CORY MANSION/SAME DAY
CARL and RACHEL are talking as MATT comes in.
MATT
Mom, have you seen Amanda?
RACHEL
No, she said she was going to Cory to meet Chris.
MATT
Okay, I'll reach her there.
RACHEL
Matt? What do you think about what Amanda's doing?
MATT
What do you mean?
RACHEL
She's so set on finding Cameron's killer. I think she's getting
herself in way over her head.
MATT
Don't worry, she wouldn't put herself at risk. She's got Alli to
think about.
CARL
I'm not so sure about that, Matthre. I agree with Rachel. I think
she's become obsessed with finding this person.
MATT
It was her husband. Can you blame her for trying to find his
killer?
RACHEL
No, of course not. But she's missing the fact that he is a killer
and she's putting herself in danger.
MATT
I'm sure she's fine.
RACHEL
I wish I believed that.
Rachel sighs and we:

CORY PUBLISHING/SAME DAY
AMANDA and CHRIS are shuffling through Cameron's files.
CHRIS
This is useless.
AMANDA
No, it isn't. There has to be something here.
CHRIS
Amanda, he was no closer to finding this stalker than we are
right now!
AMANDA
You're a reporter, Chris. You should know that sometimes you have
to dig for clues.
CHRIS
Yeah, well excuse me for not wanting to trifle through papers
that probably won't do anything but waste our time! (Pause). I'm
sorry.
AMANDA
No, don't worry about it.
CHRIS
I've just been so on edge lately.
AMANDA
It's okay, really. I know exactly what you're going through.
CHRIS
I think about her all the time. Just being here...I don't know.
AMANDA
Chris, this is where they died. There has to be something here
that's going to help us.
CHRIS
Don't you think the police would have picked up on it if there
was?
AMANDA
Come on, the Bay City Police Department? They didn't even know
their own commisioner killed the police captain.
CHRIS
(smiling)
Yeah, you've got a point. But what about Joe?
AMANDA
What about him? He can handle it his way and I'll handle it mine.
CHRIS
Do you think maybe you're putting a little too much into this?
AMANDA
No. Look, Chris, my husband is dead. Nothing I can do is going to
bring him back, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let his killer
walk free.
As she goes determinedly back to her papers, Chris sighs and we:

LUCKY LADY/SAME DAY
KC sits next to ETTA MAE and holds her hand.
KC
I just want to stay with you.
ETTA MAE
Honey, I love you. But you have to go to school.
KC
Why? Why is it so important that I go now?
ETTA MAE
You and I both know this is about Toni.
KC
Mom --
ETTA MAE
Your staying here is not going to bring her back.
KC
It's not about that. I just don't want to go now. What's wrong
with that?
ETTA MAE
Being accepted into a school like Harvard is a major
accomplishment. Why do you want to screw that up?
KC
I'm not. I'm just not going now. I can reapply later.
ETTA MAE
And in the mean time?
KC
In the meantime I'll go to BCU. They have a decent Journalism
department.
ETTA MAE
Decent? You're not going to get the same education at BCU that
you would at Harvard.
KC
And I will at Harvard - later.
ETTA MAE
I can't believe you're letting this opportunity slip through your
fingers.
KC
And I can't believe you're not trying to be a little
understanding here.
ETTA MAE
Excuse me if I care about your education.
KC
I care about my education too. I know what I'm doing. Why can't
you accept that?
ETTA MAE
Because this is about more than your education. This is about
your sister dying and your inability to cope with that.
KC
Right, Mama. My sister died. Your DAUGHTER died! You want to make
me go back to school to leave you here alone? You wouldn't let
Daniel and Keith stay! You wouldn't let Judy stay! Why can't you
let ME stay?
KC walks away from Etta Mae as we:
