Richard Warren, Ph.D.

Dr. Richard Warren comes to us from England.
He is a botanist who has worked with orchids for 25 years.
Although an expert in seed raising and flasking,
he has never lost sight of the importance of natural forests
and the conservation of such habitats.
He founded the Equatorial Plant Company in 1977;
dedicated to raising orchids from seed,
and specializing in South American, African,
and Papua New Guinean species.

With his partner, David Miller, he has helped to maintain
three significant areas of original biodiverse rain forest
in the coastal mountain range of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil.
(This is now a UK registered charity.)
Together, they run orchid study tours which support their work;
both in documenting the orchid flora of the Organ Mountains,
and in the publication of the critically acclaimed
"Orchids of the High Mountain Atlantic Rain Forest in Southeastern Brazil."
Dick also produces an Orchid newsletter; now in its seventeenth year.

Working in cooperation with the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh,
Dick has managed to introduce into cultivation many seed-raised New Guinean species
first collected by Paddy Woods in his trips to PNG in the 1960's and 70's.
He visited New Guinea in 1991 with the late Andree Miller.
