23 Greening: In the morning, Pelmark arrived at the circus with a scribe, and the bargain to cancel Laylah's indenture was finalized. She asked Motho about the circus's itinerary for the next few months, in case she would get the opportunity to visit them later. She and Pelmark then took their leave of Mistress Theolodia, who gave Laylah a few simple prayers and proverbs on which to meditate. Theolodia told her that Pelmark could give her some basic instruction if she desires it. Because Laylah wished to have a symbol of the goddess, Theolodia surprised her by giving her a simple bronze pendant with the Golden Eye icon, which had been the old woman's first amulet when she began her instruction.

Pelmark and Laylah joined Corben, who introduced her to his company. (Her empathy immediately made her want to help Bran, the one who had been edgy since the company was attacked by undead.) The expedition finished its preparations and set out.

On the three-day journey to Theronton (23-25 Greening), Darra and Laylah were instructed in handling the horses by Arnhem. In addition, the priests and Darra helped Laylah learn some basic Krithian, so that she could speak with the rest of the company.

24 Greening (new moon): The party passed a northward-bound slave coffle. This sight disturbed Laylah, who had been a slave briefly as a child.

Later that day, the party overtook two bronze dwarves traveling on foot. Darra showed open curiosity about them, but they declined to speak much to her. Over the remainder of the journey, the party and the dwarves passed each other a couple more times--the dwarves, though slow, apparently were making a forced march to their unknown destination.

25 Greening: The party crossed the Yangar River at the Theronton bridge shortly before dusk, entered the town, and took rooms at "The Golden Chariot." Fazia left to spend the night at her family's farm just outside town, but would return for a planning session over breakfast.

During dinner at the inn, Laylah saw a bearded man watching the company. When he left, she told Darra, who followed. Gorm was sent to follow her in case of trouble. Darra trailed the man to the bridge, but was distracted by the passing of the two dwarves, and lost sight of her quarry. She returned to the inn, convinced that the man was connected to the undead.

That night, Laylah had another dream: a single scene, of sunrise over a distinctive mountain peak, and the silhouette of a broken pillar of rock.

26 Greening: Laylah drew the mountain peak from her dream to show the company. Fazia thought she recognized it as a peak in the Ongrican Mountains due east of Theronton. The company spent the day gathering information:

They shared their findings over dinner that evening, and made plans to investigate the ruins in the hills to the east.
