Southwest Missouri State University

Philanthropy

Kappa Alpha Order has been a longtime supporter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association nationally.  Every year fund-raising events are sponsored by KA to raise money for the nations #1 philanthropic organization.

Kappa Alpha Order at Southwest Missouri State University has recently increased their commitment to MDA, by striving to spend more time and effort raising money.  The Gamma Beta chapter has at least one fund-raising event each semester, as well as taking part in other events like MDA's national telethon held on Labor Day weekend which we will be appearing on once again this year.

Like Kappa Alpha's former Executive Director, Richard A. Barnes, who has served as MDA's Vice-President, members of KA have been a part of the Muscular Dystrophy Association volunteer task-force for over twenty years.

One of the events that the Gamma Beta chapter hosts for MDA is our annual Washer Tournament.  We plan to host one this Fall, so brush up on your skills and toss some washers for MDA.

This semester, we hosted one of our biggest Philanthropy events ever. On November 19, we held a Lock-up for MDA. It was a great success. We raised over $11,000 for MDA. The entire chapter came out to make the day even better. Everyone who participated had a great time. As you can see in the picture, even some of the brothers participated in raising money. They were put "Behind Bars for Good."
