SYNOPSIS

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was American television's answer to all the James Bond movies. Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin were two superagents teamed together to fight the international crime syndicate THRUSH. The United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) had its secret American headquarters in New York City. Running the office was Mr. Waverly, whose function was to assign agents to cases and coordinate their efforts.

The suave, urbane American Solo and the blond, introverted Russian Kuryakin spent most of their time saving the world from THRUSH and, as the series wore on, the plots became more farfetched. In 1966, a spin-off series called The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. was created, bringing to television two hours of U.N.C.L.E. per week, with plots that were closer to ABC's Batman.

At the end of the 1967 season, The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. was cancelled and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was close to being so. A path of reality was tried at the start of the '67-68 season, with new sets for U.N.C.L.E.'s New York offices and stories that were more suspenseful, with danger that no longer seemed as if it had just come off the comic book pages. It also sported a new cast member in the way of Lisa Rogers, Mr. Waverly's secretary. Unfortunately it was too late and the series ended on January 15, 1968, to be replaced by the biggest hit of the late 60's - Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In.
