F*CK SPIN MAGAZINE....

alright, i am sure you probably have already heard about the whole matt stone and trey parker vs. spin thing that took place a while back....but just incase here's a little background information on the whole thing...

THE ACTION:

COVER WARS AT ROLLING STONE, SPIN (from NY Post)

By MARY HUHN Spin and Rolling Stone are at it again. This time, Spin is rushing out a new cover to bust up an exclusive Rolling Stone cover photo. In their latest covers battle, the music magazines both feature Comedy Central's wacky South Park on issues due out next week.

Rolling Stone had worked with Comedy Central to get the exclusive on the cable network's sizzling smash hit. But Spin got word of it, decided to push up the production schedule of their March issue with their South Park cover, so the magazines would hit the newsstands at the same time.

The South Park story had already been in the works at Spin, which was considering doing a cover story. Spin moved its piece inside when it learned Comedy Central was giving Rolling Stone the exclusive. At the eleventh hour, they decided to go for it.

"We changed our minds at the last second" explained Michael Hirschorn, Spin editor-in-chief. "^We thought_, why don't we do it as parody of the show and the way stars are portrayed on magazine covers." Hirschorn said the cover decision had more to do with the hot show and the idea, rather than Rolling Stone's cover.

In addition to the South Park cover story, Spin has an interview with the co-creaters, a highly-speculative look at the show's second season, pyschological profiles of the main characters and summaries of the show's first season.

Rolling Stone had its cover art created by the show's creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The Rolling Stone cover features Kyle, Stan, Cartman and Kenny. Because Spin didn't have Comedy Central's blessing, the magazine had to create its own artwork. Industry sources say Comedy Central sent a letter to Spin indicating its disapproval. A spokeswoman at Comedy Central confirmed the existence of a letter, but would not confirm its content.

The Spin cover parodies the famous Rolling Stone cover of a semi-nude Janet Jackson with Chef's hands wrapped around Cartmen's chest. "Every time they copy us, they bring up the inevitable comparisons, which is fine with us," said Bob Love, who was recently promoted to Rolling Stone's managing editor.

THE REACTION:

TV Guide

Friday February 13th, 1998 South Park Duo Try Spin Control South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker try to stop Spin Magazine cover.

South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker may be going Hollywood, but they used old-fashioned grass-roots methods to scuttle Spin's unauthorized South Park cover. The pair recently blasted the music mag in a scathing post to a popular South Park fan site. The dismissive missive asks true believers to avoid Spin. "In fact, make it a point to tell everybody you know that Spin magazine is [the] lamest piece of [expletive] since Teen Beat," urge the authors. "Spin has always been nothing more than a cheap Rolling Stone wannabe."

Parker and Stone had granted exclusive access and cover art to Rolling Stone months ago. When Spin got wind of the planned cover, it speedily put together its own South Park "parody" cover, with a character who looks like Cartman but was not drawn by Stone and Parker, setting up one of those "our cover looks exactly like yours" newsstand confrontations. Meanwhile, when they're not getting overheated about perceived misuses of their gravy train, Stone and Parker are hatching deals to direct live-action movies, create more TV shows and otherwise become "a large media force" — a description they apply derisively to Spin. — Sandra Contreras

TREY'S LETTER: (taken from some site that took it from beef-cake)

Dude,

Matt and I are PISSED OFF, so we thought you'd be the best vehicle to get word out to our fans.

SPIN magazine (heretofore referred to as the LAMEST PIECE OF SH-T MAGAZINE IN THE WORLD) has printed a cover and articles that are ENTIRELY NOT ENDORSED OR SUPPORTED BY US.

What happened was, Spin magazine got pissed off at us because we decided to supply artwork to Rolling Stone for a cover instead of them. SPIN has always been nothing more than a cheap, Rolling Stone wannabe, and so when they found out we wanted our cover on Rolling Stone instead of them, they cried like four year olds and then decided to retaliate by printing their own cover and a bunch of lies about us and our show. They also made up their own upcoming episodes, just to try and get our fans pissed off at us. Unfortunately, the writers at SPIN are about as talented as Cathy Lee Gifford on pain killers, and their creativity in made-up episodes proved it.

SPIN magazine thinks that because they are a large media force, they can ruin our show and our reputations. Our only defense is the web, and our fans.

SPIN wrote what they wrote because we hurt their feelings -- well, now we're telling Spin they can ---- OFF. We will never bow down to their communist power plays. Last month they printed a ton of lies about our friend Marylin Manson, and now they're trying to do it to us. ---- YOU, Spin, and ---- your pets, too.

Buying SPIN magazine is like going to K-Mart in Cambodia and watching your father have sex with another man. So PLEASE don't support SPIN. If you like SOUTH PARK - DON'T BUY SPIN - IN FACT, MAKE IT A POINT TO TELL EVERYBODY YOU KNOW THAT SPIN MAGAZINE is lamest piece of sh-t since Teen Beat.

South Park fans unite!!

Or don't... we're just ----ing pissed off.

now spin responded to trey's letter by making a post in the NY post or times or something like that but i wasnt able to score a copy of that yet..but when i do i will put it up..i think i might have it somewhere but i gotta dig..until then..suck it up..anyway..that just gives you a little insight into the whole mess...
