It's early evening, and Dorothy is behind the counter at the Sherwood Diner waiting on customers. Her mother Loretta comes up beside her, slicing lemon merangue pie.

Loretta: It's good of you to help out tonight Dorothy.

Dorothy: Well, Tess and Paul are still honeymooning and Larry has to study for finals. I didn't have anything to do.

Loretta: What happened with Russell?

Dorothy: He's working a late shift.

Loretta: I like him. He's a very nice man.

Dorothy: He certainly is Mom.

Loretta: Maybe you two will get married.

Dorothy: Woah, slow down Mom. Russell and I are taking things slow. We're not in any big rush.

(Wade Atherton walks through the door, and instantly spots Dorothy. His heart pounding, he slowly makes his way towards her)....

At the Grimes mansion, Rosamond is in the living room straightening up the sofa and waiting for Lance to come home from work when the doorbell rings. She goes to answer it, and finds Eliza standing at the door.

Rosamond: You! What do you want?

Eliza: Please Rosamond, let me in. It's not what you think.

Rosamond (sighing): I can't let you stand there in the cold. Come in. (Eliza enters) So, why are you here Eliza?

Eliza: I came to apologize for my bad behavior. Towards you and Lance. I shouldn't have tried to come between you and I'm sorry.

Rosamond: That's nice, but I'm not buying it. You still love Lance, and you'll try anything to get him back.

Eliza: I do love him, but I realize now our relationship is over. Rosamond, give me a chance to explain. You need to hear me out.

Back to the Sherwood Diner.

Dorothy: Wade! How have you been?

Wade: I'm great. And you?

Dorothy: Wonderful.

Wade: How is your sister and her new husband?

Dorothy: Excellent. You just come from the station?

Wade: He's fine. Listen Dorothy, I know you two are dating, but it's not serious yet is it? I mean---

Dorothy: Wade, what are you getting at?

Wade: Dorothy, I really like you, and I was hoping you would go out with me.

Back to the Grimes mansion.

Rosamond: I guess I have no choice but to hear you out, after all you did come all the way here to talk. Have a seat. (Eliza sits on the sofa). Would you like something to drink?

Eliza: No thank you. Rosamond, I'm telling you the truth. I won't pursue Lance anymore. (Pause) It finally occured to me while Lance and I were at the doctors during my sonogram that he really doesn't want to be with me. He tried to act happy, but I know his mind---and his heart---was elsewhere. And then Lance had an unpleasant run in with Drennen.

Rosamond: Valerie's husband? I don't understand.

Eliza: He and I have become really good friends, but he does tend to be a little confrontational.

Rosamond: So I've heard.

Eliza: He only does it when he tries to be protective. Anyway, he and Lance had a falling out over his friendship with me. Then, Lance told me that defending Drennen, after what he did to Valerie and what he wanted to do to Paul wasn't healthy. Especially since I'm almost seven months pregnant. I needed to focus on my baby, and not having a man by my side romantically. He really opened up my eyes Rosamond. I finally understand he does care about me and our child. That's why I came here to apologize to you Rosamond. And to ask you to be a friend. I need Lance in my life---but as a father to our daughter only. But he and I can't be good parents if we fight over something that doesn't exist anymore. We need to be stable. The best way is if I accept you and be your friend, and stop being selfish. What do you say Rosamond?

Rosamond: You're being sincere aren't you?

Eliza: Yes, I am.

Rosamond: This took guts Eliza. I really admire that. I know will Lance will too. (Offers her hand. Eliza takes it). I accept your truce.

Eliza: Thank you Rosamond. Thank you so very much.
