John Faa: lord of the western gyptians, who leads an expedition to Bolvangar to rescue the children captured by the Gobblers. His daemon is a crow.

Father Gomez: an agent of the Consistorial Court of Discipline, Father Gomez has been schooled in the highly secret doctrine called Pre-emptive penance, which allows him the absolution for the sin of murder.  He is sent out by the Court to find and kill Lyra.  His daemon is a green-backed beetle.

Stanislaus Grumman: a renowned explorer immersed in investigating Dust.  He is rumored to be a shaman whose tribal Tartar name is Jopari the English translation of which is John Parry. It is his duty to find the bearer of the Subtle Knife and inform him of his critical role in the fate of the universe.

Dr. Marin Lanselius: the witch consul at Trollesund. He informs Farder Coram of Lyra's destiny that must be fulfilled in another world without her knowledge of it.

Sir Charles Latrom: a deceiving man who has seen Lyra work the alethiometer and realizes its value. Known as Lord Boreal in Lyra's world, he has ties with Mrs. Coulter, Lyra's mother.

Master of Jordan: The ranking scholar of Jordan College, who feels responsible for raising and protecting Lyra, and who has learned something of her fate from an alethiometer.  His daemon is a raven.

Tony Makarios: A simple slum child who is abducted by the Gobblers. He is later able to tell Lyra what the Gobblers do to children.

Dr. Mary Malone: a member of the Dark Matter Research Unit, who has discovered the existence of shadows. Through her communication with the shadows, she realizes that it is her destiny to "play the serpent".

Metatron: a mighty Angel appointed by the Authority as regent of the Kindom of Heaven.

No-Name: a filthy, harpy-like creature that guards the passage between the World of the Dead and World of the Living. Given power by the the Authority to see the worst in everyone, No-name and her compatriots plague the souls in the World of the Dead.
