Chapter five

Jason's Penthouse

Jason is seated at the desk staring at a laptop computer. Suddenly there is a
knock at the door and Jason flips it shut looking up expectantly.

Renaldo
opens the door. "Jason, Lucky Spencer is here to see you"

Jason stands up and starts for the door as Lucky comes through it. "Hey
Jason" Lucky said. "I'm sorry that I haven't been able to work for a few
days....but I've been out of commission." Lucky grinned and Jason smiled
back.

"I heard what happened Lucky, how're you doing?" Jason asked, concerned "I
promised your dad that you wouldn't be in any danger working for me, and then
you go and get stabbed by your girlfriend." Jason was grinning again.

Lucky smiled at Jason and then got serious. "Jason, how did you know who
stabbed me, I thought that they had kept that out of the media?"

Jason stared at Lucky for a moment "Do you think that I get any of my
information from the media? I have sources in the police department. When I
heard that you had been hurt, I wanted to make sure it had nothing to do with
you working for me."

Lucky looked relieved but still concerned. "So you know the whole story
then?"

Jason put his hands on his hips and nodded "But I've known the whole story for
a long time."

"What....how?" Lucky looked confused

Jason walked over to Lucky and put his hand on his shoulder, steering him
towards the couch. "Sit down and I'll tell you what I mean."

Audrey's house

Liz is sitting on her bed listening to her tape again, only this time she is
smiling and hugging a pillow.

Audrey walks into her room and smiles to see Liz looking so happy. "Elizabeth
I'm...." Audrey trails off and listens to the song coming from Liz's radio.
"Elizabeth is that Lucky Spencer singing?"

Liz nodded shyly and smiled "He wrote it, and sang it for me, it's even him on
the guitar," she said proudly.

Audrey smiled at Liz "What a sweet gesture Elizabeth. It certainly looks like
it is cheering you up. In fact I came to tell you that Lucky had been
released from the hospital today."

Liz hopped off the bed and hugged Audrey. "I know, he came by to see me."
Liz pulled away from Audrey and looked up at her. "Gram, I know that I
haven't been the easiest person to live with lately. But I want you to know
that all that is going to change now."

"Nonsense Elizabeth...." Audrey started to say

"No Gram, it's true. I know now that I may never find out who raped me and I
know that by continually dwelling on it, I am letting him control my life."
Liz stood up straight and looked at Audrey. "I'm going to get on with my
life! I'm not going to hide in the shadows anymore. I'm tired of hiding!
It's time that I showed him that he may have won the battle. But the war is
mine!"

"Why Elizabeth." Audrey looked shocked "I'm so happy to hear that, but you
know that it won't happen overnight?"

Liz nodded "I know that Gram, but eventually it will happen, and when it does,
that means that I have won." Liz smiled sadly "I'm going to continue in
therapy with Dr. Baldwin because I know I need it, and there will probably
still be times when I am overwhelmed with memories. But I am determined to
make those times fewer and fewer until they are no more."

Audrey reached out to hug Liz "Honey, I know that I haven't been the easiest
person to talk to about this. But you know that I'm always here if you need
me?"

"Of course I do Gram, but right now I have something else to discuss with
you." Liz smiled widely at Audrey. "I have a date on Saturday!"

Jason's Penthouse

"So Jason, how is it that you know what happened to Elizabeth?" Lucky asked

Jason looked at Lucky and nodded as though coming to a decision. "Lucky you
know that I have access to information that the average Port Charles citizen
doesn't."

Lucky nodded although it obviously wasn't a question

"Well, when Robin disappeared after Michael was kidnapped, the last place she
was seen was in the park, with your brother."

Lucky interrupted "He's NOT my brother, he's my mother's other son."

Jason nodded and fought a grin. "Yeah, I've got one of those too."

Lucky looked blankly at Jason

"I've got someone that everyone keeps insisting is my brother, but I don't see
it that way." Jason grinned.

Lucky nodded and motioned Jason to go on.

"When Robin was kidnapped I wasn't completely sure that it was connected to
Michael's kidnapping, especially since Michael's kidnapping didn't appear to
be connected to my work." Jason continued "Since the park was the last place
that Robin was seen, it was the first place I looked for answers."

"I still don't get how you found out that Elizabeth was raped?" Lucky asked

"I went to my police contact to find out if anyone else had turned up missing
from the park, but the only thing he could find was a rape report from
February. I did some checking, but since it didn't appear related to Robin I
dropped it, and I hadn't really thought about it again until last week."
Jason paused

"So," Lucky prodded "What happened last week?"

"The rape victim showed up in my garage and was waxing my cars." Jason said
wryly.

"How did you know that Elizabeth was the rape victim?" Lucky smiled,
remembering Liz's visit to him during work.

"Lucky, when you are in the business that I'm in, you don't let just anyone
around your cars," Jason said "When Elizabeth showed up, Johnny notified me
that you had a visitor, I had her checked out. It didn't take too long to
match her name to the rape report." Jason explained.

Lucky nodded, but seemed disturbed. "How many people know about this Jason?
Elizabeth is sensitive to people finding out."

Jason nodded "Only me and my contact at the PCPD. And no one else will find
out. It's no one's business but her own." Jason paused then nodded and
continued "However, if you want any help in finding the guy that did it, I'd
be happy to do some checking for you. I understand that the case has recently
been closed?"

Lucky started to shake his head and then reconsidered "Man, this thing has
really taken it's toll on her, she just recently discovered that the person
she thought it was didn't do it. So now she has decided to just move on, but
I know that until she finds out she will always live in fear." Lucky stared
at Jason with tears in his eyes "Jason, man, I don't want that for her.
She's special!"

Jason smiled and stood up "She must be for you to care so much about her.
I've heard that Spencer's don't love easily, but when they do, it lasts
forever." Jason looked steadily at Lucky "I'll do what I can for you Lucky.
And I'll make sure that as few people possible are involved."

"Thanks Jason, but I have another favor to ask." Lucky grinned "I know that
I haven't been at work this week, but I was wondering if I could get an
advance on my salary?"

Jason pulled out a roll of bills and started counting "Mind if I ask what you
need the money for?" Jason asked handing over several hundred dollars

"Sure, I'm taking Elizabeth out for our first date." Lucky smiled nervously,
stuffing the cash in his wallet. "I want to do something special and I had to
make sure I had enough money to do it right."

"Well, then," Jason said, peeling off several more large bills "come to think
of it, I didn't pay you for last week either." Jason looked up to see that
Lucky was about to protest "Lucky, I already told you that your dad was one
of the people to help me when I needed it. Now let me help you, by making
sure that you can take Elizabeth on a date to remember."

Audrey's house

"Well, Elizabeth, it will be nice to see you and Lucky doing something
conventional for a change." Audrey smiled "Do you know where the two of you
will be going?"

"No, but he said that he'd let me know soon." Liz chewed on her lip for a
second "I guess I'll just have to pick out an outfit for every different
possibility" Liz smiled happily and walked to her closet. "First off, these
overalls are going to the Salvation Army, and these jeans....what on earth was
I thinking?" Liz spent several minutes going though her closet throwing
clothes on the floor. Suddenly she stopped and turned around. "These clothes
symbolize the person I became when He raped me," Liz told her grandmother
"and by throwing them out, I am declaring my independence, and taking my first
step towards freedom." Liz gathered up the clothes on the floor and headed to
the door.
