Arcadayn Journal, Session #2
Game Date: 18 Greening, 994 KC
Play Date: 1/16/99
In the morning, Ulfgar asked Darra more questions. She described the encounter with the two dead men. She said that she had fought zombies before, near her home in Riversmidst, but would give no details of that earlier experience. She believes she's in danger from these two.
With Fazia as escort, she went back to the scene of the attack. They found no new clues, but noticed that town guardsmen were now more visible in the neighborhood. They returned to the inn where Darra had been staying.
Darra had overheard a company of adventurers at the inn the day before; their conversation had mentioned a run-in with undead somewhere to the south. Darra asked the innkeeper about these adventurers, and found out they had a meeting that evening. As their leader, a Celestian cleric, returned, Darra intercepted him to state that she had overheard their talk, and that she was attacked by undead the day before. They traded stories.
The priest, Corben, was the leader of a company of ten men from various parts of the Yangar River valley. They frequently received missions from Corben's church and from the ducal court, most of them involving escort or courier duty. When returning from a mission to a southern town, they were ambushed by undead just north of Theronton. They fought them off, but many members of the company were wounded, and one member, Bran, has not been quite right in the head since. Darra revealed that she was hunting someone who had done a great wrong, and that the undead might be connected.
In order to get better acquainted with Corben's company, Darra and Fazia accompanied them to the circus: "Magister Motho's Theater of Wonder."
[Our third player, Anne Cross, is playing Laylah, a young Daleman-descended woman who is working as an acrobat and dancer in Magister Motho's circus.]
Between acts, Laylah noticed a silver-skinned man [Pelmark] sitting in the stands. He piqued her curiosity, so when he left the tent a few acts early, she followed and accosted him. As he was explaining that his god had "marked" him, Laylah had a fit and blacked out. She came to, and was told that she had spoken (in Krithian, a language she doesn't know): "follow the two young mares to the tomb with the broken obelisk." Laylah had had blackouts before, but never knew she spoke during them. Pelmark suggested that she see a friend of his who might be able to tell her more about these strange fits.
Darra and Fazia had seen Pelmark, and also followed him out. They found him as Laylah took her leave. They tried to follow her, but a very large man blocked their way. [This was Kazu, a Sakani strong-man, and a friend to Laylah.] He and Darra had a shouting match (trading insults in his language), then the the two women returned to see the end of the show. After the show, the company returned to the inn.
Laylah spoke to her supervisor, Thaddeus, who spoke with Pelmark as soon as his duties allowed. They agreed to let Laylah meet with some of the priest's colleagues.
