Shark gives shock
to resort tailors
Report by Fiction Singh

Pattaya City - A giant shark claimed its first viction in this resort city
recently, reports our roving reporter Fiction Singh.
"It was a huge monster," claimed an Indian shopowner who laid eyes
on the shark, "we thought we would never survive."
The shark has caused a general panic among businessmen who are
already caught up in a financial quagmire of the past couple of years.
"We'll have to take our business to our customers overseas," lamented
a long-time tailor as he called the airlines for a ticket to Frankfurt.

First victim - Bangladeshi tailor on his way to a client

"What with the already low visitor turnout to the resort, the shark is adding
salt to our wounds," he told Fiction Singh. "Government authorities, especially
the tourism and financial officials, have repeated convinced us into believing
that the waters are safe this year..On the contrary, this shark is a living proof
that the resort's woes are far from over," another tailor interjected.
The offensive shark has claimed its first victim in a tailor walking the alleys
of Pattaya Sai 2. The 43-year old man, a Bangladeshi immigrant, was on his
way to deliver two jackets and matching trousers to a Swede residing in a hotel
across his tailor shop.
Witnesses claim the shark laid in wait for the poor man. "There wasn't the
slightest chance he could have escaped," one of the witness reported.
The Bangladeshi arrived in Pattaya five years ago working in the first two
years as a sales assistant for a tailor shop before deciding to take the reins
of business into his own hands hoping to scoop a bagful of gold.
A mourning will be held by Pattaya city officials when remains, if any, of the
immigrant is found.
Bussinessmen have sent out warnings to immigrants out to make a quick
buck for themselves, that Pattaya is now over congested. Cases like the recent
shark attack will continue to occur, if shopowners do not take calculated steps
when doing business.
Following the warning, Pattaya tailors are now on their toes. "The good old
days have long passed. We were barely surviving on a day-to-day basis.
The working conditions are 100 times more tougher," a Sikh tailor explained.
In a last desperate bid to avoid the shark, tailors have been seen scrambling
for airline tickets to the closest destination in Europe. With such a stampede
out of the city, it is hoped that the shark will turn its head towards the sea in
search of better feeding grounds.
As initial reports of the shark were being relayed to Phuket, some tailors
on this island have pulled down their shutters and moved to the capital.
One tailor summed up the situation, "We are not going to take this lying down.
We have called up our regular customers in Europe and made appointments with
them. Even with a shark in our midst, we rather remain poor but alive than dead
in the shark's belly."
