Victim of the Game-- Chapter 10

Lucky and Levi were practically running through the hospital hallways towards Robert’s room.

“Frisco should be there by now. He was pretty upset that we interrupted his time with his girls.”  Lucky said smiling.

“Well I don’t think he’ll be upset once we tell him what we found.” Levi said stopping in front of the door to Robert’s room.

Lucky shook his head and clenched his fists at he thought of the information they had found. “I can’t believe that bastard came back to town.”

Levi put his hand on Lucky’s shoulder in comfort. “Hey, we’ll find him.”

Lucky shook his head. “Somehow I don’t think it’s finding him that will be the problem.”

Lucky pushed the door open and was surprised to find that Robert wasn’t alone.

“Well look who finally decides to grace us with his presence.” Lucky said with a smirk.

Sean glared back at him.

Levi walked up to Sean and put his arm around his shoulder. “Hey there Boss Man, save the world yet today?”

Sean narrowed his eyes at Levi. “I never liked you.”

Levi shrugged and grinned at Lucky. “And I thought I was so lovable.”

Lucky just rolled his eyes and looked at Sean. “I’m assuming this isn’t a social call.”

“Well I figured I might wanna come see how my oldest friend was doing, since he’s back from the dead.” Sean said with a pointed glance at Lucky.

Sean was about to lay into Lucky when Robert stopped him. “Leave him alone Sean. I was going to let myself known on this mission anyway, this is just a little sooner than planned.” Robert said calmly.

“Exposing you was going to be a last resort!” Sean ground out.

Robert looked at Sean sternly. “It’s not a big deal. We’ll handle it.”

“Handle what?” Frisco said, entering the room.

“Robert’s new status as one of the living.” Sean said, still angry.

“It’s just pushes the calendar up a bit.” Frisco said shrugging his shoulders. He turned to glare at the new face in the room. “Levi.” He said shortly. The young man might be Lucky’s brother, but Frisco had never trusted him.

“Jones.” Levi said with equal distrust in his voice.

“What has you two boys so flustered?” Robert asked trying to break the tension in the room.

“Yeah, you sounded pretty worried when you called.” Frisco said, taking Robert’s lead. He knew that if he got into a fight with Levi it wouldn’t do anyone any good.

Lucky took some papers out of his pocket and handed them to Robert. “We found those in Faison’s safe.”

“Account numbers.” Robert murmured as he glanced quickly at the papers, but as he looked closer at them his eyes flew to Lucky’s in surprise. “These are the Cassadine account numbers.” He said, recognizing the intricate numbers instantly.

Lucky nodded solemnly.

“Could it be Stefan up to his old tricks again?” Sean said, always playing devils advocate.

Lucky shook his head. “No, Stefan doesn’t use the Cayman accounts, I doubt he even knows about them. That’s not Stefan, that’s Nikolas.”

Luke snuck into Laura’s office and shut the door quietly.

“Marcie I thought you went home for the day?” Laura said without looking up from her paperwork.

“Well you’ve never called me Marcie before, but I guess we can try something new.” Luke smirked.

“Luke! You really need to stop coming to my office.” She said smiling.

Luke sauntered over behind Laura’s chair and moved her hair off of her neck. “And I thought you so enjoyed my
little visits.” He said as he brought his lips to that sensitive area behind her ear.

“Mmm… You know I was just sitting here doing paperwork and I realized that I got my baby back.” Laura said wistfully.

Luke smiled and spun her around to face him. “I know, all of a sudden things seem to be falling into place. If I wasn’t so darn happy I’d be worried.”

Laura smiled. “I know what you mean. It’s almost like waiting for the other shoe to drop. For the first time in a long time we’re almost where we want to be.”

Luke nodded. “If not for that pesky fiancee of yours everything would be perfect.”

“But even that’s perfect, you know. We always need to have one problem to fix. If everything was perfect we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves.” Laura said grinning.

“And you don’t think that’s not a little screwed up?” Luke said innocently.

“Oh I’m quite positive it’s very screwed up.” Laura said with a devious glint in her eyes.

“But that’s just us right?” Luke said raising an eyebrow at her.

“Exactly.”

Levi walked towards the nurse’s station on the sixth floor. He had left Lucky with the others in Robert’s room. It was a weird feeling helping your brother plot the capture, and possible death, of his other brother.  He looked around the hospital and shook his head; he couldn’t believe that after all this time trying to avoid this town he would end up here. Heck he spent most of his time since he was 16 in Europe for the sole purpose of avoiding this town. He didn’t even like Europe all that much. Lucky was right, he really was a coward. “Like father like son.” He muttered as he sat down on the couch.

“Be careful, you start talking to yourself the people in this town will start calling you crazy.” A voice from behind him said. Levi whipped his head around surprised. No one had ever been able to sneak up on him. But when he saw who was standing there he understood why.

“Sorry if I startled you son.” Luke said grinning at the young man before him. “But you better watch what you say, this town seems to have ears in the walls.”

Levi’s hopes had soared for an instant when Luke said son but then he realized that Luke just thought he was a stranger. “Thanks for the tip.” He said stiffly.

“So are you with the WSB crew?” Luke said sitting down beside Levi.

Levi gave him surprised glance.

Luke grinned and shrugged. “I saw you coming out of Rob’s room.”

“So what you just follow me, thinking I’ll give away all the WSB secrets while you skulk in the shadows?” Levi asked incredulously. “You really don’t have a high opinion of government agents do you?”

Luke chuckled lightly. “I think that would be a pretty safe assumption.” Luke looked hard at Levi for a moment.
“I just want to understand why I haven’t seen my son for more than five years.”

“Sure seemed longer than that.” Levi muttered under his breath.

“What was that?” Luke said not having heard what the young man said.

“Nothing.” Levi got up quickly. “If Lucky wouldn’t tell you everything, why in the world would you think I would?” Levi said shaking his head. He turned to leave but Luke’s voice stopped him.

“You pretty close to my boy aren’t you?” Luke asked softly.

Levi snorted and started to walk away. “Yeah, he’s like a brother to me.”

Levi walked quickly down the hall away from Luke. As soon as he turned the corner he leaned against the wall for support. “I can’t believe I just talked to my father.” He breathed as his legs gave out from underneath him and he slid to the floor. He had known for almost ten years that Luke Spencer was his father and it was still a surprise to see him, talk to him. Lucky had told him all about his childhood, how close he was to Luke, the connection they had. And it’s not that Levi was ever jealous, he just thought that maybe once he saw Luke they would have that connection too. He knew it was foolish to think that Luke would magically know who he was, but the angst ridden teen inside him still wished for that.

“Are you okay?” A soft voice jolted him out of himself.

He looked up, startled, into a pair of the softest brown eyes he had ever seen. “Um… yeah I’m fine.” He said as he scrambled to his feet and ran his fingers through his hair in a nervous gesture he’d always had. She was standing there looking at him with concern with her beautiful brown eyes. She was tall and slim and looked like she could have been a model. She had long brown silky hair and looked to be in her early 20’s. Just looking at her he felt like he was a tongue-tied teenager again.

“Are you sure?” She asked. “You look a little shaky.”

He laughed nervously. “Well embarrassing yourself in front of a beautiful woman will do that to a guy.”

She laughed and smiled. “Nice recovery, I’m Emily.”

“Levi, nice to meet you. And I am fine, thank you.”

“I’m glad, though if you were going to pass out I guess this would be the best place.” She said gesturing to the nurses working around them.

“Very true.”

“Well I’ve got to meet someone, so I better get going.” Emily said nervously and started walking away from Levi.

“Yeah I’m sure there’s someplace I’m supposed to be.” Levi joked, smiling at Emily as she walked off. “Wow”

Alexis came down the stairs to find Elizabeth sitting on the couch in the dark.

“Elizabeth, what are you doing here?” She asked softly.

“So what I’m not welcome here anymore?” Elizabeth said harshly, wiping her eyes quickly.

“Of course you are.” Alexis said sitting on the ottoman in front of her daughter. “So, do you want to tell me why you’re sitting in my living room in the dark, crying.”

“I’m not crying.” Elizabeth mumbled, wiping at the tear tracks on her skin.

“Sure.” Alexis looked at her sympathetically. “What happened?”

“I saw Lucky tonight.” She said softly.

“And…” Alexis prodded.

“And we talked… kinda.” Elizabeth shook her head and got up to pace. “It felt just like it used to. Like nothing had changed. How can that be? Everything’s changed so much, I’ve changed so much, but he walks back into my life and suddenly everything’s magically the way it used to be? No, no way I can’t do that.”

“Honey, I know you still love Lucky…”

“No, Alexis, I love the memory of dead man. I don’t know who that guy is, but he’s not the Lucky I fell in love
with and I’m not the sweet little Elizabeth he remembers.” She said firmly.

Alexis shrugged. “You both grew up. Granted you didn’t go through ordinary teenage trails but Spencers and Cassadines have never been ordinary.” She said, trying to get Elizabeth to smile.

It worked, if only for a second. “I don’t know how to do this.”

Alexis got up and wrapped her arms around her daughter and in a rare moment Elizabeth let herself be held. “Just let him get to know the woman you are now and try to understand why he did what he did.”

“How can I understand why he let me think he was dead?” Elizabeth said pulling away from Alexis.

“I don’t know Elizabeth, but I think you might want to ask him that.” Alexis said smiling.

“Oh I hate it when you’re right.” Elizabeth grumbled.

“Well at least you admit it.” Alexis smirked. “Now why don’t you get some sleep and then try to talk to Lucky in the morning.”

Elizabeth nodded. “Yeah that might be a good idea, I haven’t had a good nights sleep for a while.”

“Do you want to stay here, you know you’re always welcome.”

“I know, but I think I’ll just go home.” Elizabeth said picking up her leather jacket and making her way to the door.

“Okay, call me if you need me.”

Elizabeth smiled and shook her head. “I will.”

Alexis sighed and flopped down on the couch after the door closed. Lucky’s only been back for a few days and already her relationship with her daughter was improving. Elizabeth had never opened up to her like that. “Maybe things are looking up.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lucky closed the door to Robert’s room, looked around the hallway, and then turned to Frisco.
“So what are we going to do about the littlest prince?” Frisco smirked.
“I don’t know, but in minute I’m going to go talk to Sly and see what he knows about Nikolas.”
“Now I seem to recall someone saying something about my best friend coming back from the dead, but I would think he would at least call me.” A voice came from behind Lucky.
He spun around to see his oldest friend. “Emily?” He gasped as he hugged her. “This can’t be you, you’re so beautiful.” He joked.
“Oh thanks Spencer, I’ll take that as a compliment.” Emily said as she pulled away from him. “Here I was visiting my parents and what do they tell me? That my best friend is back from the dead. They’ve already told me the whole story about what happened at the gallery and that you’re a WSB agent.” She said smiling.
Lucky and Frisco looked at her surprised. “How did they know that?” Lucky asked.
Emily shrugged. “They talked to Amy.”
Both Frisco and Lucky nodded understandingly.
“I just got back into town so I missed all the excitement last night.”
Frisco looked at his watch. “I hate to interrupt this reunion but Lucky you should go see Sly.”
Emily’s eyes widened in surprise. “Sly? As in Eckert? As in your partner in worm farms?”
Lucky smiled. “Yeah, he got into town a few days before I did. He’s here in the hospital right now.”
“What? Well what room is he in? Is it serious?” Emily said in a rush.
“He’ll be fine Emily, and I was just about to go see him, you want to come?” It was good to see Emily again, but he was getting impatient for news about Nikolas.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Lucky slammed the door behind him as he walked into Sly’s hospital room. Emily left a few minutes ago, but now Lucky wanted answers.

“Hey cuz, there are sick people here you know.” Sly smirked, but froze when he saw the look on Lucky’s face. He looked like he wanted to kill someone, and Sly was just hoping it wasn’t him he was looking that way about. It continued to amaze him how Lucky couldn’t go from reminiscing about stupid things they did when they were kids to the cold person he saw in front of him.

“Sly I want you to tell me everything you know about why Cassadine’s involved with Faison.” Lucky said, not having the patience for small talk.

Sly swallowed nervously. “Lucky, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Sly don’t mess around with me, this is serious.” Lucky said, his voice strained with the effort he was putting into staying calm.

“Look Lucky I don’t know what the Cassadines are up to but…” Sly flinched as the vase that used to be sitting on the table next to the door went crashing into the wall beside him.

“Don’t give me this sh*t Sly!” Lucky took a deep breath to calm himself, he paced the room’s length once and ran his hand through his hair.

“Lucky I honestly don’t know anything more than you do, but you know I’ll help you all I can to get Nikolas.”
Lucky shook his head. “The problem is Sly, I don’t know that. You’re my cousin and I should know that you’re going to help me nail Nikolas…. Wait a second, I never told you we were after Nikolas.” Lucy said, his voice going cold.

Sly shrugged and then winced at the pain in his shoulder. “I figured it was him. Amazingly Stefan’s been pretty clean over the years and Helena’s dead. Faison gloats everyday about how he killed her.”

Lucky nodded, still a little suspicious of Sly. “Okay, but Sly, if I find out you lied…”

“I know Lucky.” Sly said softly and then grinned a bit. “So um… little Emily sure grew up huh?”

Lucky shook his head and laughed. “Yeah people have a tendency to do that Sly. She couldn’t stay ten forever.”
He said as he walked out the door.

Sly grinned. “Lucky for me.”

Sly looked up as someone entered his room, but it was too dark to see them. “Lucky, you forget to harass me about something?”

“Oh I’m not lucky,” A low voice with an English accent sneered. “And neither are you.” The voice stepped into
the light and Sly saw Cole walking toward him.

“Cole.”

“At least you remembered. Did you also remember who you work for?” Cole said lightly, picking up a pillow from the chair. He tossed it in the air and caught it.

“Look I haven’t told them anything.”

“Sure, that’s why the boss’ safe was broken into tonight.”

“Cole, I…”

Cole’s face broke out in an icy grin. “Why don’t you stop talking, permanently.”

And Sly saw the dark form of the pillow coming towards his face.
