angelusslayer
When they reached the library, Callie hesitated at the door. She could see everything that that had happened, that they had said to her. She was reliving it with surround sound. She closed her eyes, trying to stop the flow of tears.
Angel sensed the turn of her emotions and looked down to see tears fall from her eyes. After sharing a concerned look with Spike, he took her hand and led her away from the door a few feet. He knelt in front of her. He pulled her down into his lap and held her against him like a child.
"Callie? What's wrong, really? This is more than how they treated you. What's really bothering you?"
She only shook her head.
"Angel," Whistler stood in front of the library doors, "bring her in. You're right......there's a lot more bothering her than she'll admit. Than any of you will admit."
Angel stood, still cradling her against him and carried her into the library. He sat her in a chair and took a seat on one side of her while Spike to the seat on the other side. Each held one of her hands protectively.
Whistler took center stage. "What is it with you people? I mean you were at each other's throats. I'll tell ya why too. You still have major issues. None of you have had time to deal with what's been happening. Angel lost his soul, killed people, got his soul back and got sent to Hell. On top of it the slayer skips town-more to worry about. Then Callie is a physcho because she knows that Angel's in Hell comes to Sunnydale to get him out. They leave, come back and yipee the Master's home. All within a few months. You didn't deal with it and it turned each of you into walking time bombs."
"You're probably right. The last few months have been extremely traumatic and we've had no time to mourn our losses." Giles couldn't believe he hadn't seen it before.
"But that doesn't explain what's bothering Callie." Xander interrupted.
"Well," Whistler said, "let Callie explain."
She looked up startled. "You really don't want me to say what I'm thinking do you?"
"Yes, every word of it."
She jumped up and paced the room. On the 16th lap she spun to face Xander, eyes glowing with rage. "You idiots! Can't you see? When I stake a vampire, sometimes I'm staking a dear friend. For almost a century they were the only family I had! Spike, Angel, Dru, Darla....they took care of me. When I would get sick, they would stay with me. We hunted together every night! We laughed and had parities. Grande parties! I always had the best thanks to them. We fought side by side against mobs. And I couldn't stake Alex! I was engaged to him! I loved him! Even after the change we were friends. I can't kill him. I'm sorry but I can't kill another friend. Someone I love. I just can't do it!" She sank to her knees sobbing hysterically. Her shoulders shook with her pain. Pain that she had bottled up and set aside because of more important matters.
Xander stood and walked over to her. He looked to Angel, who nodded carefully. Xander knelt beside her and brought her into a hug. "Oh God, Callie, I'm so sorry. I didn't think. I remember what it was like when I killed Jesse. It hurt so much. I never thought how much worse it would be for you. Can you forgive me?"
She threw her arms around him gratefully. "Of course I do. Thank you, Xander. Thank you."
They looked up when Giles cleared his throat. "I sincerly hate to do this; But there's something I need to tell you all. I found a prophecy yesterday that may concern us all.
It reads:
And there shall be a girl, a combination of light and dark who shall befriend the Slayer. They will fight together, but in a time of discord, the girl will met an old friend. And he will cause her to fall. True love and trust is they key. The strength of what she loves, all she loves shall bring her back. Shall break the spell of emptiness."
"Someone has to say it: Can they vague that up anymore? What the heck does that mean?" As usual Xander was not prophecy guy.
"Well, I suspect it involves Callie. It certainly fits with recent events."
"Oh *no* Giles. *No* way. I'm not in prophecy, impending doom mode. K? In fact I'm going home. Buh-bye." With that she turned to go, only to find Whistler standing in her way.
"Whister, don't say it, cause I'm not listening. I'm going back to the warehouse to crash. See ya."
"Callie, you should at least listen." Angel stepped in hoping to avoid the coming argument.
"Okay! I surrender. I'm listnin'."
"Thank you. Now Callie, I agree that all of you should take the night off and go home. But, meet back here tomorrow morning. Angel, you can get here through the sewers."
"All right, I can handle that. And now I'm going home."
"Callie, wait!" Xander came forward and hugged her. "I'm really sorry, Callie."
"I know. It'll be okay." She answered hugging him back. "I'll see you tomorrow.
If they could only have known what tomorrow would bring.
Spike, Angel, and Callie went back to the warehouse, while the others went to their respective homes. Callista was quite irratated when Whistler followed them back to the warehouse. At the door Callie turned to face him.
"Whistler, go away. I'm not in the mood for a lecture tonight. I'm tired and I want to sleep."
"Too bad Callie, this is bad. I heard Alex was in town."
"Was, I told him to leave."
"Well, guess what. He didn't listen."
Now he had Callies attention. "What?" She looked at her feet and bit her lip thinking. "The prophecy."
"What about the bloody prophecy?"
"It's about me, Spike."
"Callie, you don't know that for sure." Angel was praying that they were wrong, because if they weren't, he could loose Callie."
"Yes, I do. Someone, a combination of darkness and light? A girl who fights beside the slayer, who meets an old friend? A time of discord? What more do you need!"
"You've got a point."
Whistler needed to get Callie calmed down before she went postal. "But we don't know exactly what will happen. Anyway, it says that there's a way to fix everything. Hey, it might not even come true."
"With our luck? Oh, well, no use worrying about it now. It'll keep 'till morning. Right now I just want to sleep."
A voice came from the shadows. "Sorry, Callie, but the prophecy is about to come true."
She knew that voice. "Come on, Alex. Face me, don't hide in the shadows."
He came into the light, except he was not alone. He had with him a group of 15 vampires. Callie couldn't remember seeing them around Sunnydale.
"Alex, what are you doing.?!"
"I'm making you mine again, Callie." He turned to the vampires behind him. "You have your orders, take her."
The vampires stalked forward, confidently. Three vampires, and one good demon, were no match for 15 vampires.
"Callie! Get out of here." Angel was determined to keep her safe.
"What? Angel, I can't leave you guys behind."
He grabbed her by her shoulders. "You have to. It's the only way for any of us to get out of here alive."
"All right. I love you."
"I love you." A quick, but passionate kiss and Callie turned and fled into the night.
"Don't let her get away, you fools! After her." Five went after Callie while the rest stayed to deal with Spike, Angel, and Whistler.
Callie raced through the night, with her vampiric speed, she was nothing more than a blur to the naked eye. But she could hear the vampires closing in on her. She couldn't keep up this pace for ever. Unfortunately, she needed to breath.. They were right behind her, and one, leapt into the air and tackled her. The abrupt smack of her head into the ground, in combination with the speed of the chase, left Callie lying on the ground unconcious. The vampire threw her over his shoulder, and they disappeared into the night.
Spike, Angel, and Whistler, were getting the crap kicked out of them. They were holding their own, but there were just too many. Suddenly, however, Alex clapped his hands and the vampires, backed away into the shadows.
The three demons stood, trying to catch their breath, so to speak, and watched them retreat.
"You know what this means, Angel. It's not good mate."
"No Spike, it's not. They've got Calllie."
"We can't panic. First Spike go call Giles. Tell him to get everyone back to the library pronto."
"Got it, Mate"
"Angel, can you feel where she is? Is she okay?"
Angel closed his eyes and tried to relax. He reached out.....there. "She's alive, but unconcious. I can't really get a fix on her while she's out. She's not too far away though. She's still in Sunnydale."
"Good, she'll be easier for you to track that way."
"Damn! If he hurts her, I drain every drop of blood from him, after I rip his throat out." It was a deadly promise.
"Angel, you can kick his ass with my blessing. But later. Right now we got to figure out a plan."
"You're right." Spike came walking up.
"Everyone is on their way back. Let's go inside, get Dru, and go."
"Well, let's move. I wanna kick his ass."
"God, that hurts." Callie groaned as regained conciousness. She continued as she slowly climbed to her knees. "My, head, my favorite neck. My poor back. Ow."
"You always were sarcastic, even when in pain, Callie."
She didn't even bother to look up. "Ya know, Alex. You just brought, the Slayer, and every vampire in Sunnydale down on your head."
"Not every vampire, dear."
She was still on hands and knees trying to regain her equilibrium. "Well, those vamps aren't from around here, are they Alex?"
"No, they aren't. I found these in New York City."
"Well, Sunnydale vamps are a lot hardier than most."
"Not with you on our side."
She lifted her head to look him in the eyes. She have an unlady-like half laugh, half snort. "Ha. Yeah right. What dream world are you living in these days? I'd never willingly hurt my friends."
"No, you wouldn't. Not as you are now. But without that pesky soul of yours......."
She pulled herself to her feet. "You wouldn't."
"Yes, I would. And now I am." He motioned to the dark and four vampires came to stand between Callie and Alex. One handed him an old book. He opened it to a marked page and began to chant.
Callie felt a sharp pain and fell to her knees. She could feel something being ripped away. In desperation, she reached out to what she loved most in this world. Angel.
"ANGEL!"
The slayerettes were gathered in the library, trying to figure out a way to get Callie back. Though things had been worked out slightly you could still feel the separation in the room. But he had no time for that. Angel was using the link that they shared to track her down and he was getting close. He had it withing a couple of blocks.
He gasped suddenly as he heard her voice in his mind, crying out his name, as a spasm of pain ripped through him. He fell to the floor shuddering and convulsing. It was an eternity before the pain faded away. For a long moment, he couldn't move, couldn't see, and couldn't hear. But he could feel. He experienced a sense of deja vu. Of that wonderful and awful night with Buffy. Of what had happened after. Except this time it wasn't him. It was much worse.
Slowly he became aware of someone cradling his head and calling his name. He forced his eyes to see, to focus, and saw Buffy holding him in her arms, and Willow kneeling beside him on the floor. She held his hand, trying to calm him. Buffy was frightened beyond words. She was so afraid that something was wrong with him. Even after all that had happened she still loved him.
Seeing that Buffy couldn't say anything, Willow saw that she would have to take charge.
"Angel, what happened? What's wrong?"
Angel opened his mouth to answer, but couldn't seem to find his voice. He just lay in shock. Once again, all else faded except what had just occurred. He hardly felt Spike and Dru pull him to his feet, and guide him to a cot that had been set up in the library long ago.
He thought he heard Whistler calling his name but couldn't focus on it. He felt a small hand slip into his.
"Angel. Angel, look at me." The voice was soft and compassionate, but it had an authority to it, it issued a command he could not disobey. Slowly he turned his head to see Willow once again beside him, with the others not too far off to the side. She smiled, hoping to reasure him. "Angel, tell me what happened."
"Oh, God. Willow, it.....it was Callie and.....oh god."
"Sshh." She stroked his hair gently, and held his hand tightly. "Tell me what you felt. It's okay. Just tell me what you felt."
Again he yielded to the compassionate authority in that voice. "It...it was like when I lost my soul. I....heard Callie call my name. And then.....then it-it happened. It felt like something was ripped away from me. Except it wasn't me. It was Callie. Oh, dear lord. She lost her soul!"
He tried to sit up and nearly fell off the cot. Willow steadied him, holding him close as he sobbed quietly on her shoulder, but her mind spun with dread. But she had to deal with matters more close at hand. Such as the distraught, terrified, and haunted vampire in her arms.
"Sshh. Angel, we'll make it right. It's the prophecy. But it said that there's a way. We just have to find it. And we will. I promise." She once again stroked his hair. "I swear to you. We won't loose her."
Slowly he regained his calm. "I'm sorry, Willow it was just so much like when it happened to me. And I don't.....I can't loose her. I won't" He pulled away slowly, then slowly got to his feet. Willow wrapped an arm around his waist, because he was still slightly shaky.
"Don't worry. You won't loose her."
Callista gasped in pain, trying desperately to hold on, but she was slipping. She couldn't let this happen. She could hurt her friends, she could hurt Angel. "NO!" Her mind raged, but she was loosing control of her body. Suddenly, the pain stopped, and Callie stayed huddled on the floor trying to regain her bearings. But really, she felt great. She got to her feet with a cat like grace.
"Well, Callie, how do you feel?"Alex asked.
"I-I feel different. I feel good, strong. Alex, can we go hunting? I'm hungry. It would be so nice to taste human blood."
He came forward took her in his arms and smiled. "Of course, my dear. We'll go on a nice trip to the park. But, first, if you're to be with me.....we must dress you for the part." He gestured and a group of female vampires entered. Show Callie, to her room. Show her all those clothes I've gotten for her, and treat her as you would me."
They nodded, then turned to go, and Callie followed.
When she arrived at her room, she motioned for all but one to leave and entered.
"Where are my clothes?"
"In there, my queen." She pointed to a door beside the bed.
"'My queen' I like that sound of that." She walked to the door, and when she opened it, she found a room, almost as big as the bedroom. And it was filled with clothes for her. All hers. She found elegant dresses, casual clothes, and there. There was what she would wear tonight. It was very different from her normal dress. A black halter top, with black, tight fitting jeans. The jeans she would have worn, but the old, boring Callie, would never have worn that top. Well out in public any way. But this was the new Callie.
She changed into the top and jeans and then set about deciding on the shoes. She chose a pair of knee high boots with one inch heels. She went to a Cedar chest against a wall and opened. it. Inside were all the weapons she could ever want. Swords, daggers, rifles, pistols, some medevil weapons, and a whip. She found holsters and several belts with sheaths inside to. She choose a belt, and place an especially wicked looking daggger inside. She placed smaller ones in each of her boots. She decided that was all that she would need for a simple hunt.
There was a knock at the door. She turned to the vampire. "Answer it."
She opened the door and Alex entered the room, carrying an oak box.
"I have something for you."
"A present? Let me see."
He opened the box and inside was a glittering tiara. "I got this for you long ago." He placed it on her head.
She walked to the mirror and admired herself. "It's beautiful Alex. Thank you."
"You're worth it Princess." He kissed her, and she did not pull away, but remained slightly distant, though she returned the kiss.
"Well," he said when he pulled away, "shall we go?" He took her hand and they exited together. He gathered about 15 vampires to go with them and they went on the hunt.
They reached the park and Callista detected a human heart beat, that was not her own. She motioned for the others to stay quiet and behind her and she began to stalk her prey. Finally she came withing site of him. It was a teenager, but Callie didn't know him from school. She came up behind him, and knocked him out. She caught him and moved his head to the side to expose his neck. She felt her face shift and she drifted towards his neck. Her fangs pierced the skin and she reveled in the sweet taste of his blood. But before she could drink too deeply, someone grabbed her from behind and throw her off.
She whirled, snarling, to confront the intruder, and came face to face with Angel. Her face shifted back to normal. She jumped back surprised. She could see the slayer and the slayerettes standing behind him. "Angel!"
Alex, came to stand beside her, with his arm around her waist. "Angelus, how are you?"
"How could you, Alex? She trusted you. And it's Angel now."
"Angel. Pity. She belongs beside me. Not you. She was mine first." He turned to the vampires waiting for orders. "Let's go. Take, Angel with us."
Spike came from the shadows followed by almost every vampire in Sunnydale. "Not this time, mate."
Alex grabbed Callista's hand. She stood immobile staring at Angel. "Back to the fortress." Pulling Callie behind him, they ran followed closely by the vampires, Spike, Angel, Buffy, and the Slayerettes.
Waiting outside the fortress were at least 100 vampires. Alex pulled Callie past them into the fortress. She ran looking over her should at Angel as though memorized.
Angel, Buffy, Spike and the Slayerettes fought their way past the vampires and into the fortress. It wasn't really that hard, the New York vamps were pathetic. Spikes boys were left to deal with the remaining enemy vamps. The slayerettes were greeted by at least 50 more. At the sight that greeted them they skidded to a stop.
Alex came forward feeling cocky. "Things aren't looking good are they? Here, I'm a good sport, I'll make you a deal. Angel will fight Callie for your freedom. If he wins I let you go. If he looses you die."
The Slayerettes looked at each other uneasily. Buffy moved to Angel. "Angel, can you do this?"
"I don't see that I have any choice. But I can't kill her Buffy."
"I know, and I hope you don't have to."
Angel stepped forward. "I accept."
Alex laughed with amusement. "Give him a sword." He placed one in Callie's hand and she stalked towards Angel. She attacked viciously, They fought with such grace and skill that it almost seemed like a dance. But it was a deadly dance. Angel, was beginning to loose because he was pulling his puches. He didn't want to hurt her. He couldn't. If he died so be it. The fight ensued for what seemed like forever, thrust parry, thrust, and parry again. Angel remembered Callie being better and wondered if part of her didn't want to hurt him. He swiped at her feet and she jumped into the air. He launched a devastating kick that connected with her head. She stopped, dazed, and shook her head trying to clear it. She shook it off too quickly however and the fight renewed. Once moment Angel would pushing her back, the next Callie had the upper hand. But the more he fought the more his resolve lessened and finally Callie disarmed him and kicked his feet out from under him.
She stopped suddenly, sword poised for the death blow and chanted a spell freezing him in place. Slowly tears began to run down her face. She knelt, sword still in hand. She ignored Alex's screams of rage. She kissed Angel gently. And looked deep into his eyes. Even without a soul she couldn't deny their connection. She dropped the spell.
Angel stayed on his knees staring into her eyes. He thought he could see a trace of Callie. A trace of love in those green eyes. *That's it! The prophecy said that love and trust is the key. I hope this works.*
He put out his hand. "Listen, Callie, you know I would never hurt you. This isn't you. Alex has done this to you. I can fix it. You have to trust me. Give me the sword Callie, give me the sword."
"Don't listened to him you idiot! Kill him! You will rule beside me. You can't possibly give it up for him!"
"No," Angel said, still staring into her eyes.
"You know I'm right Callista. Trust me. Give me the sword.
She hesitated plainly torn, then handed the sword to Angel. Her eyes over flowed with tears. He set it down and took her hand. "I love you, Callie." He said, wiping the tears from her eyes.
She wept openly now. "Oh, God. Angel, I-I love you too."
He pulled her to him and kissed her fiercly, passionately. Spike's boys finally fought their way inside, but stopped at what greeted their eyes. A beautiful white light surround Angel and Callie. Slowly, some unseen force lifted them into the air, still locked in the kiss. Callie's hair glowed like fire. Gently they were lowered to the ground again. Callie was unconcious in Angel's embrace. He lay her gently on the ground and took her hand. Her eyes opened and for a moment they glowed with a golden light and she gasped in shock. She looked up at Angel and threw herself, sobbing, into his arms. "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"Sshh it's okay. It wasn't you. It was the spell he put on you. It's not your fault."
Finally Alex recovered his voice. "You traitor!" He gestured to the 50 of his soldiers in the room. "Kill them!"
Callie rose swiftly to her feet. "Stop!" When they did so she continued. "Alex, why? Could you have loved me like that? I was a souless doll without even a personality. How could you reduce me to that?"
"You were vicous and cunning. That was enough for me."
She raised her chin. "Then I challenge you by the ancient rites for leadership. A fight to the death."
"So be it."
She motioned Angel back. and picked up her sword, while Alex claimed Angel's discarded one. The fight that followed was fast and furious. Alex was a skilled swordsman, but no match for Callie. She pushed him back until she had him trapped. He was too busy defending himself to even think of launching and attack of his own. She wept but, resolutely, took him down. She knocked the sword out of his and without hesitating, beheaded him. She stood impassive as he turned to dust.
She turned to the 50 of Alex's vampires. "I now lead you and I'm ordering you out of Sunnydale. You have lost miserably this night. I told you that Sunnydale vampires were stronger than you. Now go!"
They looked at the overwhelming odds and fled. Callie stood frozen, until Angel came up behind her and put his arms around her. She leaned against him, grateful for his support and sobbed quietly. "I had to kill him. I didn't want to but, he gave me no choice. I used to love him. I killed him. I killed him. How could I?"
"You did what you had to do. Like I did with Darla."
The Slayerettes and Spike came over. "Callie?" Oz's voice was concerned.
She hugged him fiercly. "I'm sorry."
"For what? We've had enough experience at this sorta thing to know it wasn't you." Cordy was not going to let her go into a guilt trip like Angel sometimes did.
"Yeah, you would never hurt us, Callie." Xander spoke up holding out his arms. She hugged him gratefully, Buffy and Willow joined the embrace. Soon the whole team was there. Even Spike and Angel joined in.
"Let's not ever let ourselves fight like this again guys." Callie said wiping tears from her eyes. "I mean look what happened. We're stronger together. We split apart and everything gets shot to hell."
"Well, let's see. We conquered evil again. I say we party at the Bronze." Xander's choice for a wind down. Partying at the Bronze.
Callie smiled. "Sounds good." She turned to the assembled vampires. "And I thank you too. I know that we might have to fight as enemies, but until then consider me a friend. I know you already do since you're here, but now you can count on it." She turned to Angel and leaned into his arms. "Ready, Angel?"
"Let's go."
Together they walked towards the Bronze, all of Spike's boys went too. They behaved and didn't kill a single human that night. The teens danced late into the night and early morning.
They needed to forget what had happened and just be together. That was what was important.
The y came back together again. Things for a least a while were perfect.
They still had things to work through and work out, but everything would slowly get better and they would always be a team.
