Kane Garrett has just come face-toface with his teenage love Valerie Talbot. Needless to say, both are very shocked to see each other after all of these years.
Kane: I can't believe you're really here right in front of me. It's so good to see you Valerie.
Valerie: You too Kane. (She gives him a huge, warm hug)
Drennen: Are you two done reuniting?
Valerie: Hardly Drennen. We've only just begun. (She closes the door). And if you don't like it, then leave.
Drennen: Fine. It looks like I have no choice anyway. (He grabs his jacket and heads out the door).
Kane: Remember what I said Drennen. Leave Paul alone. (Drennen ignores him, then leaves).
Valerie: What was that about Paul? He isn't----he isn't going to hurt our son is he Kane? Is he?
Kane: Your husband is not a rational man Valerie. Let's sit down and I'll tell you everything.
Drennen is sitting at the bar of the Plumtree Inn Lounge, drinking a whiskey when Eliza Braxton saunters up beside him and sits down. She motions for the bartender to come over.
Bartender: Hey Ms. Braxton, what'll it be?
Eliza: Gingerale with a cherry on top please.
Bartender: You got it. (He leaves to make the drink).
Drennen: Gingerale? Why not something stronger?
Eliza (patting her stomach): I'm drinking for two.
Drennen: Oh. Congratulations.
Eliza: I wish it was happier.
Drennen: What's the matter? Don't you want it?
Eliza: Of course I do. It's just that----the father just broke up with me for somebody else.
Drennen: Welcome to the Heartbreak Hotel.
Eliza: You having romantic troubles too? (The bartender brings her drink).
Drennen: My wife is determined to ruin our marriage by trying desperately to contact the son she gave up for adoption. I don't want her to do this, but she insists.
Eliza (realizing he's talking about Valerie): Do you think her son doesn't want to see her?
Drennen: It's not that. She's neglecting our marriage, our daughters----
Eliza: Daughters?
Drennen: Zoe and Amaya. They're teenagers, but they still need their mother. (Pause) I didn't catch your name.
Eliza: I never gave it. Eliza. Eliza Braxton.
Drennen: Drennen Talbot. Nice to meet you Eliza.
Meanwhile, Lance Grimes and Rosamond Tucker are watching the evening news in the living room and snuggling.
Lance: I told Eliza about us.
Rosamond: Us?
Lance: Yes. That we made love.
Rosamond: And?
Lance: She was suprised. A little sad too. But she has to face facts. I love you now. I wouldn't have said anything if she didn't show up at my office, coming on to me again.
Rosamond: She's trying way too hard. (Snuggling up to him closer, giving him a kiss). But I can see why she wants you so much.
Lance (turning off the TV): I want you so much. (He begins kissing her passionately). Mom and Dad went out to dinner, Roark is studying with Larry and Deanna....we have the house all to ourselves this evening. What are we going to do?
Rosamond: I think I know. (Lance pulls her gently off the couch, and picks her up. He begins to kiss her again as they head for the stairs).
Back at the Talbot's hotel room, Kane and Valerie are discussing their son and what's been going on with each other.
Valerie: Why would Drennen want to hurt Paul?
Kane: He's jealous of your love for him. He thinks you're going to abandon him and your daughters.
Valerie: But that's insane! I want Paul to feel like he belongs, not alienate Drennen or the girls. He's being unreasonable Kane. I'm going to make sure he doesn't do anything to Paul. (Pause) How is he?
Kane: He's doing wonderful. He's getting married this Friday to a lovely girl whose family runs the local diner. He has a great job at my brother-in-law's firm.
Valerie: I talked to Marcus and Ingrid a few days ago. They were so sweet to me. I saw you and Paul at the park. I wanted to come to you so much, but I was afraid how you both react.
Kane: Paul wants to find you.
Valerie: I know that now.
Kane: I think you should come to the wedding. It would mean so much to him. To me.
Valerie: But Drennen and my girls----
Kane: They should understand you need to do this.
Valerie: You're right. I'll come. Oh Kane, I love him so much! Do you ever imagine how our lives would have been if we were able to get married and raise Paul ourselves?
Kane: I used to. But a lot has happened since we parted Valerie.
Valerie: I know. I think it's time we talk about what's happened.
