It's Christmas Day in Breckenridge. The snow is done falling and the town is covered in a bright blanket of white and the sun is shining. At the Grimes mansion, the family has opened the gifts and they're together in the living room. Roark and his girlfriend Fawn are looking out the big window at the snow.
Roark: A white Christmas in Breckenridge. After all these years of waiting, we finally have snow.
Fawn: Everything looks so fresh and clean and peaceful. (Marcus and Ingrid come to the window).
Marcus: We had a white Christmas the first year your mother and I were married. We were living in a tiny house with hardly any heat.
Ingrid: We had to wear our coats to keep warm most of the time. But it could've been worse. We could've been homeless. At least we had a roof over our head.
Marcus: Still, it was a wonderful time for us.
Paul and Tess are sitting with Valerie and Kane by the Christmas tree and drinking hot chocolate.
Tess: I'm glad we got married in time to spend our first Christmas together.
Paul: Not only that, I have both my parrents here with me for the holidays, and my sisters too. Where are Zoe and Amaya?
Valerie: They wanted to take a walk in the snow. (Pause) This has been such a pleasant morning, but I feel a little guilty that Drennen is alone right now.
Lance (coming over to her): You shouldn't feel guilty Valerie. He could have been here celebrating with us if he wouldn't be so intent on trying to keep you and the girls away from Paul and Kane.
Kane: That's true, but it is Christmas. Everyone should have someplace to go. I hope Drennen does.
Drennen is walking through the near deserted streets downtown when he spots the Sherwood Diner's Open sign. He enters and sees Loretta at the counter drinking coffee and humming along to a radio playing Christmas music. Drennen goes up to the counter and sits.
Loretta: You're Valerie's husband Drennen aren't you?
Drennen: Yes I am. (Pause) Are you going to chew me out too?
Loretta: Why should I do that?
Drennen: Because of my feelings towards your daughter's husband.
Loretta: It's Christmas. Today isn't the day for fighting with one another. Would you care for a cup of coffee? On the house.
Drennen: Thank you. (Loretta pours him a cup and he takes it, slowly sipping). Mmm, delicious.
Loretta: Do you have anyplace to go today Drennen?
Drennen: Not really. As you probably know, Valerie and my daughters won't speak to me, and they don't want me anywhere near them. So while they're at the Grimes place being happy and loved, I'm out on the street in the bitter cold, feeling miserable and sorry for myself. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
Loretta: Right now you are your worst enemy. But I'm not going to lecture you. (Pause) Would you like to stay here with me today? I don't close until three, and I'm not expecting any big crowds. I have a turkey cooking in the oven, and I made pumpkin pie.
Drennen: That's awfully nice of you. I really appreciate this. Yes, I will stay Mrs. Sherwood.
Loretta: Then it's settled. You stay here and listen to the Christmas music and I'll refill your coffee cup. (She leaves)
