Episode 28
It's late afternoon in Breckenridge. Paul Harper and his father Kane Garrett are in Billings Park. The leaves are starting to turn, a cool, gentle breeze is blowing, and children are playing on the playground. Kane is in a wheelchair, still recovering from his stab wound, watching the children. He spots a little boy who looks like Paul when he was younger.
Kane: Paul, look at that little boy.
Paul (looking in Kane's direction): He looks like me when I was his age.
Kane: You were wearing almost the same type of clothing when I came to visit you all of those years ago. It's funny how some things really never change. (Pause) You know Paul, your birthday is coming up in two months. What would you like as a present?
Paul: I don't need anything materialistic. I have Tess, I found you, and also a wonderful new family. (Pause) But actually, there is something, rather than someone, I would like to find.
Kane: Your mother. Valerie.
Paul: Yes Dad. My mother.
Meanwhile, back at the Grimes mansion, Everett Burnham is in his room, packing up the rest of his clothes to take with him to his new house. There's a knock at the door.
Everett: Come in! (Marcus Grimes enters the room) Oh hello Marcus. How are you?
Marcus: Wonderful, now that Kane is finally home and Ingrid's back to herself.
Everett: It was rough there that's for sure. I remember when my daughter Jadyn was just two and Cordy and I rushed her to the hospital with a severe fever. The doctors thought she would lose her hearing. You don't know how agonizing the wait was....wow, I'm sorry for rambling on like that.
Marcus: That's okay. Rosamond has told me what devoted parents you and Cordelia are. Actually, the reason I wanted to talk to you is to offer you a job. Grimes Incorporated needs another computer programmer.
Everett: For real? That would be great! But I have to talk to Cordy about it first. This is such a big decision.
Marcus: I understand.
Everett: Cordy's at the new house with Jadyn. I'm going to head over there right now and tell her. Thanks Marcus. Thanks a lot! (He heads out of the room. Marcus smiles and goes over to the window, enjoying the beautiful view of the estate).
