Section I

  1. Why was this channel formed?

It was formed so that B5 fans could have a place to discuss B5, and just join together on IRC Undernet.

  2. Why was this FAQ written?

It was written because one night we felt that we needed to setup a better structure for the channel do deal with spoilers. Also it was felt that possible reasons for being kicked, banned, and gaining/losing Ops needed to be explained.

  3. What will get me kicked or banned?

If you use foul language, flood the channel, harass, don't follow the spoiler policy, violence or in some way disrupt the channel excessively, you will be kicked at the discretion of the Op currently there. If you come back and continue, you will be banned. The length of the ban is up to the Op that banned you, and is NON-NEGOTIABLE. So do not waste our time, and yours by arguing about it, or contacting other Ops to get the banned lifted.

Hugs, and kisses in greeting or parting is acceptable. Any behavior that goes beyond this will result in immediate kick, if you return to continue this behavior you will be banned.

Don't play .wav files, or any sound files excessively. Wav's are nice, but too many and it is irritating, and you may be kicked. The same thing applies to colors and scripts. (This includes repeating away messages) Too much and you may be kicked.

Never mess with, or attempt to kick the bots W and Epsilon3. You will be immediately kick-banned.

Attempt of channel takeover will get you banned, and possibly even k-lined on you server.

  4. What about spoilers?

Many of us on #Babylon5 like to speculate on what will happen latter on in the season and show. Spoilers cause problems with that, and many want to see a show not knowing what to expect. To stop this from happening you are to ask if everyone has seen the episode in question. If someone hasn't, does not say they don't mind spoilers, or simple haven't answered please refrain from spoilers on the channel. Message them, or suggest a separate channel to join (i.e. #Zocalo, or some such thing). Failure to do so will result in you being warned. Continue to do so and you will be kicked. After than if you will be banned. Again, as before, the ban length is up to the Op that is there, and is NON-NEGOTIABLE. So don't waste time trying to get it lifted by another Op.

Section II

  1. What is up with W, he never does anything but change user modes?

W is a service provided on Undernet to register channels. To find out more about registering a channel try: /msg w help The is also another bot called Epsilon3 that supplies functions that W does not do. For more info on Epsilon3, ask any channel op.

  2. How do I get Ops?

If you ask for them chances are you will not get them. With Ops comes much trust and responsibility. Ops are not given lightly, nor will they be given often. You also have to be familiar with Ops commands, and Undernet policy, W policy, and Undernet commands. If you do really want Ops you can mention it to the Op that is there, and you will be considered, and watched to see what your conduct is. Later it will be voted on my the current Ops, and you will either get a trial 30 days, or you wont.

  3. Is there anything I should read?

Other than this FAQ, there are FAQs for Undernet, for W/X channel registration, Unix IRC access, and FAQ for specific client programs like ircII, ircle, or mIRC. Any of these are good to read, and will be helpful in understanding and using IRC better, but are not necessary.

Section III

Special thanks goes out to CapSherdn for registering, and managing the channel. Also thanks goes out to all the Ops of #Babylon5 for reviewing this in it's early stages, and those few others that were willing to review it. And of course thanks to all of our dedicated ops and channel regulars, without their help there would be no channel.
