BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- Top-seeded Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario cruised into the quarterfinals of the French Community Championships with a 6-2, 6-3 victory Thursday over Gala Leon Garcia.
After winning the matchup of Spaniards, Sanchez-Vacario will oppose another compatriot, fifth-seeded Magui Serna. She advanced a day earlier by defeating Kristie Boogert.
Also advancing Thursday to the round of eight were second-seeded Barbara Schett of Austria, No. 6 Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain, Barbara Schwartz of Austria and No. 7 Martina Muller of Germany.
Schett got through with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Libuse Prusova of the Czech Republic, and will play Ruano Pascual. She advanced by beating Silvija Talaja of Croatia 6-1, 6-2.
Schwartz took Eva Dyrberg of Denmark 7-5, 6-4, and will oppose No. 8 Emilie Loit of France. Loit advanced Wednesday by ousting Maret Ani.
Muller eliminated Els Callens of Belgium 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, and will play Myriam Casanova of Switzerland. She got through Wednesday by beating Anca Barna.
