Welcome to the Artificial Kingdom!

No Doubt will spike their signature sound with a dramatic mix of reggae, synth-pop and arena metal on their fifth album, which they will begin writing in January, guitarist Tom Dumont said.
"I would describe our new direction as a fusion of dancehall reggae, Euro-synthpop and victory rock, ala Europe's 'Final Countdown,' " Dumont wrote in an e-mail interview Monday. "We're planning on being very adventurous and working with different producers."
The Orange County, California, quartet will not do any more touring behind its latest LP, Return of Saturn (2000), so the bandmembers are free to focus on the album's follow-up. "We pretty much toured all we care to on this one, and since we're all fulfilled with that, we've set ourselves the goal of having a new ND CD out by the end of 2001," Dumont wrote.
If No Doubt meet that release target, they'll trounce their track record for taking a long time between albums. Four-and-a-half years lapsed between their 1995 smash, Tragic Kingdom, and Return, though the band spent about half that time on the road.
"This time we're going to try really hard to not make this a traumatic experience," singer Gwen Stefani recently said. "We had a really fun time with [Return,] because it was all about pleasing ourselves, and it was very much a creative process, and it was really fulfilling."
Return of Saturn, featuring the current single, "Bathwater," has sold 1.1 million copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan. Tragic Kingdom has sold 7.5 million.

- "Southside," the video from Moby, featuring GWEN, has been released on music stations everywhere, and, for lack of a better phrase, it's the poop. so take a big whiff.
- "Bathwater" has also been released! Despite angry criticism from no doubt fans everywhere ("It's a wannabe-TRL-pop-video!" rages an anonymous fan), I think that the video is innovative and wonderfully filmed. I liked the red, black, and blue scenes, and I enjoy watching the video. SO THERE.
- Have Gwen and Gavin broken up? Does Tony have a 10-inch.. um.. friend? Who cares? They are among some of the rumors written in various magazines.. look for a rumors section sometime this year.
- A 2001 No Doubt Calendar has been released! Pick one up at Sam Goody locations everywhere.
- No Doubt performed "Bathwater" at the Radio Music Awards tonight on ABC. I missed it. Boohoo.
- Gwen is scheduled to perform with Moby on David Letterman on Monday, November 6th. Stay tuned..
09.16.00
- Gwen recorded a song with MOBY a short while ago. The techno God decided to rerecord the song "South Side" from his hit album, Play, using Gwen for the backup vocals! The song will be released as a single on October 3rd and it will also be used on commercials, etc.
- "Bathwater" will be released as the band's next official single on October 3rd. With the video already filmed, you can expect to see it premiered shortly thereafter.
- The Gwen/Gavin engagement rumors were FALSE! No, there WONT be any small pink-haired british children running around Southern California for a while.. (not that you need to be married to procreate. or.. er.. WHATEVER it seemed funny at the time.)
08.22.00
- Rumors floated around about Gwen and Gavin breaking up but the rumors are NOT TRUE. Just so you know.. and the rumors about their engagement announcement on MuchMusic is basically internet heresy so when there are further developments the Artificial Kingdom will have them.
- The performance at the X-Games was, supposedly, KICK ASS!! to read a review from the ndifc, click here.
- In an interview at the X-Games, Adrian confirmed that No Doubt will in fact have a Christmas Album, as well as a Beacon Street Volume 2. After touring in Australia and New Zealand, they will take a well-deserved break before embarking on a tour of small U.S. clubs in the Winter.

Most likely, all of the B-sides will be released at some point, so only time will tell regarding the SKOL single.

03.07.00
- There was a vicious horrible treacherous rumor floating around that no doubt is going to break up following the release of return to saturn. SWEET CHRISTMAS THANK GOD it isn't true!!
Tom put the rumor to rest when the news page went back up on the official site. Here is what he said:
- March 7,2000
As you may have noticed, this part of the website has been down for a while. Sorry
for the inconvenience, we’re working on getting the photo of the day back up soon,
especially since there are a ton of new photos from our recent promotional tour in
New York and Europe.
Regarding the rumor going around that we're breaking up; it's not true. No Doubt is
not breaking up. A number of journalists have speculated about this recently when
we explained to them that we approached the making of "Return of Saturn" as if it
were our last album. By this we meant that wanted to give it everything we had and
in turn make it the best it could be. We have had no discussions within the band
about hanging it up after this album. We are excited about getting out there and
playing these new songs for everyone. See you soon.
-Tom Dumont.
03.05.00
- The band played two small private shows in England and in Germany this past week. go to reviews to read a review of the London show.
02.08.00
- The band was on MTV's "Making the Video" on Monday Night, followed by a world premiere of their new (kick-ass) video "Ex-Girlfriend!" The band may appear on MTV's "Total Request Live" to premiere the video tomorrow, but they might not. What I DO KNOW, is that the video will be premiered on the show tomorrow after the #2 video is shown, so check your local listings.. I believe it is on at 3:30 pacific time so since it is live, the rest of you in various time zones can figure it out!!
- 2000 Tour Dates were announced on the Official No Doubt Site today, and you can check them out by clicking here!
02.05.00
- Tom Dumont announced on the Official No Doubt Site that the band will appear on the cover of the April Issue of Spin Magazine.
- Get a look behind the scenes of the new video, "Ex-Girlfriend" on Monday, 2/7, on MTV. The station will air the video following the show, "Making the Video" at 10:30 e/p. If you do not live on the East or West coasts, check your local listings!!
- Adrian Young got married sometime this past month in an undisclosed location presumably in Southern California. Adrian proposed to his girlfriend on stage during a show at the Fillmore back in October (which I WENT TO!!! YEAH I SAW THE WHOLE THING), following the show. The crowd cheered heavily as a tearful Gwen belted out an encore performance of "Spiderwebs" as another drummer filled in for Adrian who sauntered off into the wings with his new fiancee.
01.27.00
- No Doubt announced a contest on Sunday, where a certain number of fans who wrote an email first would get to be in the new "Ex-Girlfriend" video to be filmed this past Monday. A correspondant who was one of the winners, stated that Gwen got her braces off, and the video was concert-themed. Everyone was wearing black & red, and the band was really good with hanging out with their fans on the set. The video is set to air on MTV the week of February 7th...
...Stay Tuned...
