SMK AGAMA MIRI, TUKAU: THE NEXT GENERATION In year 2000, the school migrated from Piasau to its permanent location in Tukau. Once the school had settled down nicely in Tukau, it gained a reputation for being one of the most modern and beautiful school in Sarawak. I hesitated to say ..Malaysia.. but that's how it seemed. From not having much equipment nor many facilities way back in Piasau days, the new SMKAM was overflowing with them. I would not describe them here for there were just too many of the good stuffs in the new school. It was suffice to say that teaching and learning took place at a most conducive, comfortable and effective environment. Did I mention that the school was facing the deep blue sea? At different times of the year, the school received many groups of visitors. Some were from primary schools; others from secondary schools; official delegations from the ministry; even people from the University of Brunei. And having a reputation as a gracious host, the visitors were treated to a grand reception, a sumptuous buffet and a tour round the school. Indeed, the school did her best to tend to her guests' needs. SMK Agama Miri was a great place to be because there was unity among the teachers, support staffs and the students. Students were taught from the very beginning to be polite, kind and helpful. And the teachers? They were the embodiment of those virtues (woo-hoo!). If SMK Agama Miri was so great, why did I leave? Simple. I missed home. Hey, I was in Miri, Sarawak for 6 years okay? Besides, so many of the familiar faces had left. And it was simply my time to go. But the memories of teaching in SMKAM, and especially of the students, will always be with me. * I solemnly swear that the titbits were true as of 5 May 1997 until 31 May 2003.
