MTV's FANatic with Tia and Tamera.
About the clip
The FANatic episode featuring Tia and Tamera was produced in late summer 1998. Two guys, Larry and Gary (who are also identical twins), were chosen by MTV to meet the girls.
The episode was aired on MTV Nordic (Scandinavia) on June 6 1999. The downloadable clip on this page is an extract from that episode containing the entire interview with Tia and Tamera.
The clip is 5:34 minutes, so something is clearly left out. First of all the other interview with Jewel was cut clean. Also I decided to drop most of the beginning where we meet Larry and Gary and follow them to Hollywood. I edited all of that down to a 13 second intro. One piece of Sister Sister footage was also left out.
The result is a file (3.14 MB) of high compressed video.
My goal was to create the smallest possible file to minimize the download time, and still
maintain a reasonable level of pictures and sound quality.
I decided on a rather small frame size (160x120 pixels) and a very low refresh rate: only
10 frames pr. second.
On the other hand the data throughput is relatively high: 80 kbps using G2 video
compression techniques. This ensures a moderate rate of sound and picture quality so you
can still recognize the faces and hear what's being said.
I decided on a downloadable ZIP-file instead of streaming video because of the 80 kbps data rate. A dual ISDN phone line would be required to make that work and not many people have that - yet!
