Season Two, Episode Ten - Red Museum

2x10 - Red Museum

"Bar-B-Que Sauce" . . . Scully dropped the bone of an eaten bar-b-que rib onto her plate and wiped her hands on a napkin. "You know, Mulder," she began, completely unaware that a fair-sized glob of bar-b-que sauce rested at the corner of her lips, "with ribs like these, I'd say the Church of the Red Museum has its work cut out for them."

Without replying, Mulder reached over with his napkin and wiped the bar-b-que sauce away from her mouth. She nodded her head slightly, murmuring "thanks" under her breath. He merely nodded back and took a sip of water while she sent a look his way that should have burned him with desire in his chair while he sat in it.

"The Little Wife" . . . Mulder faced the four teenagers and sent the young disciple of the Red Museum Church on his way, "go ahead. Go home."

"Catch you later, Red," sneered one of the four. Immediately, Mulder turned to him, "you gotta problem?"

"Yeah," answered Katie, the lone female in the quartet, a pretty, if overtly made-up, girl, "but who asked you?"

"I see four against one. I got a problem."

Before Mulder could say more, Scully exited the restaurant, calling out his name. He turned to look at her, as did the four teenagers. The apparent leader of the group, Rick, at last responded to Mulder's comment.

"Yeah, why don't you run along with the little wife," Scully glanced over at Mulder as she pulled her coat more securely around her, accidentally revealing her gun to the other teenagers. Rick, too busy concentrating on Mulder to notice it, continued insolently.

"You're gonna miss the tour bus."

Katie pointed to Scully, saying in a clearly frightened voice, "she's got a gun."

Rick turned to her, "well, what she gonna do? Shoot us?" The other three backed away slightly, obviously not wanting to tangle with Mulder and Scully. Rick evidently had no such problem.

"Go call my dad, Katie. I think he'd like to hear about this."

"Who's your dad?" Mulder asked immediately.

"The sheriff," Rick responded in an arrogant taunt. Mulder glanced down at Scully, who met his gaze. Turning back to Rick, he agreed mildly with the teenager, "yeah, I think he would like to hear about this."

Looking disconcerted for the first time since Mulder and Scully had come out, Rick glanced over at his friend's insistent "come on, Rick, let's just get out of here."

Deciding to follow his advice, Rick sent a final look of misgiving Mulder's way, but said nothing more, only walking past him and deliberately brushing hard against his shoulder. Mulder turned to watch the four youths walk away. Scully turned as well, muttering softly, "kinda hard to tell the villains without a score card."

Mulder looked down at her, a look upon his face indicating that he wasn't thinking of villains, but perhaps of Rick's description of his "little wife" with the smear of bar-b-que sauce emphasizing the fullness of her lips. She glanced up at him and he quickly looked away. She gazed at his turned face for a moment longer, guessing at his thoughts, before dropping her gaze.
