Adventures in Arcadayn
Elemental Faiths
By Tim Emrick

Like worshipers of the druidic gods, Elementalists attempt to understand and control nature for the good of their communities. However, followers of this religion worship one or more of the gods of the four elements, seeking to earn the gods' favor. Their priests learn the secrets of elemental magic.

Ingor Stormbringer is the god of the sky, storms and strength. He is usually depicted as a red-bearded, muscle-bound giant who is carrying his symbol, the lightning bolt. He makes few demands of his worshipers beyond regular praise and offerings. His followers try to emulate his indomitability, and despise all forms of weakness. His Holy Day is Midwinter's Day (15 Coldblight).

Kemira is the goddess of the earth (Kemil), eldest of the gods and mother or grandmother to all other deities. She guards underground spaces and treasures, gives birth to monsters and burrowing creatures, and creates earthquakes, floods, volcanoes and other natural disasters. Although she is usually indifferent to mortals, her followers are often fanatics who insist that all people worship the All-Mother. She is usually depicted as a colossal giantess. Her symbol is the earth rune (a quartered circle). Her Holy Day is Midsummer's Day (15 Greening).

Morovira is the Sea-Mother, goddess of all bodies of water and the animals who dwell in them. She is a powerful and capricious goddess, whom sailors petition for fair weather, safe voyages and bountiful catches. She is depicted as a mermaid bearing her symbol, the trident. Her Holy Week is Morovira's Feast (9-14 Highsuntide).

Uralor, the Sun-God, is also god of fire. He embodies light and fire in all their forms--the violence of the elements, the spark of civilization, the wisdom of illumination, the hunter and destroyer of evil. He is depicted as a tall, powerful man enveloped in flames. His symbols are the sun disc (Uralos), spears, and any implement which allows man to transport fire (torch, lamp, brazier, etc.). His Holy Day is the Summer Solstice, while the Winter Solstice is a day of weakness. [He is also worshiped by the Celestian Church.]

Each god has a separate cult, with no "generalist" clerics. The clerics of opposed elements are antagonistic towards each other, but often work with non-opposed elementalist priests. The Elemental faiths are common in magiocratic Riversmidst as well as in Haldinibar (especially Ingor and Morovira) and parts of Visala.
