THE SON OF SELWYN

The Son of Selwyn was created by Allen Deck of WTBU Butler University television, Indianapolis, in 1997 as a tribute to Indianapolis's first horror host, Selwyn, who broadcast on WISH Channel 8 in the 1950's. Played with great aplomb by Alex McBean, the Son was said to be the offspring of the original Selwyn and a "Voodoo Queen" from New Orleans. For the station's Halloween fund drive the Son kept the regular host of WTBU's Classic Cinema Showcase, Amy Ulrich, prisoner in bottle until enough callers made a pledge to the station. The stunt was a great success and a repeat is planned for this coming halloween.
