Chapter Eight
"Oh Lucky...I'm not sure that we should go in here," Liz pulled on Lucky's
hand "I don't think I'm dressed right."
"Relax, Elizabeth, it's only for lunch, besides, there isn't a woman in that
place that could hold a candle to you." Lucky looked Liz up and down,
admiring her blue hip hugger slacks and the emerald green shirt that
emphasized her beautiful eyes. Lucky's slow perusal of her attire caused her
to blush. "This is why I asked you not to wear those overalls you're so fond
of." Lucky laughed.
Liz got an indignant look on her face "And is that why you came to New York
impersonating Nik Cassadine?" She asked haughtily
Lucky looked at her for a few seconds as though trying to decide whether or
not to be mad. Then he laughed, looking down at his ensemble of a royal blue
collarless shirt and a pair of khaki slacks, with boat shoes no less. "Yeah
you're right," Lucky laughed again "I am dressed like the Prince." Then he
raised his eyebrows and looked at Liz slyly. "But do I look bad?" He
questioned.
"Ummmmm noooooooo." Liz glanced away and then glanced back grinning. "You're
a hottie!"
Lucky blushed and took her hand again. "As only befits someone escorting the
most beautiful girl here," he mumbled leading her up to the front door
"I can't believe we are going to eat at Tavern on the Green," Liz whispered to
Lucky. "I've read about this place in Danielle Steele books." She giggled
nervously.
Lucky looked down at her and smiled "Being here with you is LIKE a Danielle
Steele book," he said. "Not that I've ever read one of those," he covered
quickly, "my mom....she read them, and talked about them. A lot."
Liz grinned up at him as they were approached by the Matire'd.
"Can I help you?" The man was looking down his nose as he asked them this
disdainfully.
"We'd like a table for two." Lucky said calmly, ignoring the man's demeanor,
"in the Garden if one is available."
Without even glancing at the reservation book the man said, "I'm sorry, we
have nothing available in any of our dining rooms."
Lucky smiled and slid his hand, containing a bill of large numeration, across
the reservation book. "I'm sure that if you look again, you will find that you
have a lovely table in the Garden."
Liz gasped and giggled as the snooty man turned crimson.
"Yes, sir," the matire'd said with a grimace. "I see that you are correct, I
hadn't noticed this cancellation before. If you will follow me." He picked
up two leather bound menu's and led the snickering teenagers to the Garden
dining area.
Liz stopped dead in her tracks. "Omigosh, Lucky this is beautiful!" Liz
exclaimed.
Lucky grinned back at her and pulled her along. "You're gawking, Elizabeth,"
he said under his breath with a laugh.
"Oh....right." Liz composed herself and walked the rest of the way to their
table with a minimum of looking around.
The Maiter'd seated them and handed them their menu's. "I do hope you have a
pleasant meal," he said, as he turned away.
Lucky and Liz waited until he was out of earshot and then burst out laughing.
"I've never seen anyone so rude before," Liz laughed. "How much money did you
give him to get a table?"
Lucky looked at Liz with his eyebrows raised. "Enough to get a good table," he
said cryptically.
Liz smiled widely at Lucky then glanced down at her open menu and choked.
"Lucky," she whispered fiercely. "Look at these prices!"
Lucky looked down at his menu and then looked back up at her, "And?"
Liz had a baffled look on her face. "We can't afford this!" She said, as
though stating the obvious.
"Well, maybe WE can't," Lucky grinned. "But WE aren't paying for it, I am, and
*I* CAN afford it." Lucky laughed at Liz's baffled look. "Listen to me, I
promised you a first date to remember! Now will you forget about how much
things cost and just get what you want?"
"Okay, buddy," Liz said with fire in her eyes. "but you asked for it. I can
be high maintenance when I want to be."
Lucky laughed again "Elizabeth, I knew you were high maintenance from the
moment I met you." He reached across the table and linked his fingers with
hers, and smiled into her eyes. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
