Amazon (mis)Adventures

Day two: The plan

I spent most of my second day in the Amazon Forest in complete and utter discomfort (ok agonizing pain). In case anyone was wondering the combination of bee stings, bruised thumbs, poison Oak, and nettles is less than pleasant. By about 9 am I was going out of my mind with the urge to scratch. And just when I would get it under control, I swear the wind was whispering in my ear "I'll bet that itches." Upon reflection, the wind sounded an awful lot like a certain Goddess we all know and love.

On the bright side, food was a little bit easier to capture, it only took an hour to get that rabbit out of the tree. Yes, I said tree. Apparently, in the Amazon Forest rabbits can climb, or at least they can with a little assistance from a rambunctious Goddess.

I took some time to go over the map. ‘Course a map is not all that useful until you can figure out where you are on it. And without a big "You are Here" arrow, let's just say it wasn't easy. Luckily I was near a river. So I followed it a bit and matched the bends with the map.

About that time I began to wonder what exactly the Goddess intended for me to do while I was stuck there. And how long she planned on leaving me. Then a thought struck me like, well like the wind whispering in my ear, "Maybe forever. Maybe she's never coming back."

In an attempt to push those thoughts out of my head, I began studying the map. That's when I saw it, the infamous lava pit in which the Goddess spent the first part of her Godhood trapped in mortal combat with Valasca. And it was only about an inch away! Well, an inch on the map, that is. But still, I could not pass up such an incredible opportunity.

Finally I had a plan, I would visit the historical landmark and pay tribute to the Goddess with a holy journey.
