THE TONE-DEAF SWORDSMEN (BLINKY, PINKY, INKY AND
CLYDE)
The Tone Deaf Swordsmen are an underground think-tank and Government watchdog
group who publish a covert newspaper detailing conspiracy theories, secret
Government plots and knitting patterns. Friends of Agent Sculder, they aid him in
Hex File investigations by researching and acquiring information by means fair or
foul. And although they may not look it, their skills.
The Tone Deaf Swordsmen were Sculder's first stop after acquiring the Xmas File,
and it was their decryption which led Sculder and Mully to a Government testing site.
(The Xmas File) And after Mully's abduction, it was their contacts who
helped diagnose exactly what was wrong with her. (Restoration).
Their hacking into Government computer systems was to finally provide them with
the jackpot: the Exodus File detailing the truth about the conspiracy (Exodus Res
Dana) It was with their help that first Mully discovered the implant inside her
neck from her abduction, and after Sculder's return they led the agents to a German
scientist involved in the conspiracy. (Sins of the Fathers) Once Sculder had
seen more of the Project, they helped him put together the pieces and deduce the
biggest lie of all, cloning of
aliens (Cabrit Sans Cord).
Their actions go beyond the simple providing of information. When Sculder found out
that Mully's life was in
danger and that he was in no position to help (Black Death), it was the Tone
Deaf Swordsmen he called upon to foil the plan of the doctor trying to end her life.
However, such exposure has led them into mortal danger. Their
investigation
into the truth about Pipe Smoking Man (Musings of a Pipe Smoking Man)
almost led to the assassination of Clyde.
Their kinship with Sculder and a belief in his quest for the truth, though, leads them
to act even if it does endanger their lives. They even travelled to Antarctica (The
Hex Files
Movie) to save both agents and bring them back to civilisation. Indeed, as
Mully's belief in the conspiracy has developed she has come to rely on them as well.
They aided her in decoding the ancient inscription that saved her mother from a fate
worse than
death (Pushy Mother) as well as helping her recover Sculder when he was
pushed into mortal danger (Spaced Out) investigating alone.
More recently, Mully has called on them to investigate Agent Danger Cowley
(The End of the Beginning) the results of this investigation led them to
believe, as Mully did, that Cowley was a traitor using Sculder (Tomorrow's
End) and when they obtained further evidence of her duplicity, the truth was
undeniable to him. (Life) They also assisted Sculder in locating the Colonist
spacecraft which, ultimately, led to his abduction.
With Sculder gone, the Swordsmen's assistance was sought by Mully to find him. They
were able to trace him to Arizona following the craft which abducted him (The
Universe) but were ultimately unable to recover him. They managed a few months
later, however, to find his location after successfully hacking into the Pentagon's
computer systems (Invasion Earth) and then assisted Sculder and Mully with
their final assault against the Colonists. (Nothing Like the Truth) Proving
themselves resourceful and brave allies all the way to the end. X-Files Equivalent: The Lone Gunmen (Frohike, Byers and Langley)
