Chapter 4
Z is in the park with two men. One is Marty, his right hand man and the
other is just a PC contact who goes by the name of Pit.
Pit: Is it safe here?
Z: You picked the place.
Pit: We should be all right.
M: Why don't you tell us what you know about Dante. Does he know where we are?
Pit: No, you successfully got out of Canada without him knowing, but he has
guys out all over.
Z: What does he want exactly?
Pit: You know he found out about you and Marty screwing him out of that
major deal a few years back.
Z: Yeah, but he wants more than that. He took out twenty of my guys, all
trying to get to me. Now, what is he after, besides the money he lost out on?
Pit: He wants all of it. The business, your man power, connections, money,
everything.
M: It is more personal than that.
Z: Man, Dante has been after me since my mom died. He knows I got all of
what her father left her, plus what I have added on myself. He wants my
entire force?
Pit: Apparently. He feels swindled at what your mom did.
Z: He doesn't know about Brenda or Stone, does he?
Pit: No.
M: They will be safe, I promise.
Z: You both know that this may be it. Dante is coming full force and my
guys are slipping, slowly, but surely. You know what will happen, I mean,
it is only a matter of time before Dante finds the papers that will screw
him for good.
Pit: We have some time yet, don't worry. We are working on this around the
clock. Now, you need to stay low during this time, be social, but don't
conduct business. The less activity done with your organization right now,
the better.
Z: We can handle that. Our last major shipments were sent out, everything
has been taken care of.
Pit: Good.
Z: I have one small favor to ask.
Pit: What is it?
Z: Can you find anything out about what Lily Rivera is up to.
M: Hernando's daughter?
Z: Yeah. She's hanging around PC and I think she is going to cause some
trouble for Brenda and her boyfriend.
Pit: Sure, I'll check around for you.
Z: You can let Marty know. It will be better that way.
M: You have my number Pit.
Pit: Sure. I'll be in touch with both of you soon.
Z: (puts his hand out)Good doing business with you again Pit.
Pit: Same here boys.
Pit leaves.
M: Brenda knows to contact me.
Z: She knows the way.
M: How is she? I have missed her.
Z: She's good. I'll tell her you said hello.
M: She's dating someone huh?
Z: You still have a crush on her?
M: She's so..
Z: Watch it buster. She's very much in love, sorry.
M: As long as she's happy.
Z: She is. Look, I've get going, I'll talk to you later on tonight. Oh and
get someone on Pit, I'm not overly concerned, but you never know.
M: Got it. I'll catch up with you later. Oh and I'll check a little into
Lily as well, I still have buddy who works for the Senor, so, I'll see
what I can find out.
Z: Thanks.
They part.
Sonny is at Lukes, doing some paperwork. Mike enters.
Mike: Hello Sonny.
Sonny: Mike.
Mike: How are you?
Sonny: Fine. (he doesn't look up)
Mike: I'll be in the back. (He goes to walk away)
Sonny: Mike?
Mike: What?
Sonny: Has Brenda been around at all today?
Mike: I haven't seen her since last night.
Sonny: Oh.
Mike: Is she okay?
Sonny: She's fine.
Mike: Right. (He goes into the back)
Sonny: What does that mean? (Mike doesn't hear him)
Harry comes in.
Harry: Sonny, some major stuff is coming in tomorrow.
Sonny: Where?
Harry: Pier 37, word is, it'll be here around midnight.
Sonny: Thanks Harry.
Harry: You are going beat Joe you know. You are stronger and a lot smarter
than he is giving you credit for.
Sonny: I just want it over you know.
Harry: I know. I'll see you later.
Sonny: Thanks Harry.
Sonny goes into Luke's office.
Sonny: Harry just stopped by. A new shipment is coming in tomorrow. Pier
37, around midnight.
Luke: We're in business.
Sonny: How do you want to handle it?
Luke: No partner, me, not we.
Sonny: I'm not letting you do this alone.
Luke: I won't be doing it alone. But, not with you. Sonny, Joe has to
believe you are not a part of this. He doesn't want me, he wants a piece of
you.
Sonny: Who then?
Luke: I'll take care of that.
Sonny: Let me know.
Luke: Dinner time is approaching.
Sonny: Yeah. Hey, you haven't seen Brenda at all today, have you?
Luke: No, she hasn't been around here.
Sonny: I'm going to call Lois. I'll talk to you later.
Sonny leaves and goes back upstairs. The apartment is dark, neither Stone
or Brenda were there.
Sonny picks up the phone and calls Lois.
Lois: Hello?
Sonny: Lois, its me.
Lois: Hey partner.
Sonny: What's going on?
Lois: Nothing really. Eddie just finished a rehearsal with the guys and I
just talked with Miguel.
Sonny: Wonderful.
Lois: Corinthos, would you stop with the jealousy routine, it is getting old.
Sonny: How is the tour going?
Lois: Fine. He's coming home in a few weeks. He'll be here for the wedding
and to start filming the video.
Sonny: Good. Hey,Lois, is Brenda around?
Lois: No, she left a few minutes ago. What is up with you two anyway, she
was all glum, but wouldn't say a word.
Sonny: Nothing. I just haven't seen her all day.
Lois: And you miss her.
Sonny: Lo..
Lois: Don't even try it Corinthos. It's all right to miss her, God know I
miss Nedley when he is apart from me.
Sonny: Do you know where she was going?
Lois: I don't know. She'll be back later.
Sonny: Yeah. I'll talk to you later.
Lois: Sure.
They hang up and Sonny goes to take a shower and get changed for dinner.
Brenda had gone to see Lucy and then went to buy a new dress for dinner.
She and Sonny just missed each other again. Z and Stone were already
downstairs by the time Sonny got down there. He looked around, but still
didn't see Brenda.
Stone: Hey, Sonny, over here. (Sonny walks over to the table)
Sonny: Brenda's not here yet?
Stone: You know Brenda is never on time.
Z: She hasn't changed, huh?
Stone: Brenda, no way. Z, this is Sonny, Sonny, my cousin Z. (the two men
shake hands)
Z: Nice to meet you. Stone and Brenda have told me a lot about you.
Sonny: All the good stuff I hope.
Z: Nothing but.
Sonny sits down.
Sonny: So, how did you wind up meeting Brenda? Come to think of it, Stone,
how did you even meet Brenda? (Just then Brenda walked in. She had on a
simple black dress, cut above the knee, with long sleeves. Stone and Z saw
her first)
Z: I think Brenda should tell that story. (Brenda walks to them and stops)
Brenda: Hello boys.
Sonny: (looks at her and gets up)Hi. (kisses her on the cheek and pulls her
chair out, he can't take his eyes off of her) You look beautiful.
Brenda: Thanks. So, what were you all talking about?
Stone: Sonny wanted to know how you met this guy and me.
Brenda: Oh.
Sonny: Yeah, you never did tell me that story.
Z: And what a story it is.
Brenda: How I met these guys. Well, it goes back to.....
At Lukes, Brenda/Sonny/Stone/Z having dinner...
Brenda: Lets see, I was living at my fathers house in New York and I guess
I was 12 at the time. He had brought me there because Julia was off at
school and he had nobody to watch me. He had some business to take care of
and couldn't leave me home, so, I had to go to one of his offices in New
York..
Z: Meanwhile, Stone and I and were hanging out outside the building. Stone,
you were what 10 and I was 14 I guess. We saw her walk in and decided to
follow her.
Sonny: Are you saying that Brenda was attracting men at that young age?
(smiling at her)
Z: You better believe it. Stone here at a crush on her.
Stone: Seeing my girl over here, I finally got out of that phase where I
thought girls were icky.
Brenda: Who's telling the story here?
Z: I'm sorry continue.
Brenda: I saw them when we walked in. My father was like seven feet in
front of me, yelling at me to keep up. I waved to them and had them follow
me inside. I remember it was really cold outside and they looked cold. And,
I thought, hell, my father is going to be here all day, so why can't I have
some fun? So, they followed me in and I snuck them up the back steps. When
my father left me in his office, I snuck them past his secretary.
Sonny: And how did you do that?
Brenda: I had my ways even then.
Stone: Brenda was a sneaky one.
Sonny: Putting his arm around her, I know that.
Brenda: We were all hungry so I decided to order some food for all of us.
Z: Some food, you ordered pizza, french fries, subs, everything.
Brenda: We had quite a party, didn't we?
Sonny: Babe, how did you pay for it?
Brenda: (laughing)I stole my fathers credit card and charged it. We just
hung out in his office and when he came back, wow, was he mad at me. He
threw Stone and Z out and took me home.
Z: Whatever happened when you got home?
Brenda: (sadly)Nothing. He brought me through the front door and left. I
didn't see him the rest of the night.
Sonny: Then what happened?
Z: We followed her home. And threw pebbles at every window until she
answered. She came down and let us inside.
Stone: We had a sleepover.
Sonny: We didn't have a sleep over the first time we met.
Brenda: That's because I wasn't 10 when I met you. So, they stayed over
that night. We sat up watching tv, eating ice cream and just talking. And
my father, never knew. I think he actually left that night. And from that
point on, we were inseparable.
Sonny: You mean to tell me you lived in New York all that time and we never
met?
Brenda: I wasn't there all the time. After a few day, we went back to our
house in Connecticut.
Stone: But Brenda here, came to the city quite often.
Z: yes she did, including taking an entire two months off from school.
Sonny: You did what?
Brenda: I gave myself a vacation from that horrendous bording school my
father sent me to.
Sonny; Weren't you in the alps somewhere?
Brenda: You think that would stop me?
Sonny: I guess not. I don't think I want to know how you got away with that
one.
Brenda: You probably don't.
Stone: Hey guys, remember the dance competition?
Z: Oh man that was the best.
Brenda: That's enough, I don't want to talk about the competition.
Sonny: What competition?
Z: Brenda, do you not tell this man anything?
Brenda: And ruin the sweet reputation he believes I have, never, a girl has
to have some secrets.
Sonny: (kissing her) There's no way you would ruin anything that I feel for
you baby. So, I want to hear about this dance competition.
Brenda: Z, you tell him the story, but I'm telling you, I'm not dancing.
Z: Oh, we'll see about that babe. You see Sonny, Stone and I decided we
wanted to take a vacation from the city, so, we needed to get some cash
together in a short amount of time. Brenda didn't have a lot because her
father and Julia controlled all Brenda's money, so we figured if we could
win something, it would be cool.
Stone: So we played every radio game, got people to buy lottery tickets for
us, we tried everything. Then one day, we were walking down the street and
saw this sign for a beginners ballroom dancing contest. The winners would
get 10,000 dollars. So, we figured, what the hell, let's try it.
Sonny: Stone, I've seen you dance, and it is not ballroom material.
Stone: Not me, Brenda and Z, they were the dancers, I was just their manager.
Z: We won on the tango. And Brenda's good looks helped us too.
Sonny: The dance for lovers. (looking at Brenda and holding her hand
tightly) So, how did you learn to tango?
Brenda: My mom taught me.
They continue talking, as Luke walks by. He hears the word tango and stops..
Luke: Who tangos?
Sonny: My beautiful girl here and her friend Z.
Z: You don't happen to have any tango music do you?
Brenda: Luke, don't worry about it, I'm not going to tango.
Luke: Why not darling, I'd love to see some excitement in here tonight. Why
don't you sir and junior over here come into the back with me and I'll look.
Z: Sure, come on Stone. (they get up and go with Luke, leaving Sonny and
Brenda)
Sonny: Why didn't you ever tell me any of this?
Brenda: I never thought you cared to know.
Sonny: Of course I want to know, I love you, you know that, don't you? (she
looks down at her hands)
Baby, I missed you today. Where were you all day?
Brenda: I had a lot of stuff to do.
Sonny: You didn't call or come home once. I thought that maybe you were mad
at me or something.
Brenda: I'm not mad Sonny, I just had things to do. Besides, you like
having your privacy, I thought you would like it if I wasn't around for a
while, so you know, you could get stuff done.
Sonny: (turning her head to face him)Sweetheart, I miss you if you leave
the room for 2 seconds. I know I left without saying goodbye this morning,
I'm sorry. You were still sleeping and I didn't want to wake you, besides,
we had a very active night, if you remember. (smiling)
Brenda: I remember. I just thought that maybe, ya know, last night, maybe
you just...
Sonny: (kissing her on the lips)Never. Last night, like every time we are
together, was/is amazing. (he kisses her again) And tonight, after the club
closes, I'll show you just how amazin it is.
Brenda: Promise?
Sonny: I promise. (kissing her again and doesn't stop until Stone and Z
return)
Z: Sorry to interrupt guys, but Bren, it looks like we're in luck
Brenda: Luke didn't have the music?
Stone: Oh no, he did. He's starting it right now.
Z: (holding his hand out to Brenda)My dear, may I have this tango?
Brenda: (taking his hand)I'm leading this time.
They walk onto the dance floor and begin to dance. They capture the
attention of everyone in the room Sonny can't keep his eyes off of Brenda,
even when Joe walks into the room, his eyes are still on Brenda. And Brenda
and Z are like 1, dancing. They flow across the floor, hitting every step,
every beat, as if they were pros. Stone knew the importance of this dance,
he knew what it would've meant to their mother if she could see her two
children dancing together, with everyone in awe of their beauty. When, the
dance ended, the entire club applauded,as Z led Brenda back to the table.
Stone: Oh man, you guys are even better than at that contest.
Sonny: You were terrific baby. And Z, you've got some good dancing feet there.
Z: This one, (putting his arm around Brenda)taught me everything I know.
She deserves the praise, not me.
Sonny: I intend to praise her.
Sonny, Stone and Z continue talking, when Brenda realizes that Joe is
looking towards them. He can only see Z's back, but she know if he comes
over, then that could mean trouble.
Brenda: So Z, what about Paris?
That phrase had been a code phrase they had always used when trouble was
around. It meant nothing to them, except that it was always their dream to
go to Paris with their mother, because she had always talked about it.
Stone picked up on it and helped Brenda out.
Stone: Z, buddy, I hate to do this, but I am wiped out and I have an early
morning tomorrow. I think I need to go up and get some sleep. It was a good
night all.
Z: (understanding what was up)Yeah, I need to get moving too, I have stuff
to do all day tomorrow. Thanks for the evening everyone and you, (looking
at brenda)were as spectacular as always.
Sonny, it was nice meeting you and its nice seeing that my girl here is
happy. You are a lucky man.
Sonny: (putting his arms around Brenda)Don't I know it.
Brenda: Honey, I'm going to walk Z out, then I'll be back in.
Sonny: Okay. Good night Z, Stone.
Sonny walks to the bar and stops to talk to Joe. Z and Brenda leave and
Stone goes upstairs. Joe did not see Z, though, he questioned Sonny about him.
Joe: Who was that with you and Brenda?
Sonny: Just an old friend of Brenda's and he is Stone's cousin.
Joe: he seemed pretty interested in Brenda.
Sonny: No worry there, the man swings in the opposite direction.
Sonny looks towards Lucy who was sitting at the bar and gets up to come
their way.
Lucy: Mr. Scully, I have been waiting for you all night.
Joe: Oh really? Well, can I buy you a drink?
Lucy: Yes, that would be great. (they walk to the bar and sit, while Sonny
goes to find Luke)
Outside to Z and Brenda..
Z: Thanks for getting me out of there. So that was Joe Scully, the guy you
talked about?
Brenda: Yeah, I just didn't want to take a chance they he would connect you
and Dante.
Z: It was a good night sis, I had fun. And dancing with you again, mom
would be proud.
Brenda: I know.
Z: I like Sonny, he seems like a good man. And he clearly loves you.
Brenda: It feels good knowing you like him. Stone is really the only person
around here that really approves, besides Lois.
Z: Hey honey, I need to split. I'll catch up in a few days and let you know
whats up. And hey, let me know what happens with Stone, all right?
Brenda: Yeah. Bye.
Z: Bye.
Z disappears into the night and Brenda goes back inside. She doesn't see
Sonny around, but sees Mike at the bar.
Brenda: Mike, when Sonny comes back out, tell him I went upstairs and I'll
wait up for him.
Mike: Sure thing sweetie.
Brenda goes upstairs and sees Stone sitting on the couch.
Stone: Hey, good night, huh?
Brenda: Like old times. Stone, you feeling all right?
Stone: I was watching you guys dance and I remembered, your mom.
Brenda: Stone...
Stone: You think I have what she had?
Brenda: It crossed my mind.
Stone: It would make sense you know.
Brenda: Look, you go see Dr Collins in the morning, I'll meet you after and
we'll talk to Alan and see what's going on.
Stone: I'm scared Brenda.
Brenda: (she holds him)I'm here Stone, always. We'll go together, we'll see
what happens, then, we'll go from there.
Stone: It stays between us right now, Sonny, Robin, I don't want them to know.
Brenda: Between us. Now, go and get some sleep and I'll see you tomorrow.
Stone: You are the best Brenda. Thanks. (he gets up to go to his room, then
turns around and says)You know, when you were dancing, Sonny couldn't keep
his eyes off of you. It was like nobody else was in the room. Goodnight Bren.
Brenda: Night Stone.
Stone left. Brenda went and changed, then came back out and sat on the
couch. She dimmed the lights down and waited for Sonny.
Downstairs.... Sonny comes out with Luke talking. Mike is still behind the
bar and Lucy and Joe are talking at the bar. Lucy has Joe's complete
attention.
Luke: Well, partner, it's working.
Sonny: Yeah it looks like it. Tell me again why you are using Mike to help
out with the shipment?
Luke: I trust him Sonny. Don't worry about it, this is in my court and I
know what I'm doing.
Sonny: I sure hope so. (Mike comes over to them)
Mike: Excuse me, Sonny...
Sonny: Can't you see we are talking here?
Mike: Fine, you don't want your message, I won't tell you. (begins to walk
away)
Sonny: What message Mike.
Mike: Brenda came back in, she said she would meet you upstairs.
Sonny:Thanks. (mike leaves for the back)
Luke: So, things patched up between you and the sexy model?
Sonny: (smiling)Working on it.
Luke:She's quite a dancer. And Z, an interesting guy.
Sonny: What did you think of him?
Luke: More going on there then what meets the eye, but, I liked him.
Sonny: Me too.
Luke: Hey man, go upstairs, be with Brenda, it's dying down here. I'll keep
an eye on our plan. And I'll talk to you tomorrow.
Sonny: Night Luke.
Sonny goes upstairs, opens the door and sees Brenda looking out the
window. He walks up behind her and wraps his arms around her.
Sonny: So, will you teach me how to tango?
