All about me

Several years ago, in the mid-1970's, a time of optimism and general euphoria about humanity and its achievements, a child was born in Calgary, Alberta. Calgary was then a relatively quiet, Prairie city of about a half-million people. The child was a noisy male of about 8 lbs. Both the city and the child were in for some amazing growth.
Today, Calgary's population has grown by nearly 100% and is edging towards 1,000,000! Today, that child (named Michael, and later baptised "glicko" by a strange first-year dorm ceremony involving beer and animé) has grown by over 2000% and is closing in on 165 lbs!
But that's where the similarities end. Calgary's growth was fueled by petroleum, low taxes, and good business climate. Michael doesn't like the taste of oil and found it hard to gain nutrients directly from low taxes and a good business climate.
In 1983, Michael left the Prairies, destined for Canada's spectacular and mountainous West Coast. He grew up in the vibrant port city of Vancouver. There he progressed through British Columbia's school system until 1993, when he wound up a wide-eyed, first-year engineering student at the University of British Columbia (and gained a nickname, see above). He studied (sometimes) and worked real hard (not bloody hard enough, if ye ask me...), and, finally was rewarded with a degree in civil engineering (UBC wanted him out).
Michael has traveled. After a couple of madcap Fraternal road trips down the I-5 to California, Michael decided to go on the mother of all (rail)road trips...the great urotrip of 1999!
Michael has since returned to the Prairies, and again resides in Calgary. He is employed as a draftsman/engineer-in-training by Kellam Berg Engineering and Surveys.
