Men Get the Short End of the Love Stick
2/10/99

Sean
Well we here at YRU-Up Central are all ready getting ready for some big Valentines Day excitement. So we basically decided to make the whole site a fruity pink. Proving once again the love is basically fruity. It's really more of a girl thing isn't it? I'm not trying to say that love is a girl thing necessarily, just that anything that goes with love was made up by girls. I think I might have chosen a more pleasant color scheme if I were to design the look of love. Enough of those stupid heart things. They don't look anything like hearts. Where the hell did they come from? How come other organs didn't get this same mistreatment? I don't get it.

But seriously, everything about love is girl thing. Teddy bears, flowers, scented love bead candle bath lotion. It's all what chicks want. Why do love related items have to be all soft and squishy? Why can't it be hard, rigid and unfeeling, like men? I think the symbol of love should be a rock. Rocks can be exchanged as a symbol of eternal union. And I don't mean those stupid gem rocks. I'm talking granite. Cold and sterile, but at the same time, the symbol of all that is good about mankind. Plus, it's easy to find rocks. And if you really liked someone, you can throw it in a rock tumbler for a while. Also, a rock really has more everyday uses than the heart symbol. It can be used to knock out intruders or hold down paper. And let's not forget breaking windows. So everyone rally behind me to change what this society uses to represent love in its many forms. Come together to support the rock as our universal symbol of hope and caring. Plus, a new color scheme of grays, blacks and browns will replace the tired reds and pinks of the days of old. It's time for men to take back love. Women had it long enough.

On to another Valentine topic. I think the whole day has lost all of it's fun for me. When I was a kid I used to get to make a crummy valentine box and buy those generic valentines. I mean, what says love better then My Pet Monster or Spiderman? I guess what I really liked the most was the candy. Valentine candy was good stuff. I suppose I could buy some of it for myself now, but it's really not the same. Candy given to you always tastes better then the stuff you get yourself. I also liked the fact that it took time away from actual schoolwork, and sometimes, you could go home early. Now Valentines Day is all about actual love and for the most part is fairly depressing. Holidays are always much better when they're about false sentiment, candy and getting time off from school. Hell, that's why everyone likes Christmas.
