MARITA UNABLONDER
Marita Unablonder both works at the United Nations and for the Posh Club, which
means on a daily basis she can be found both embroiled in the latest evil conspiracy
plot or sitting around an office, flicking her hair about and waiting for men to make
cheap passes at her. Her connections have enabled her to arrange diplomatic passports
and be on the spot of major incidents all over the world quickly enough to report back
to her superiors. She can be, therefore, either a useful ally, deadly foe or the token
blond bimbo.
Marita first approached Sculder and Mully with information which helped them
locate renegade agent Alec Bicep (From
Russia with Hate) However, it was soon clear she was not only plotting with
Bicep behind their backs but also with the Pipe Smoking Man to secure Posh Club
information. However, having helped him secure evidence, she made assurances to
Sculder that whatever her methods she was committed to exposing the
conspiracy.
Following a return trip to Tungaga with the Posh Club (Prophecy Woman)
Marita came into possession of the vaccine to
the alien virus as well as a test subject who threatened to reveal the whole conspiracy.
She betrayed Bicep and made contact with Sculder, but made a mistake and became
infected with the alien virus herself. (The End of the Beginning)
A year later, Sculder discovered Marita close to death in a military base.
(Tomorrow's End) She told him that having been exposed to the alien virus
she'd become a prisoner of a secret Posh Club testing programme to find a vaccine.
Following the Posh Club's demise, it was Agent Jeffery Spencer who helped her
escape in return for the location of his mother.
Marita returned to serving the Pipe Smoking Man, however, a few months later and
assisted him in trying to restart the conspiracy. (The Universe) In this aim she
failed, but she did help to settle a score with Alec Bicep by luring him into a trap set by
the Pipe Smoking Man. (Everything) The cause for her conversion back to the
Pipe Smoking Man's agenda after her ordeal is a mystery, but perhaps it came from a
realisation that, if she wasn't assisting him in his plans she might end up in another
experiment or simply killed. She eventually reunited with Bicep, releasing him from
prison and travelling with him to investigate the impending Colonist invasion.
(Invasion Earth) And even after he offered her the chance to betray with him
again, resisted partnership with Bicep in favour of the Pipe Smoking Man. However,
when the Pipe Smoking Man's agenda became clearly to protect himself and nobody
else, Marita finally realised her life was worthless to him. She betrayed him to Agent
Sculder, testifying at the trial for his life and helping to uncover the truth about the
vaccine which ultimately drove off the Colonists. (Nothing Like the Truth)
Like all Sculder's past informants, however, it was to be a betrayal which cost her life.
When she finally confronted the Pipe Smoking Man, he ignored her pleading and
decided to settle the score between them instead by killing her. X-Files Equivalent: Marita Covarrubias
