie. Hymie takes the role of being
a CONTROL agent assisting Max's duty of protecting the
professor. After Hymie becomes programmed for
"good", he admits that he admitted he is
considering pursuing a career at IBM.
All in the Mind
A KAOS psychiatrist is giving away confidential
information that he learns in his sessions. Max visits
the psychiatrist posing as an insane colonel in order to
get proof.
Smart, the Assassin
Every day Max and the Chief get together to play
chess at the Regency Club and every day Max loses. KAOS
kidnaps Max and hypnotizes him so that he shoots whoever
says "checkmate." Unfortunately for KAOS, Max
brought along his book on chess and decides to use some
tactics when playing against the Chief.
Dear Diary
Retired agent "The Gaffer" has been
kidnapped and his diary is missing. Worried for the
Gaffer and the secrets in his diary, Max and 99 go to the
Retired Spies Home collaborate with the retired agents in
order to find out who stole the diary. Later in this
episode we learn who Max's idle is.
I'm Only Human
CONTROL receives a sour attitude from Fang
forcing him to retire, but Max forces the Chief to send
him undercover at a KAOS kennel. The kennel has been
having pets kill their owners for KAOS.
Stakeout on Blue Mist Mountain
KAOS agents are bring in an atomic bomb, piece
by piece, and taking it to a hideout on Blue Mist
Mountain. Max pretends to be a KAOS agent and takes the
final piece to the mountain, where KAOS enables the bomb.
Lucky for the world, Max didn't wear his bow tie. Ted
Knight makes an appearance as a KAOS agent.
The Amazing Harry Who
Max follows a KAOS agent to San Francisco, where
the agent gets murdered. Ace detective Harry Who joins
Max in tracking down the murderer, who turns out to be
the Craw.
Hubert's Unfinished Symphony
Musician and CONTROL agent Hubert is murdered
before he can tell CONTROL who the new Mr. Big is at
KAOS. 99 assists Max (who claimed he didn't know anything
about music), the music critic in solving the murder.
Ship of Spies, Parts I and II
KAOS has stolen the plans to the nuclear
amphibian battleship and hid them on the freighter Lucky
Star. Max and 99 get on the freighter and search for the
murderer, while 44 hides out below with a cargo hold full
of monkeys. This episode won an Emmy for outstanding
comedy writing.
Shipment to Beirut
KAOS is using a clothes designer to smuggle
plans. Max gets taken off the case by the Chief after
claiming that a model who was supposed to sell
information regarding KAOS' plot to Max turns into a
mannequin. Instead 99 gets the case, but Max disobeys the
Chief's orders to save 99 from becoming a mannequin. This
is the first episode that Max gets a unofficial
commendation and official reprimand.
The Last One in is a Rotten Spy
A member of the Russian swim team is in danger
and calls on Max to save her. Unfortunately, Max didn't
have a pen around to write her name, so he forgets it,
forcing Max to take the role of a swimming trainer so he
can rescue team member.
