"The Heart of the New West"

Built at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers, Calgary's sprawl is home to roughly 1 million people (850,000 within the city limits). The quintessential oil town, Calgary is Canada's petroleum capital. It is also Canada's third-largest city and fifth-largest metropolitan region. A North American transportation hub, the City perches at the junction of the Trans-Canada Highway and the CanAmMex superhighway. The present boom has seen 3500 people per month move to Calgary. Like a tree, the City seems to add another ring of neighbourhoods every year.

May 2000 - Except for the occasional flurry, winter has finally bid adieu for another few months (although any weather is possible on the Prairies!).

Some helpful definitions

Trail - in most places, a "trail" is a path. In Calgary, when "Trail" is used in a street name (e.g. Crowchild Trail) it means major street, expressway, or freeway.
C-Train - the city's light rapid transit line... also known as the "LRT" and the "Train."
Stampede - The big celebration of all things western. The Stampede is the largest rodeo in the world. Takes place during the 2nd week in July.
CP Line - The Canadian Pacific Railway (Calgary's original raison d'être) which cuts right through the centre of the city.
