Christmas is almost here, and a big snowstorm is approaching Breckenridge. But the threat of bad weather isn't scaring people away from holiday plans, especially the town's couples. They are the Plumtree Inn's ballroom attending a Christmas dinner/dance. The ballroom is beautifully decorated with lighted Christmas trees and wreaths, candles, and more lights draping from the ceiling. Lance and Rosamond are dancing as well as some other couples, to a band playing I'll Be Home For Christmas.

Lance: I got you something really special for Christmas.

Rosamond: When did you have the time to shop? Have you even set foot inside a store? (Laughs)

Lance: I went on my lunch breaks.

Rosamond: Did you get some gifts for the baby?

Lance: Yes. I also got Eliza something too. To show my appreciation for her trying to get on with her life.

Rosamond: I did too. I really hope we can truly all get along now, especially for that little baby. (Lance kisses her).

Kane and Valerie are sitting at a table, drinking wine and watching Paul and Tess dance.

Kane: They sure make a lovely couple don't they Val?

Valerie: Yes, they really do. (Sighs) I remember how happy I used to be like that.

Kane: With Drennen?

Valerie: With both of you. Dancing, looking into each other's eyes, making promises of eternity, togetherness, everlasting love. I can't believe after all these years, I would be planning the end of my marriage.

Kane: I never thought Gretchen would get sick and leave me the way she did. I thought we would retire to Florida in ten years and just enjoy life. But things happen for a reason. Like finding our son. That's been the best part, the greatest Christmas gift I could ever receive.

Valerie: I know. It's a wonderful, special miracle. I just wish Drennen could feel the same way. (Kane grabs her hand, and she rests her head on his shoulder).

Meanwhile, Drennen is at Eliza's house sitting on the sofa and curiously wondering why Eliza invited him over.

Eliza: I'm going to get right to the point Drennen about why I asked you over.

Drennen: I was wondering. You sounded urgent on the phone. Nothing's wrong with the baby I hope?

Eliza: She's just fine. But it's you that's not.

Drennen: Me? I don't understand.

Eliza: I've been doing a lot of thinking about my baby, my life, and I've come to a conclusion that you can't be a part of my life anymore. For the past few months I defended you, but after what happened between you and Lance at the doctors, what you've been doing to Lance's family---I can't place myself or my child in that kind of situation. What I'm trying to say is, our friendship is over Drennen. You're not a person I feel comfortable being around.

Drennen: No. Don't desert me Eliza. Don't walk away like Valerie. I need your frienship---please!

Eliza: My mind is made up. I'm sorry. You must understand how unhealthy your behavior is. Take it from me. You have to change, and for the better.

Drennen: I guess I should be going. (Pause) You realize now I'm completely alone. My wife, my girls---now you, pushing me away.

Eliza: It doesn't have to be that way Drennen. Not if you decide to change your feelings towards your stepson and his father, and accept the fact Valerie and your daughters want them---need them in their life.

Drennen: You know I can't do that.

Eliza: Then you'll have to accept being alone.

Drennen: I guess so. (Starts for the door). Goodbye Eliza. It's been nice knowing you. Merry Christmas. (He leaves).

Eliza: God, things have to get better, they have to. Merry Christmas Drennen. (Begins to cry).
