Elizabeth,
I saw a plea on your Tetbury/Grant pages and had just been looking at this family so replied with the attached below. The email bounced as undeliverable so I wondered if you would like to include some of it in your site, or have another idea for how to get in touch with Tim
Many thanks

Hi Tim,
I have just been looking at this family for my webpages www.tetburyfamilies.co.uk and came across your plea that Elizabeth Janson has on her Tetbury webpages. I don't know if the plea is still relevant or if you have found your ancestor....
Herbert was born c.1870 to Samuel & Ellen Grant, he was christened 3 Jan 1871. I have found one sister so far - Emma Jane who was christened 06 December 1874. (both refs. IGI). Samuel was an agricultural labourer and in 1871 lived on Combers Mead with his wife, Ellen. He and Ellen disappear before the 1881 census, and Herbert was in the workhouse on Gumstool Hill, and Emma was living with her aunt & uncle William Cleverley & his wife Fanny, Samuels sister.
I wonder if Samuel & Ellen went to the USA before, and then sent for the children. In the 1881 census there is another Grant - Alfred who was a year younger than Herbert, but it is not known if he is of the same family.
Keep your eyes on my webpages as I will be uploading Grant family information as I have worked through all the available data I have. Hope the above is of some help, and I hope you track your grandpa down!!
Regards Lynne
