Julie Day

STATUS: Interviewer.

WRESTLING: She didn't. She interviewed wrestlers. She used the simple three-question technique that has earned Mike Wallace so many Emmys. The three questions, time after time, were: "Tell me about your past." "That's a very compelling story." "Whoops, looks like I better get out of here. Back to you, David." Actually, now that I write that out, I see that none of those are technically questions. Even better!

CHARACTER: If she was supposed to be playing a jaded telejournalist who is "mailing it in" big-time, she did a hell of a job. Her skits usually ended with the wrestlers scaring her off, but she looked about as scared as the Legion of Doom was of Aquaman.

LOOKS: Pretty cute, actually. Of course, unlike the wrestlers, she is wearing normal person clothes, so we don't get to gawk as much.

COMMENTS: I must admit that the writing on Julie's sketches was about the stalest and corniest thing ever. But, she didn't help it at all with her George W. Bush-like "deer in the headlights, reading straight off the teleprompter" delivery and bad acting. Plus, if she was really able to do more than read cue cards, don't you think she would be allowed to do it? I mean, the big feds have people who can call an entire 30-minute match improv. Why should WOW settle for someone who can't improv a 30-second interview? If Julie returns, I hope she has worked on her skills, and also beaten some sense into the writers.

UPDATES:

2/4/01 (PPV):
- I didn't see any mention of Julie in the PPV recaps I read. If that is accurate, she is probably gone.

2/11/01 (show #19):
- Julie appeared in this episode, but it was taped prior to the PPV so it might not mean she is still with WOW. Wish I had seen it, though. Supposedly the interview (with Jane Blond) was not as soul-scarring as her past ones.
