BRUSSELS, Belgium (Ticker) -- Top seed Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario of Spain, seeking her first title of the year, will face unseeded wild card Myriam Casanova of Switzerland in the final of the French Community Championships.
The 31-year-old Spaniard won the first set, 6-4, on Saturday before No. 8 seed Emilie Loit of France retired due to a shoulder injury.
Sanchez-Vicario needed three sets in two of her previous three wins here, including a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over fifth-seed Magui Serna of Spain in the quarterfinals Friday.
A four-time Grand Slam winner, Sanchez-Vicario entered the week having lost three consecutive matches and half of her 28 this season. She has won just one of her 29 career titles since 1999.
Casanova defeated sixth-seeded Spaniard Virginia Ruano Pascual, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, in Saturday's other semifnal.
The 17-year-old Casanova reached the final at another claycourt tournament in April when she lost to Germany's Martina Muller at Budapest. Casanova reached the third round at Wimbledon, losing to Justine Henin of Belgium.
