Luke’s

Luke was cleaning the bar off, it was only eight o’clock and the crowd was in full swing. Almost everyone was there. Nikolas was busy twirling LuLu around the dance floor with Laura and Elizabeth laughing and watching them from their table. Bobbie was there with Jerry, Mac, and Felicia. Carly and Jason were playing pool in the back room. Life was good for Luke. A flash of pain crossed his face; except for one thing, it was perfect. Stefan had left PC for Greece a little less than five years ago. He had to put up with Nikolas on a daily basis, but he’d gotten used to it. He and Laura were back together and going strong. But the one thing that kept Luke from being completely happy was that he had lost his only son, twice.

Just then the door opened and young woman walked in. She was tall; her long, dark hair flowed behind her, her green eyes flashed with excitement as she walked to the bar. She sat down on a stool in front of Luke and smiled at him.
“What can I get for ya, Darlin’?” Luke drawled flirtatiously.
She smirked like she had expected him to say something like that, like she knew him somehow, or knew of him. “Beer”
Luke raised an eyebrow at her, “You got ID?”
She rolled her eyes and showed him her ID. Luke looked at it and saw that it said she was 22, and since he was satisfied that it wasn’t a fake he gave it back to her and went to get her a beer.
When he came back she gave him an appraising look, “You must be Luke” she declared.
Like raised an eyebrow and leaned in to her, “What makes you say that?” he asked, he was very curious about this girl.
“Well, you strut around like you own this place, so I took a shot in the dark.” She replied amused.
Luke laughed, this girl paid attention to detail, and he liked that. “Luke Spencer, pleased to meet you.” He said as he reached his hand out to her.
“Robbie Chase” She said shaking his hand.
“So, you new in town, Robbie Chase? I haven’t seen you around and I never forget a pretty lady.” He said grinning that Spencer grin.
She smiled again, like she expected that comment, “Yep, I just got in”
“Permanent or temporary?”
“Don’t know yet,” she said taking a sip of her beer.
“Well watch out. This town will suck you in. I’ve been trying to leave for over twenty years, but I keep coming back.” He declared.
“What keeps you here?” She asked innocently.
Luke smiled, “A beautiful wife and daughter.” He said looking across the room at Laura and LuLu.
Robbie turned to see what he was looking at. “Is your wife the blonde at the table?”
“Yep, and my daughter’s the pretty little girl dancing with the big oaf.” He said never taking his eyes off of them.
Robbie smiled, “Who’s the big oaf?”
“My stepson” Luke said slowly, it was still a little painful to say those words.
“Uh-oh, sounds like there’s a story there.” She noted taking another sip of her beer.
“That there is honey, that there is.”
“So, who’s the girl with your wife?” Robbie said gesturing to Liz.
“That’s… well that’s a friend of the family. She’s very much a part of our family. She’s been dating the stepson for about a year, but we’ve known her for…hmm… six…seven years I guess.”
“She’s dating your stepson?” She asked, a little too curious.
“Yeah, they’re not real serious, yet I don’t think. But they’re real close.” Luke said looking thoughtfully at Liz. “She’s happy though.”
“Sounds like there’s another story there.”
“Yep, my life’s full of stories. What about you, you got family?”
Robbie’s eyes darkened, “Nope, no family” she said slowly.
“Everyone’s got family”
“I don’t, not anymore”
“Uh-oh, sounds like there’s a story there.” He said repeating her words.
“Touché” she said and she smiled slightly, “Well Luke, it was nice talking to you, but I better get my but back to my hotel. Maybe I’ll see you around.” She said as she stood.
“You probably will.” Luke said with a smile.
“Goodnight.”
“‘Night Darlin’”
Robbie smiled and left. Laura walked over and stood next to her husband, putting an arm around his waist. Luke looked at her and smiled.
“Who was that?” Laura asked.
“Her name is Robbie Chase, but I have no idea who she is.” Luke said thoughtfully and looked towards the door puzzled.

Outside
Robbie had her cell phone to her ear waiting for the person she just called to pick up. She smiled when she heard the voice on the other end.
“Hey it’s me…Yeah I’m leaving ‘Luke’s’…He was exactly like you described…They were all there…I’ll go to Kelly’s tomorrow and get more information…Yeah I’ll call you tomorrow and let you know… all right bye.” She hung up and sighed
“What I won’t do for some people.” She muttered.

The Next Day/ April, 4 2005
Kelly’s

Luke sat at the counter sipping a cup of coffee.
“Liz, this is damn fine coffee!” Luke exclaimed.
“Compared to yours it’s practically gourmet” Liz quipped.
“Hey!” Luke complained, “I resemble that remark!”
They both laughed and Liz went in the back to check on things.
Luke was glad he had sold his half of Kelly’s to Liz. She had studied art at PCU instead of in NY but she finished in the top of her class and now was part owner in an art gallery with V. Ardanowski. After Liz had sold her first painting for well over 50,000 dollars, she had offered to buy Luke’s half of Kelly’s. She said she wanted to do it for Lucky, because he loved the place. And after she said that Luke just couldn’t refuse her. He sold it to her on the condition that he would always get free food. Tammy was still the manager but Liz was here a lot.
The door opened and Luke turned to see who entered. He smiled warmly when he saw that it was Robbie Chase.
Robbie came up and sat next to Luke.
“Two days in a row! You followin’ me around girl?” Luke joked
“Good morning Luke.” She answered, not phased by his joking.
Luke liked this girl, but he was always disturbed when he wasn’t able to shock people.
Liz came out front and went up to Robbie, “Hi, What can I get you?” she asked pleasantly.
Luke smiled. He kept telling Liz that she wasn’t a waitress anymore, but she would just laugh and say that old habits die-hard.
“A cup of coffee please, and I’ve heard you guys serve some great chili.”
“Best in Port Charles.” Liz said confidently.
“Then I’ll have a bowl.”
Liz went to place the order and when she came back out of the kitchen Luke called her over.
“Liz, I want you to meet the newest resident of Port Charles, Robbie Chase. Robbie this is Liz Webber.”
“Nice to meet you.” Liz said warmly shaking her hand.
“Actually, I don’t know if I’m staying yet.” Robbie said.
“Oh well, I’m sure you’ll like it if you do.” Liz said sweetly.
Luke looked at Robbie, “Still haven’t decided yet?”
“Luke, I just got here yesterday!” Robbie said laughing.
“That’s no excuse” He deadpanned.
Robbie laughed. Then the door opened and Luke turned to see who it was.
Luke noted that he didn’t grimace, wince, or moan in pain, when Nikolas walked into a room anymore. For some reason THAT made him grimace.
Nikolas walked over to Liz and gave her a kiss. Then turned towards Luke. “Hi Luke.”
“Hey there Jr.” Luke said smiling. Nikolas rolled his eyes. “This is Robbie Chase. Robbie this is Nikolas Cassadine.” Luke said making introductions. He had no idea why he was letting her into his world, introducing her to the people he cared about. ‘Ew! When had Nikolas been grouped in that category?’ he asked himself.
Robbie seemed to stiffen in Nikolas’ presence. Luke noticed and leaned over and whispered loudly in her ear. “Don’t worry everyone has that reaction to him. But he grows on you. Slowly my whole family got to like him.”
Robbie laughed. And so did Nikolas and Liz.
Luke straightened and spoke at a normal volume, grinning at Nikolas. “First my wife, then my daughter, and my sister, and finally…” Luke faltered and his features darkened. “My son” He finished quietly.
Liz and Nikolas had also taken on a solemn, far away look.
Robbie looked questioningly at Luke.
“He died. It will be five years next month.” Luke said quietly.
“Luke, I’m so sorry,” Robbie said solemnly, and she didn’t seem surprised. Nikolas looked at her suspiciously.
Robbie turned to Nikolas, “I’m really sorry if I seemed uncomfortable a second ago; I just really didn’t expect to see a Cassadine in a diner in upstate New York.” She said, trying to smile.
“Yeah, we’re everywhere.” Nikolas said humorously.
Robbie laughed, “Well I better go. I hope I see you guys later.”
“Oh I’m sure you will Darlin’.” Luke said.
“I hope so.” Robbie said quietly. “It was nice meeting you two.”
“You too.”
“Bye” Robbie said as she walked out the door.
Luke had a strange feeling about this girl. It was abnormal of him to let strangers into his life, but for some reason Robbie Chase didn’t seem like a stranger. Like she knew him somehow, but he knew for a fact that he didn’t know her.

On a train outside of Port Charles.
Robbie walked into the compartment she shared with her companion. He was looking out the window.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” She asked quietly.
“Positive.” He said firmly, not looking away from the window.
Robbie grimaced, “She moved on, you know that. She’s happy.”
He shook his head; “No she’s not. She just doesn’t know it yet.”
Robbie sighed; there was no convincing him. He always seemed to believe in the impossible.
