Adventures in Arcadayn
Priests of the Celestian Church.
Prerequisites for all orders: IQ 10+, Astronomy, Performance/Ritual, Theology (with specialization), Teaching. Administration and Leadership are PRs for Rank 2+ (skill 15+ for Rank 3+). Krithian and Visalan clerics are expected to be Literate. No subterranean race has ever been known to become a Celestian Cleric.
Patron cost is base 25 (Krith), 20 (Visala) or 10 (elsewhere). Patron and Duty frequency and Power Investiture level are linked to Rank:
Rank | Title | P.I. | Patron | Duty* |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 [5] | Cleric | 1 [10] | 6- [13/10/5] | 12- [-5] |
2 [10] | Master | 2 [20] | 9- [25/20/10] | 15- [-5] |
3 [15] | Constellation | 3 [30] | 12- [50/40/20] | 15- [-10] |
4 [20] | Paragon | 4 [40] | 15- [75/60/30] | 15- [-10] |
Duty is usually nonhazardous; add -5 if it is.
In addition, all clerics have Legal Immunity (strict canon law) [5] and Discipline of Faith (Ritualism) [-5]. There are four holy days (solstices and equinoxes) [4].
Spheres of influence: Knowledge, Light & Darkness, Protection & Warning. Because all five gods are allied powers, spells allowed to Major Orders may be learned by other orders, but may only be cast in full ceremonial form (see pp. R104, M14).
Clerical Spells: All new spells from pp. R109-112 may be learned. Consecrate is always the first spell learned; most clerics will create a Sacred Vessel (pp. R105-106) soon after their investment. Desecrate may only be used against "evil" objects or places. Summon Allied Entity is rare, and requires high Rank.
The One Celestian Minor Order: Spheres: This is the core description given above.
The Five Celestian Major Orders
Crescent Moon (Doshonor): Add Night Vision and Law to PRs.
Crescent Moon clerics are affected by Lunar Influence [5] and must take a Vow of Honesty [-10]. The winter solstice is a High Holy Day [+1]. Some Crescent Moon clerics serve as full-time guards for people or places important to the Church; in these cases, increase Duty to "always" and hazardous [-15], with some assignments qualifying for Extremely Hazardous Duty [extra -5].
Add Illusion & Creation to spheres of influence. This order may also learn the spell Vigil (p. G75) with no prerequisites except Investiture.
A small sub-sect of the Crescent Moon Order is devoted to hunting weres and stopping their depredations. For these, add Blessed (sense shapechanger on IQ roll) [5] and Intolerance: Weres [-5]. Many Celestians regard Were-Hunters as dangerous heretics.
Pole Star (Phaor): Add Navigation to PRs.
Pole Star clerics gain Absolute Direction [5] and Absolute Timing [5]. Phaor has no High Holy Days.
Add Movement (but not Gate spells) to spheres of influence.
Golden Eye (Rashira): Add Diplomacy and Meteorology to PRs. Rashira's clerics must have Average or better attractiveness.
Golden Eye clerics are Blessed (Divination at IQ, usually Aeromancy) [10]. They must take a vow of Pacifism ("self-defense only") [-15], but may opt for full pacifism [-30]. The vernal equinox is a High Holy Day [+1].
Add Communication & Empathy to spheres of influence.
Dawn-bloom (Tovanira): Add Diagnosis and Physician to PRs.
Add Resistant to Disease [5] (Immunity [+5] is optional). Dawn-bloom clerics must take two Vows: Never refuse a request for healing by a Celestian worshiper [-15] (they often extend this vow to outsiders as missionary efforts) and Use no edged weapons [-10] (knives, et al., may be used in surgery, but not combat). The autumnal equinox is a High Holy Day [+1].
Add Food and Healing to spheres of influence. Dawn-bloom clerics must learn Final Rest (p. R111) immediately after investiture. They may learn Exorcism and Turn Zombie with no prerequisite except Investiture.
Sun Disc (Uralor): No new PRs.
Sun Disc priests gain DR 4 vs. fire and heat [4] and Polarized Eyes [5]. They are Pyromaniacs [-5]. The summer solstice is a High Holy Day [+1]; the winter solstice is a day of weakness [-1].
Add Fire to spheres of influence.
