Wolves-- Chapters 7 & 8

~7

Liz ran into the art gallery and slammed the door behind her. She wanted to run away from everything, she wanted to shout, she wanted to cry, she wanted to smash something…
She searched wildly for something to take her frustrations out on.  Her eyes finally settled on a small sculpture that was on display in the middle on the room, and she picked it up.
“Wait!!” Came a scream from the office.
Liz looked over to see a very panicked looking V. Liz almost laughed at her friend and partner, the panic on her face for the fate of the tiny, but expensive, sculpture was almost comic.
V walked slowly and cautiously towards Liz as if she were holding a gun and not what V had always thought looked like a goat holding a teacup.
“Put it down nice and slow.” V said as she took the sculpture out of Liz’s hands. Liz tried to stifle laughter but instead ended up hugging V and crying.
A startled V held Liz while she cried her eyes out.
“Um … Liz, honey, what happened?” V asked, still very confused by Liz’s behavior.
Liz pulled away and V saw that Liz was almost as confused as she was, but for different reasons.
“Oh V, I don’t know what to do.” Liz said helplessly. Liz put her hands on her face and V’s keen eye caught something on her left hand.
“Nikolas asked you to marry him? Is that what’s wrong?”
“No… Well kind of… Oh geez, something has happened that I never thought possible.”
“What? Are Nikolas and Luke going camping?” V said trying to make Liz smile. And she did smile, but only briefly.
“Nikolas did ask me to marry him last night, and I said yes. But something else happened.” V nodded at her to continue.
Liz took a deep breath, tying to calm herself a little. “Lucky’s alive.” She said simply
V looked at her in disbelief, “What?”
“He’s alive V.” Liz said walking to a chair to sit down. “What am I going to do?”
“Well, what happened? Where has he been for five years?” V questioned as she sat down next to Liz.

The Spencer home

Robbie came down the stairs and someone knocked on the door.
“I’ll get it Laura.” She shouted to the upstairs.
Robbie pulled open the door to find Nikolas standing there.
“Hi Nikolas.” She said politely.
Nikolas looked at her, very confused.
“I’m Robbie I met you at Kelly’s about a month ago.” She said stepping aside to let Nikolas into the house.
“Oh yes I remember.” He said with recognition, but then turned to her still confused. “I don’t mean to be rude, but what are you doing here?”
Robbie smiled mischievously trying to find the right words. “I came with a friend.”
“Where is my mother, Laura?” Nikolas asked
“Upstairs with her children.” She said evenly, then she turned and yelled up the stairs, “Nikolas is here!”
The sound on running feet could be heard upstairs, quickly followed by the sight of LuLu running down the stairs heading straight for Nikolas, who kneeled down to hug her.
“Nikki!! Nikki!! Guess who’s home!” LuLu’s face was happier then he had ever seen it.
“Who? Did Grandma Lesley come for another visit?” Nikolas saw out of the corner of his eye that two people were coming down the stairs and he lifted his head to see who it was. His breath caught in his throat as he looked at the ghost that stood before him.

Art Gallery

Liz had just finished telling V all she knew about Lucky’s return from the dead, and V’s heart immediately went out to Nikolas. V didn’t know what she would do if suddenly Brenda came back from the dead. She hadn’t known Lucky and Liz that well before he died, but she knew Nikolas and Liz very well. She would have to talk to Nikolas later, because she knew what it was like competing with a ghost. She couldn’t imagine that ghost coming back to life.
V looked at her friend and smiled sympathetically. As much as she knew what Nikolas would be going through, she knew how hard it was for Liz to start dating Nikolas to begin with. She had felt so guilty.
Liz’s voice shook V out of her thoughts.
“What am I going to do V?”
V smiled sadly at her friend, “All I can tell you is, follow your heart.”
Liz nodded in understanding. She looked down at the ring that rested on her finger then looked back up at V looking very determined.
“Nikolas and I are getting married. I made a commitment to him, and I love him, and I’m going to stand by that.” She said matter-of-factly.
V nodded her head, but inside she knew that Liz was following her head, not her heart.

“Lucky!” Nikolas went to his brother and held him tight. When they broke apart Nikolas looked a little uncomfortable. He wondered if Lucky knew about Liz and him.
Lucky picked up on this. “Nikolas it’s all right. I know about you and Elizabeth.”
“You do?”
“Yeah, I’m glad you two are happy. So when’s the wedding?” Lucky said with a smile on his face.
“Wedding?” Laura said from behind them.
“Yeah, I asked Liz to marry me last night and she said yes.” Nikolas said almost in shock. Of all the ways Lucky could have reacted this was the least likely in Nikolas’ mind.
“Oh honey I’m so happy for you.” Laura said hugging Nikolas. She didn’t know what Lucky was up to, but she didn’t think she was going to like it.
Lucky went over to Robbie and put his arm around her and kissed her cheek. Robbie smiled and leaned into him. Laura looked of at Lucky and Robbie and corrected herself; she knew she wasn’t going to like this.

Later that night at the docks

Robbie was walking along the docks smiling. When he first found out about Nikolas and Liz, Lucky had said that he wasn’t mad at Nikolas. After all they thought he was dead. But Robbie could be mad at Nikolas. She was really only angry because she knew that the situation was hurting Lucky.
Lucky’s whole family, and some that weren’t his family, had come by to see him today. Robbie had never met so many people in one day before. It was a little weird putting faces to the stories Lucky had told her. She was glad Lucky was happy, other than the whole Liz fiasco. If all went according to plan, Liz would be back with Lucky by the end of July. She didn’t think Lucky would go along with her plan, but she was glad he did.
She suddenly felt a chill run up her spine and then heard a voice that confirmed her errie feeling.
“Hello Roberta.”
Robbie turned around quickly and saw someone lurking in the shadows. Someone she would recognize in any light.
“What are you doing here?”
“You owe me”
“My father’s debt died with him. I owe you nothing!” she shouted.
The man walked up to Robbie and swiftly grabbed her by the throat. “I owned your father. I owned your brothers. And now I own you. Don’t cross me little one.”
Robbie broke free of his grasp and ran up the stairs, not looking back.
The man smiled and disappeared into the shadows.

Liz’s apartment above her art gallery.

Liz had talked to V for a couple of hours and then come up to her apartment and looked at pictures from before the fire.
She still had to tell Nikolas, if he didn’t already know. But it almost wasn’t real to her yet. Her heart was screaming at her to run to Lucky and hold onto him forever, but then her head told her that she made a commitment to Nikolas and that she loved him. She was still mad that Lucky hadn’t come back to her as soon as he regained his memory. He had made her grieve longer than she had to. But her heart just whispered ‘Lucky’s your soul-mate’
She ignored that soft whisper for the hundredth time that day.
The light knock on the door shook her out of her thoughts.

“Come in” she called. She knew it would be Nikolas.
Nikolas entered her bedroom, where she had been looking at pictures.
“Hello, I just came from my mother’s house.” He said quietly.
“You saw Lucky.”
“Yes, How are you?” He asked concerned.
“Oh, I’m fine. I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone but I’m fine.” She said sarcastically.
“If you want to call off the engagement, I understand.” Nikolas said apprehensively.
Liz looked up at Nikolas, “Oh Nikolas. No, I am going to marry you. This doesn’t change anything.”
“It doesn’t?” Nikolas asked with a hint of skepticism in his voice.
“No it doesn’t. Just because Lucky’s not dead doesn’t erase the last six years I’ve lived without him. I moved on. It took me a long time, but I moved on. And for the last year I have been so happy with you.” She said trying to reassure Nikolas.
“I’m glad I make you happy.” Nikolas said as he pulled Liz to him and hugged her. He was so thankful that he wasn’t going to lose her.
Liz hugged him back, but that voice whispered in her ear again.

Spencer house

Lucky sat on the couch, exhausted. Had seen just about everyone he had ever known in Port Charles, his dad must have called everyone in town, or maybe just Amy. Even Emily had called from Milan, where she was modeling in Chloe Morgan’s fashion show. She said she would come to PC as soon as she could. Everyone had sidestepped around the subject of Elizabeth and Nikolas. His heart sank as he thought about Elizabeth marrying someone else let alone his own brother. He still loved her so much, he could only hope that Robbie could help him get her back.
Robbie had been there for him ever since he woke up in that hospital in Spain. Until he regained his memory he had felt lost, but he had been happy with Robbie and her family. He pushed the thoughts of Robbie’s family out of his head and concentrated on the day he had just spent with his family and friends.
It had been exhausting, but wonderful. A lot had changed with the people he knew.
Kevin and Lucy had stopped by. Lucy, of course was as bubbly and excited as usual, telling him how happy she was that he was back and asking if he would perform in the Nurses Ball all in the same breath. Luckily Kevin had stepped in and saved him, telling Lucy that she should give him a little time.
Felicia, Mac, Georgie, Maxie, and Little Robert had all come by. Apparently Felicia and his dad were the best of friends. Maxie was babbling on and on about her latest boyfriend. Georgie had mostly played with LuLu all day.
Sonny and Alexis showed up, which of course surprised Lucky. He didn’t even think they liked each other. Ned had gotten back together with Lois and moved to Bensonherst to be with her and his daughter.
Bobbie and Jerry had gotten married, and Lucas was 13 now and one of the happiest people to see him.
Taggert had even stopped by, that had certainly surprised Lucky.
But what had surprised Lucky the most was Carly. Her and Jason were married shortly after AJ was sent to jail for arson and attempted assault. Luke had said that even Carly was surprised at how well her plan had worked.
Lucky had never paid much attention to Carly before, but today she had taken him aside and said she wanted another chance.

~~~~~~Flashback~~~~~~
“After we thought you were dead I thought that I had lost the chance to get to know two members of my family.” Carly looked like she was trying to choose her words carefully.
“I don’t why I waited so long to try and know my family.” She said looking at her hands nervously.
“Even after I told Bobbie that I was her daughter, but then I had done so many terrible things that I really didn’t think anyone wanted me in their family. But then something amazing happened. I stopped being so angry, well I was still a little angry.” Carly admitted with a smile.
“But anyway Bobbie started to accept me and little by little we started to get closer. And that was when Ruby died and well I had always thought that Ruby hated me. After she died I found out that she didn’t hate me, and that I could have had in my life, if I wasn’t so stubborn and selfish.” She said tearfully. She continued, barely taking a breath between sentences. She was babbling in true Carly fashion.
“And then you were gone and it felt like my whole family was disappearing before my eyes. Well after that I kind of threw myself into the whole family thing. Luke even ended up helping me with my plan for AJ. And Laura and I get along really great and I spend a lot of time with LuLu and Lucas. Liz and I go shopping all the time. She didn’t really like me at first, but then I explained how I wanted to get to know you a little, even though you were gone, through her. But now that you’re here I would really like a second chance. And could you please say something?” She had been getting increasingly nervous through her little speech and the fact that Lucky hadn’t said a word wasn’t helping.
Lucky cracked a smile and that smile turned into a soft chuckle then all out laughter. Carly’s expression turned to annoyance at his laughter.
“I might be trying to get on your good side and begging forgiveness but I don’t have to take you laughing at me.” She said her Spencer temper shining through.
Lucky suppressed his laughter quickly; “You really are a Spencer.” He said smiling.
Carly looked at him nervously. “What does that mean?”
“That means that we’re family and you want to make an effort then I’m all for it.”
“Oh thank you Lucky!” She said throwing her arms around Lucky.
“Thank you Caroline.” Lucky said softly.
“Call me Carly.” She said pulling back to look at him.
Lucky looked at her mischievously “Sure thing Caroline”
~~~~~~End Flashback~~~~~~~

Lucky smiled, he had all of his family and friends today. Well all of them except one, but hopefully that would change soon.

Just then the door burst open and Lucky turned to see Robbie run in the house and shut the door behind her, completely panicked. She looked terrified, Robbie was never terrified.
“Robbie what happened. Are you all right?” Lucky asked concerned. He rose from the couch and went to her.
Robbie spun around. She seemed startled that he was there.
“Lucky, I thought you’d be asleep. You had a big day.” She stalled.
“Robbie what has you so scared?” He pressed.
“Oh I just heard something behind me when I was walking home and it startled me. You know how jumpy I am. Well I’m beat, I’m going to bed, good night.” And with that she dashed up the stairs.
Lucky looked up after her and quietly said to himself, “You don’t get jumpy.”
