HOW TO GET TO NEGROS OCCIDENTAL

By air, Bacolod is 50 minutes from Manila and 30 minutes from Cebu. Philippine airlines, Cebu Pacific & Air Philippines offer regular flights from Manila and a daily flight from Cebu. Bacolod is also accessible by boat from Manila (20 hours) and Iloilo (1 hour by fastboats and 2 hours by bigger boats). By land from Cebu, Bacolod is approximately 7 hours away.

Ati-Atihan is a popular celebration held every year
in Cadiz City, where almost all the cities in Negros
participate in this joyful and exciting event.




Mt. Kanla-on represents the only natural park in the
Negros-Panay faunal region where a variety of endemic and endangered
species can still be found. It is also one of the few remaining areas
in Negros where forest cover has been left intact, serving as an
important life support system because of its watershed value. Remnants
of culture and history can still be found providing a glimpse of what
Negros was like many hundred of years ago: home of species of plants
and animals that can be found nowhere else in the world, and natural
landscapes at its best.


Wilderness Trekking Tours

Wilderness trekking tours can be arranged by the local Department of Tourism Office and the Negros Mountaineering Club (NMC) to Mt. Kanlaon National Park. The tour can vary from a day’s hike up the borderline of the National Park from Mambucal Resort to about three to four days of full-blown mountaineering trek to the summit of Mt. Kanlaon (2,465 meters) - the highest peak in Central Philippines.

Bird Watching

The 25,000-hectare area of Mt. Kanlaon National Park offers the bird-watching enthusiast the opportunity of observing both migratory and endemic bird species in Mt. Kanlaon. The central highland is populated and is home to a variety of tropical bird species found among existing wildlife. Noted among the more than a hundred endemic species at Mt. Kanalon are the Bleeding Heart Pigeon and the Negros Fruit Dove (Ptillinopus Arcanus) now believed to be on the verge of extinction. A host of other species such as the Barblers and Warblers, Doves, Bulbuls, Flycatchers and Woodpeckers abound within the National Park. Horticulture Mt. Kanlaon in the central highlands of Negros is home to a variety of plant species. Among these are the various species of ferns, lichens and orchids - the Calanthe elmeri, which is one of the more abundant growing orchids endemic to Mt. Kanlaon.
