"If You Were That Stoned?" . . . As Mulder slipped the cassette into the tape player riffs of heavy guitar music filled the small space in the car. Playing air guitar with the best of them, he sent a fun look his partner's way.
Calmly and without comment, Scully reached over and pushed the eject button. With a shake of his head, Mulder offered in mock exasperation, "kids today, huh?"
She rested her head on her hand, her elbow leaning out the window and turned to him, a challenge in her eyes. "You believe it all, don't you?"
In all seriousness, he replied, "why wouldn't I?" the look of an earnest choir boy on his face.
A hint of amusement settled in her eyes, although she tried in vain to hide it. Her lips were stretched in a tight smile as she resisted the urge to laugh. Getting control of herself, she looked away from him briefly before returning her gaze back to her partner.
"Mulder!" she exclaimed. "Did you see their eyes? If I were that stoned --" A definite leer in his voice, Mulder interrupted with a smile, "-- ooh, if you were that stoned, what?"
"You're Crazy" . . . Mulder looked at Scully, imploring determination in his eyes and in his voice. "You saw exactly what I saw in the sky tonight, what do you think they were?"
She was silent for a few moments before stubbornly replying, "just because I can't explain it, doesn't mean I'm gonna believe it was a U.F.O."
With the same passionate intensity in his voice, Mulder held her gaze and offered in concise tones, "unidentified flying objects . . . I think that fits the description pretty well." Continuing, his voice rose slightly, his need for her to understand evident in every line of his body, "tell me I'm crazy."
"Mulder, you're crazy," Scully immediately replied. His face broke into a smile and he let loose with a light, self-deprecating laugh.
