WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA TRACTOR AND TRUCK PULLERS, INC. 2002 GENERAL RULES


THESE RULES APPLY TO VEHICLE IN ALL CLASSES.

1. No consumption of alcoholic beverages permitted in the track or pit area. Anyone believed to be a potential safety hazard would be barred from the pull. Failure to observe rules will result in removal from the track or pit area with no refund of entry fee. Driver is responsible for their pit crew. No pit crewmember is allowed on the track. Except to start or hook up pulling vehicle. No competitor may smoke while hooked to the sled.

2. All contestants must be 12 years old with written parental/guardian consent through age 16. Truck classes must have a valid drivers license.

3. Judges have the right to re-weigh any vehicle or re-measure hitches. Tractor R.P.M's may be rechecked anytime during or after the pull.

4. Contestant has 75 feet to decide on change of gears. Only one restart per hook. A re-start is permitted in a pull off.

5. Driver must remain seated and have control of the pulling vehicle at all times.

6. The tires of any pulling vehicle must remain within the boundaries of the contest course.

7. The pulling vehicle must be stopped immediately on signal from the track judge. Pull is considered over when forward motion of load stops. No hole digging.

8. All pulling vehicles must be in neutral or park while being hooked and unhooked.

9. First puller in each class is the test puller and may take the pull if weight transfer is correctly set, or he may immediately take his second pull, or he may pull in sixth position, which is following the next five scheduled competitors. He may drop to the end of the class only if mechanical failure or overheating occurs and is deemed necessary by track judge. Stock tractors drop to third position, all others to sixth position.

9a. When the sled needs adjustment, the first puller of the class has the option to come back and be the test puller. If he chooses not to be the test puller, he will pull in the sixth position, and the next puller will be the test puller.

9b. All decisions on re-pulls must be made before the vehicle leaves the track. If the track official is not notified of the competitor's intent to re-pull in his original pull position, then he will automatically be dropped to sixth position.

10. Each contestant may spot the sled for his first hook in each class. Contestant must notify a track official before the sled is back to the starting line. Track officials have final decision on all matters.

11. All contestants must pull in position drawn and be hooked to the sled within three minutes of officials signal or will be disqualified. Track judges must be notified of any delay. Then, contestant will be last puller in the class.

12. All pulls must start with tight hitch. NO JERKING!!!

13. Violation of any rule results in automatic disqualification. Track judges reserve the right to stop and disqualify any vehicle not being operated in a safe manner.

14. Any driver arguing with a track official is subject to immediate disqualification. All decisions of the track official will be final at each pull. Any protest will be settled at the next club meeting.

15. Only one registered driver per vehicle per class.

16. No pre-registration. Vehicle must be on grounds to be registered.

17. No other entries will be taken after the class has started, except on judges approval due to traffic delay.

18. Weighing procedures: Official weight of competitors vehicle shall be defined as being the weight of the vehicle which must include the driver, and be ready to compete. No adding weight without being reweighed. Weigh out to be at the discretion of the track judge. No hitching device or part of pulling vehicle may interfere with sled while pulling or being hooked or unhooked.

19. All contestants must wear seat belt, (if factory equipped). Shirt and shoes must be worn. Fire suit for national rules.

20. No riders in or on any vehicle while in the pit area or track to include tow vehicle. When the pulling vehicle's motor is running, the driver must be in the driver's seat, except when hooked to the sled.

21. Safety inspections of all vehicles per class rules.

22. All pulling vehicles (except stock) must be equipped with a minimum of one 2-1/2 pound dry chemical or minimum 2 pound halon type fire extinguisher, fully charge in working condition and convenient to the driver.

23. All pulling vehicles must be able to drive on the track and hook up to the sled on the starting line. They must be able to back up to unhook and drive off the track under their own power unless breakage occurs at the event or the vehicle will be disqualified.

24. All engine driven fans must be shrouded with a factory-installed shroud or made of 1/16-inch steel.

25. No pressurized fuel allowed unless UL approved pressure tanks. No oxygen or nitrous oxide. No secondary fuel systems of any kind. Commercially available fuels only unless stated in class rules.

26. Any conduct reflecting poorly on the reputation and integrity of the corporation will cause suspension of puller and vehicle for one year and a day.

27. The board of directors reserves the right to make final decisions concerning the legality and safety of any entry.

28. Rainout: A: During pull, any class not completed will be treated as a rainout. If class must be cancelled after 2/3 of the entries have pulled, purse for the class must be paid. B: Pulling sessions can be called complete if 1/2 of advertised classes are completed. We reserve the right to reschedule.

29. No rules will be changed through the course of the year except for safety reasons.

30. No tinted or smoked glass.

OPEN TRACTOR RULES

1. All pullers must wear helmets in all open tractor classes.

2. All stock and modified stock tractors wishing to pull the open class without a governor, must have side shields, wheelie bars, kill switches, and clutch house blankets.

3. Modified, super stock, and pro stock tractors in the open class will follow national standards.

4. Three tractors constitute a class.

NON TURBO MODIFIED STOCK TRACTOR RULES

1. Weight classes are 6000, 6500, and 7500 pounds.

2. All weights must be securely fastened to tractor. No weights permitted on seat or deck, any weights or external parts lost while hooked to sled will be cause for disqualification of the pull.

3. All tractors must be equipped with both rear brakes working.

4. Modified stock classes are open to naturally aspirated engine only. Tractors must have rubber tires, no dual wheels, studs, or chains with all power being transmitted through rear wheels. Cut tires are permitted. All factory wheels must be in place.

5. No R.P.M. limit.

6. Tractor motor, Transmission and rear end must conform to each other and must be in the stock location. Block and cylinder head must be O.E.M for make and model of tractor.

7. Clutch housing, transmission case, rear end housing, and axle housing must be O.E.M for make and model of tractor.

8. Minimum drawbar length is 18 inches from the center of rear axle to point of hook up. Drawbar must be stationary in all directions. Maximum height is 20 inches from top of hitching device parallel to the ground. Any vertical clevis will be measured to center of loop. No bracing above center of rear axle.

9. Drawbar must be equipped with steel hitching device with thickness no less than 1-inch square or 1-1/8 inch round stock and no more than 1-1/2 inch square or round stock. A 3-inch wide by 3-1/2 inch long hole is required or 3 inch round. A cross-sectional thickness of 1 square inch minimum must be maintained at any given point of hitch loop.

10. Tire size will be 24.5 inches maximum.

11. Diesel can use any fuel system. Gasoline powered tractors must use only one updraft carburetor. Tractors must use fuel that engine was designed for. No alcohol fuel allowed. Electric fuel pumps are permitted. Engine must use O.E.M manifolds. No fuel injection of any type, except

for diesel engines. Carburetor flange will be no more than 1 inch from stock length. No water injection. No overhead cams. All propane tractors should have only one regulator.

12. If any tractor has any changes from factory, it must have all safety equipment, (I.E. blankets, side shields from top of block extend 2 inches below center throw or crankshaft, must be 1/8 inch steel or aluminum). Must have fenders, kill switch and return spring on throttle plate.

13. Maximum length from center of rear wheel to forward most portion of tractor is 13 feet. Maximum wheelbase is not to exceed 114 inches.

14. Officials may order driver/owner to remove shields for inspection. The driver/owner will be present at inspection. A closed inspection will be honored.

15. Power shift and clutch update are okay, if no modifications are made to chassis. Any tractor in question of being legal will be ruled on by the rules committee and board of directors.

16. Full face helmets must be worn. Fire suits are required. Leather shoes must be worn.

17. Cubic inch limit for all makes and models is 680 cubic inches.

18. A protest rule will be in place for these classes. A fee (tear down money) of $500.00 cash must be posted by the protestor(s) at the event. The burden of proof of the legality of the tractor in question is placed on the vehicle's owner.

19. Wheelie bar specifications:

-Maximum height from ground 10 inches.
-Maximum length 32 inches from center of axle to back of wheelie bar.
-5 inch square plate on bottom of wheelie bar.
-Must not be attached to the hitching devices.
-A random check can be made where the tractor is jacked up using the wheelie bar. The wheelie bar must hold the weight of the class the tractor is pulling.

Special Exceptions: Allis-Chalmers D19 tractors may move the intake flange 2" towards the center.

FIELD STOCK RULES

1. Weight classes are 5000, 6000, 8000, 10,000, 12, 000, and 14,000 lbs.

2. Contest open to farm tractors with rubber tires. No cut or altered tires, tire studs or chains permitted. Four-wheel drive tractors are permitted if front wheels are disengaged. No dual wheels. All factory wheels must be in place.

3. All weights must be secured to tractor. No weight may extend more than 24 inches beyond the forward most point of hood or front tires. No weights permitted on seat or deck. Any weights or external parts lost while hooked to sled will be cause for disqualification of the pull. No weights to extend past rear of tire. No weights permitted within 6" of centerline of hitching device.

4. Minimum drawbar length is 18 inches from the center of rear axle to point of hook up. Drawbar must be stationary in all directions. Maximum height is 20 inches from top of hitching device parallel to the ground. Any vertical clevis will be measured to center of loop.

5. Drawbar must be equipped with steel hitching device with thickness no less than 1 inch square or 1-1/8 inch round stock and no more than 1-1/2 inches thick square or round stock. A minimum 3 inches and maximum 3-1/2 inch diameter hole is required. A cross-sectional thickness of 1 square inch minimum must be maintained at any given point of hitch loop. No bracing above center of rear axle, except for complete factory set up. If above center, it must be cradled.

6. A 2500 R.P.M. limit on all tractors.

7. Any tractor running under an R.P.M. limit must have working governor in operation.

8. Pace tractor will be used for the 5000, 6000, 8000, and the 10,000 pound field stock classes.

8a. 3 mph for any class 8000 pounds and under and 5 mph for the 10,000 pound field stock class. Pace tractor driver will not pass the center of front wheel of pulling tractor. If the driver of the pulling tractor passes the driver of the pace tractor, he/she will be disqualified. The pace tractor will start the pull even with the center of the front wheel of the pulling tractor.

8b. No pace tractor for the 12,000 and 14,000 pound field stock classes. Fenders are required.

9. Wheelie bars are recommended but not mandatory.

10. Tire size limit for 5000, 6000, and 8000 pound classes is 18.4, limit for 10,000 and 12,000 pound classes is 20.8, limit for 14,000 pound class and up is 24.5 maximum.

11. 5000, 6000, and 8000 pound classes will have no add on turbos unless factory equipped. 10,000 pound class and up will be permitted, but only with a 3 inch intake.

12. Tractor motor and chassis must conform with each other and must be O.E.M.

13. All tractors must be equipped with both rear brakes working. Use of torque converters, automatic shifts, etc. are permitted.

14. No foot cross over and no hand control of foot brakes permitted.

15. Tractor must be no more than 1000 pounds below weight class entered.
